Description
A sprawling science fantasy comedic adventure romance, with goblins and cannons! Johnathan Miller has harbored a secret flame for his childhood friend Merrily Hunter for years, and as Midsummer’s Eve approaches he’s ready to make his move. But when a cranky, sharp-tongued professor of Applied History rides into town looking for a lost book, Johnathan and Merrily quickly find themselves swept up in an adventure that will take them to the very edges of history, language, and probability. They join a host of colorful men, women, goblins, fey, snarfs, horses, and strange outsiders, all set in a world grappling with the consequences of scientific advance, political unrest, and religious debate.

Our adventure begins at the beginning, and if you’re looking for the beginning then you should begin here. We meet Johnathan Miller and Merrily Hunter, two bright young people in the small frontier village of Hog Hurst. Johnathan has big ambitions, but today only one of them matters—will he convince Merrily to come with him to the Midsummer’s Ball in five days? Johnathan's plans are rudely interrupted by the arrival of a mysterious stranger in search of a most unusual prize.
Cyrus reveals the object of his quest, but immediately discovers that said object has gone missing. He meets the town librarian, and suspicions arise. Merrily makes a good deal, and Johnathan gets the girl, sort of. We meet a man who has something wrong with him.
Strangers meet on the road as Cyrus, Johnathan, and Merrily set off in search of the missing post-rider. Johnathan acquires a new weapon. Cyrus encounters unexpected power, while Merrily puts her skills to good use. Three projectiles pass in the night.
We meet a goblin who is Not From Around Here. We also meet a goblin who is from around here. Cyrus wishes he were a chicken. Johnathan puts the comedy back in concussion. In Uellodon, Hobb the Wise meets old friends and old enemies. He scores some philosophical points against The Kettle, but has to flee the battlefield--only to be trapped in a hunting story. The King makes a speech, and Hobb makes a list of who is naughty and who is nice.

In Episode 11 of The Bright Path Podcast, King Leeland meets an old friend, and then sends him away. Hobb waves his hands and puts on a show--twice.
In the frontier forest, King Simon tries to keep his new subjects from eating each other. He finds that culinary advice and fragrant incense only go so far. Simon and The Gizzard discover that they have some unexpected assets, and Simon introduces his henchman to the fine distinction between trade and murder. In Hog Hurst, Alice is confronted once again by her strange visitors, and decides on a new course of action. Episode 12 of the podcast covers Chapters 15 and 16 of The Bright Path.
Cyrus bids a fond farewell to Sheria. Johnathan and Merrily go to meet some demons, but find an entirely different mystery. Daven and Devi make a bad deal to get their new friends out of trouble, and both of them suffer the consequences. Episode 13 covers Chapter 17 of The Bright Path.
Sir Richard Enderly makes preparations for his exile to fantasy, beginning with a shopping trip for men. There is a food riot, and an unexpected response. Sir Richard writes a poem.
