If you have to ask what it symbolizes… There are symbols everywhere. Ever wonder what the eye on a dollar bill means or what dumb meaning the word "God" on that same dollar? A symbol is a mark, sign or word that indicates, signifies, or is understood as representing an idea, object, or relationship. Symbols allow people to go beyond what is known or seen by creating linkages between otherwise very different concepts and experiences. All communication (and data processing) is achieved through the use of symbols. Symbols take the form of words, sounds, gestures, ideas or visual images and are used to convey other ideas and beliefs. For example, a red octagon may be a symbol for "STOP". On a map, a blue line might represent a river. Numerals are symbols for numbers. Alphabetic letters may be symbols for sounds. Personal names are symbols representing individuals. A red rose may symbolize love and compassion. The variable 'x', in a mathematical equation, may symbolize the position of a particle in space. Hosted by Craig Hutchins and Jason Schutt. What is Karma? You know that time when you get gut-punched by an old woman. Why did she do that? Maybe it was because of the time you took that box of Thin Mints from that little Girl Scout when the sales table was left unattended? It was. That is the Universe saying your an Asshole and you deserve to be set straight. That is Karma. KARMA - "means action, work or deed; it also refers to the spiritual principle of cause and effect where intent and actions of an individual influence the future of that individual. Good intent and good deeds contribute to good karma and happier rebirths, while bad intent and bad deeds contribute to bad karma and bad rebirths." -Wikipedia Some Holes Should Be Explored ---- Please subscribe and share this with friends it only costs the low low price of investing some time to listen to this podcast. WE ARE BACK. THIS TIME YOU GET A TWOFER. WE TOOKA SHORT BREAK OVER THE THANKSGIVING TIME. NOW IT IS BACK TO WORK. HERE YOU GO… Join Jason and Craig as they discuss the ins and outs of the MADAGASCAR MAN EATING TREE & BENNINGTON TRIANGLE. Let them show you how it can work for you for the low low price of investing some time to listen to this podcast. MADAGASCAR MAN EATING TREE The earliest well-known report of a man-eating tree originated as a literary fabrication written by Edmund Spencer for the New York World. Spencer's article first appeared in the daily edition of the New York World on 26 April 1874 and appeared again in the weekly edition of the newspaper two days later. In the article, a letter was published by a purported German explorer named "Karl Leche" who provided a report of encountering a sacrifice performed by the "Mkodo tribe" of Madagascar. BENNINGTON TRIANGLE Some suspect a serial killer while others point a finger at the paranormal, but nobody has been able to fully explain the mysterious disappearances from Vermont's Bennington Triangle. Evolution is a topic that people have debated over time. Did Darwin say it was fake on his death bed? What role does religion play in this debate? Evolution is a change in the heritable characteristics of biological populations over successive generations. These characteristics are the expressions of genes that are passed on from parent to offspring during reproduction. Different characteristics tend to exist within any given population as a result of mutation, genetic recombination and other sources of genetic variation. Evolution occurs when evolutionary processes such as natural selection (including sexual selection) and genetic drift act on this variation, resulting in certain characteristics becoming more common or rare within a population. It is this process of evolution that has given rise to biodiversity at every level of biological organization, including the levels of species, individual organisms, and molecules. Ruining the history of Thanksgiving. Some pinpoint 1637 as the true origin of Thanksgiving, owing to the fact Massachusetts colony governor John Winthrop declared a day of thanksgiving to celebrate colonial soldiers who had just slaughtered 700 Pequot men, women, and children in what is now Mystic, Connecticut. Craig and Jason are doing their first SERIAL KILLER episode. This one has a paranormal part to the story so it is a good transition from our normal aliens, ghosts, and self-help episodes. Lavinia Fisher (1793 – February 18, 1820) is reported by some legends to have been the first female serial killer in the United States of America. Her origins are unknown; however, Fisher resided in the United States for much of her life. She was married to John Fisher, and both were convicted of highway robbery—a capital offense at the time—not murder. Historians have begun to question the veracity of the traditional legend and some assert that Lavinia Fisher never killed anyone. Hosted by Craig Hutchins and Jason Schutt. With so much information about spooky stuff going on with this piece of property, we had to explore all of the crazy cattle mutilations, men in black, witches, strange creatures, and Mormons. Well, maybe not Mormons. We just assumed they were because of Utah. We know. Not everyone in Utah is Mormon. Skinwalker Ranch, also known as Sherman Ranch, is a property located on approximately 512 acres (2.072 km²) southeast of Ballard, Utah that is reputed to be the site of paranormal and UFO-related activities. We live in a world where we know symbols that we see everyday. But do you know the meaning of the symbols. As we know, the swastika started as a symbol of peace and devil horns was used to ward off evil. We explore what some symbols mean. Symbols: Wikipedia describes them as: Semiotics is the study of signs, symbols, and signification as communicative behavior. Semiotics studies focus on the relationship of the signifier and the signified, also taking into account interpretation of visual cues, body language, sound, and other contextual clues. Semiotics is linked with both linguistics and psychology. Semioticians thus not only study what a symbol implies, but also how it got its meaning and how it functions to make meaning in society. Symbols allow the human brain continuously to create meaning using sensory input and decode symbols through both denotation and connotation. Hosted by Craig Hutchins and Jason Schutt. Some metal is not like the others. Craig and Jason talk about one of their favorite genres of music. Metal has more sub-genres than Dragon Ball cartoons. Wikipedia defines metal as "Heavy metal is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom. With roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock, and acid rock, the bands that created heavy metal developed a thick, massive sound, characterized by highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness. The genre's lyrics and performance styles are sometimes associated with aggression and machismo." I wrote on Wikipedia: "An urban legend, urban myth, urban tale, or contemporary legend is a form of modern folklore. It usually consists of fictional stories, often presented as true, with macabre or humorous elements, rooted in local popular culture." Well I didn't write it, but I could have if I got there first. The term "urban legend," as used by folklorists, has appeared in print since at least 1968. Jan Harold Brunvand introduced the term to the general public in a series of popular books published beginning in 1981. Brunvand published his collection of legends, The Vanishing Hitchhiker: American Urban Legends & Their Meanings to make two points: first, that legends and folklore do not occur exclusively in so-called primitive or traditional societies, and second, that one could learn much about urban and modern culture by studying such tales. ---- Please subscribe and share this with friends it only costs the low low price of investing some time to listen to this podcast. The Culture of Fear is the concept to manipulate people into achieving a goal by scaring them with propaganda.
