In this podcast I will be nothing but honest! I held back a lot this year. I was in my own way constantly and it's in hindsight that I realised how much that affected my sales.

In this episode, Jess chats to reseller Tamz Scott, @opshopweirdness on Instagram, about using Depop as a profitable reselling platform. Let's talk about eBay stores! Should you subscribe to an eBay store or not? The jury is out and so far, it's pretty divided as to whether people want to be selling personally or whether they want to be subscribing to a store. I'm going to break down a little bit of that for you in this episode.
What an episode this was! Grab a notepad and pen for this one because the chat I had with Rache from Girl Gone Retro about Instagram as a selling platform and sourcing vintage that sells is FULL of gold. Rache built her business to what it is today by shifting to an Instagram account and sharing, quite simply, the lifestyle she saw her vintage pieces featured in. She’s now considered a go-to girl in the reseller community for vintage business tips, sourcing advice, killer styling inspiration and a general love and hype-girl vibe for every other reseller she encounters. In this episode, we talked alot about creating a connection with your audience and using conversations and personality as your core selling values. We discussed strategy and how-to methods for processing sales in your DMs without missing anyone or any transactions and inevitably, we dove right into sourcing and dating stunning vintage that sells. I had the pleasure of chatting to Zoe Richmond from The Numbers Hub during a FB Live Q&A in our Aussie Reselling Mummas FB Group. The chat was far too good to hide away in there. I thought I’d repurpose it to help more mummas wrap their head about bookkeeping for their reselling business, so now you’re getting it in your ears as well! Zoe is the Boss Lady and Chief Numbers Nerd at The Numbers Hub. She’s worked in finance for over 10 years and decided to make the jump to work for herself. Her goal is to help as many business owners as she can to understand their numbers and grow their business with confidence and sprinkle a little FUN along the way. We talked about what you can claim, whether you need an ABN to be reselling, when it’s time to register for tax - if you need to pay tax at all - and a bunch of other burning questions that I bet are on your minds as well. 2019 was a huge year in business for me, with it being the year I officially started reselling as my sole income stream and made the most money. It was also the year I made the most mistakes and learned so much about myself as a business owner. I started treating it like a business. I took it seriously. I valued what I did. 2019 taught me alot about selling on eBay as a business and I wanted to share those things with you.
It seems like a pipe dream, yeah? Starting and running a business that you KNOW is going to make you money almost straight away. A business that you don’t need to apply for a business loan to start up. A business that doesn’t require you to flog your idea again and again and annoy your family and friends with. And - let’s face it - a business that you can grow and profit from, at home while the kids are napping or at daycare… that isn’t a pyramid or MLM scheme that requires you to pressure everyone you know into having a “party” and invite all their friends. Reselling is absolutely the cheapest, easiest, ready-made-business model for a mum who just wants to flex her CEO muscles, practice her business-building skills and make money to stay home with her kiddos - no starter kits or consultant packs required - and this episode will tell you why.
Meet me, Jess, your host on The Business of Preloved. I'm giving you my back story and the details about what led to a full-time gig reselling secondhand clothing on eBay Australia.
