Fixing Our Identity On Jesus

Becoming A Disciple Worth Multiplying   In this launch episode of the new CDM Fundamentals series, Paul Watson breaks down what it means to be a disciple worth multiplying. Using the lives of Kings Saul, David, and Solomon, Paul illustrates how fixing your identity on Christ impacts your obedience, decision-making, and long-term fruitfulness in disciple-making. This episode challenges believers to examine where their identity truly lies—and offers a practical, step-by-step method for grounding identity in Christ through scripture, meditation, obedience, and multiplication. 🧭 In This Episode You’ll Learn: What a strategic element is and why "being a disciple worth multiplying" is foundational The difference between strategic and tactical elements in disciple-making How the identity and outcomes of Saul, David, and Solomon contrast dramatically Why misplaced identity leads to compromise, drift, and spiritual failure A practical, reproducible framework for fixing your identity on Christ: 🧠 Daily Scripture reading 💬 Meditation on what it says about God, people, and obedience 🛠️ Specific application in life and relationships 🍇 Observing and evaluating spiritual fruit 🔁 Multiplying obedience through disciple-making communities and DBS groups 🛠️ Practical Takeaways: Read Scripture daily using a plan that works for you Ask three questions: What does this say about God? What does it say about people? How should I obey this in the next 24–48 hours?   Meditate on obedience—past, present, and potential future situations Reflect on your identity: Are you a follower of Christ first—before your roles, professions, or personality? Share and multiply: Celebrate obedience with others and invite them into the process 💡 Quote of the Episode: "We obey because of love for Christ, not fear of hell." 🙏 Support the Mission: CDM is a nonprofit ministry equipping everyday believers to start disciple-making movements. What is one area where you need to take an obedient step this week? --- 📘 Group Discussion Guide Podcast Episode: Becoming a Disciple Worth Multiplying Series: CDM Fundamentals Length: ~35 mins Host: Paul Watson 👥 GROUP FORMAT (45–60 min) 🎧 Listen (before group or during session – optional) 📖 Scripture + Summary ❓ Discussion Questions 🛠 Application + Obedience Plan 🙏 Prayer & Commitment 🧠 KEY INSIGHT (Leader Summary) “You will reproduce what you are. If your identity is not firmly fixed in Christ, you cannot multiply disciples who follow Him.” Paul contrasts the lives of Saul, David, and Solomon to show how identity impacts fruitfulness in disciple-making. David was “a man after God’s own heart” not because he was perfect, but because his identity was rooted in God. The episode lays out a process for fixing our identity on Christ through Scripture, obedience, and multiplication. 📖 SCRIPTURE REFERENCES 1 Samuel 13–15 (Saul’s disobedience) 2 Samuel 11–12 (David and Bathsheba) 1 Kings 10–11 (Solomon’s drift) John 14:15 – “If you love me, keep my commands.” James 1:22 – “Do not merely listen to the word… do what it says.” ❓ DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 🔍 Identity Check Q1: What stood out to you most from the episode? Leader Tip: Encourage responses tied to the three kings, identity, or the concept of multiplication. Q2: Paul said, “You produce what you are.” In your current spiritual walk, what would be reproduced? Q3: In what roles or titles (parent, worker, pastor, etc.) do you sometimes anchor your identity instead of Christ? Leader Tip: Share a personal example to open vulnerability. 🧭 Scripture + Obedience Q4: Paul teaches that fixing our identity on Christ requires daily Scripture reading + obedience. How are you currently engaging with Scripture personally? Q5: Which of the DBS questions do you think is most powerful for transforming your daily life? What does this say about God? What does this say about people? What should I do to obey? 🌱 Fruit + Multiplication Q6: What’s an example of spiritual fruit you’ve seen from obedience to Scripture? Q7: How can we help others obey Scripture and multiply this process? Leader Tip: Highlight Discovery Bible Study (DBS) or disciple-making communities as options. 🛠️ APPLICATION: Obedience Plan Have each person choose one passage to read this week. Then answer: What does it teach me about God/people? How will I obey in the next 24–48 hours? Who will I tell, and how can I invite others to join me? ✍️ Leaders: write these responses down or ask members to text them to you for accountability next week. 🙏 CLOSING PRAYER Ask God to reveal misplaced identity Pray for courage to obey His word this week Pray for multiplication opportunities—people to disciple or invite into DBS 🧾 FOLLOW-UP CHALLENGE Next week, open by asking: How did you obey? What was the fruit? Who did you share this with? --- 👑 Two Kings, Two Outcomes: Why Identity Matters in Disciple-Making When we look at the lives of King Saul and King David, one thing becomes strikingly clear: both were chosen, both were anointed, but only one left a legacy aligned with God’s heart. In the CDM Podcast, Paul Watson explains that the real difference between Saul and David wasn’t talent, opportunity, or even failure—it was identity. Saul’s identity was rooted in his role. He constantly made decisions based on fear of man and the need to protect his position. Even when he received direct instructions from God, he compromised to preserve appearances. Saul was more concerned with how he looked to others than how he stood before God. His identity was unstable, tied to performance and approval. David’s identity, however, was rooted in his relationship with God. Even in failure—like his sin with Bathsheba—David responded with humility, repentance, and a desire to be restored. His actions weren’t always godly, but his heart always turned back to God. His identity was built not on perfection but on connection—he knew who he was because he knew whose he was. The lesson?  If we want to make disciples worth multiplying, we must first anchor our identity in Christ. Without that foundation, we risk replicating insecurity, inconsistency, and spiritual drift in the people we disciple. We don’t multiply knowledge or programs—we multiply who we are. “You produce what you are. If your identity is in anything but Christ, that’s what you’ll reproduce.” Want to become a disciple worth multiplying? Start with your identity. --- 🔥 Inspirational + Bold Quotes "You produce what you are. If you’re not following Jesus, you can’t make disciples who follow Him." "Your identity determines your fruit. Period." "David wasn’t perfect, but his heart always turned back to God. That’s what made him a disciple worth multiplying." "Saul obeyed just enough to look faithful. David obeyed out of love." "We obey because of love for Christ—not fear of hell." "If your identity is rooted in your role, title, or gifting, it will collapse under pressure." 🧠 Reflective & Thought-Provoking "What are you multiplying—your personality or the character of Christ?" "Who you are in private will shape the movement you lead in public." "If we don’t fix our identity in Christ, we’ll replicate insecurity, pride, and fear in those we disciple." The Heart of Engagement

Bottom-line Christian living centers around people as priority.   “Life is beautiful not because of the things we see or the things we do. Life is beautiful because of the people we meet..”   In Christianity, we have often not cared about building relationships. We care about Gospel presentations–which can be unnerving at first. But relationships are hard work.   Foundationally, making disciples is not as much sharing the Gospel as it is walking with others in relationship; with the goal of seeing the Kingdom of God come.   —Our disciple-making efforts must build on the right foundation— What is the Heart of Engagement?
