There are a lot of factors that come into play when someone is choosing a community where they want to live - career opportunities, being close to family, access to goods and services, proximity to recreation, arts and culture. Ord and Valley County possess many amenities that contribute to a fulfilling and enjoying life for people of all ages. On this episode of The Chamber Connection Podcast, Megan Gotschall, the Administrator of Grandview Assisted & Independent Living in Ord, Nebraska, provides a glimpse inside the community of Grandview for those seeking a place to call home for the later years of life.
The quality and availability of childcare is critical for the success of any community. A thriving  childcare industry allows working parents be a part of the local workforce, it creates employment opportunities for childcare providers and educators, and more importantly, quality care shapes the minds and ethics of our youngest citizens - our next generation of workforce and community members. According to a report commissioned by First Five Nebraska, conducted by the University of Nebraska - Lincoln's Bureau of Business Research, the lack of childcare costs Nebraskans $745 million per year.  You can access The Bottom Line Report Overview on First Five Nebraska's website: www.FirstFiveNebraska.org On this episode of The Chamber Connection Podcast, we visit with Mike Feeken, Strategic Partnerships Advisor for First Five Nebraska, about the impacts childcare has on local economies and a Legislative Bill (LB531) that was introduced on February 4, 2021 regarding the Nebraska Child Care Contribution Tax Credit Act and the benefits it could create for the Valley County area. For more information on the Loup Valley Childhood Initiative, visit www.LoupValleyChildhoodInitiative.com.

One thing that makes small businesses so unique and special is their connection to families.  Ancestry and quality time are woven throughout their fabric.  It could be the reason an individual pursues their entrepreneurial dreams or how one keeps a legacy alive with the use of a namesake.  LUX by Leslie is a great example of kinship within small business. For this episode of the Chamber Connection Podcast, I’m joined by Leslie Sikyta, owner and operator of LUX by Leslie.  Hear more about how this Ord business began and where they’re headed during our first Chamber Spotlight episode.  To learn more about LUX by Leslie, visit www.LUXbyLeslie.com or follow them on social media:FacebookInstagramTikTok
If you've listed to any previous episodes of this podcast, you know you know a major topics is the arts, specifically the arts in Nebraska.  I love asking Nebraska based artists why they chose to stay instead of leaving for a major metropolitan area.  The truth is, Nebraska isn’t just a great place for artists to call home, it breeds artistry.  The "slower pace" adjective we all use to boast about our beloved state, is what allows creatives to recharge and re-energize their talents.  The organic formation of Lincoln based band, The Wildwoods, is proof of that.  In today’s episode, I’m joined by Noah, a founding member and 1/3 of the folk-Americana trio The Wildwoods.  Listen along as we hear more about this incredible band, how they got their start, and most importantly, about their upcoming show at The Golden Husk for their Valentine’s Day event on February 10th.  Learn more about The Wildwoods by visiting:Website: https://www.thewildwoodsband.com/ Facebook To get your tickets to their upcoming show at The Golden Husk on February 10, 2024, visit www.GoldenHuskArts.com.  Enjoy an evening of good music, and delicious food by Jubilee Events & Catering.
Community theater isn’t something you usually think of as an essential piece to rural living, but in reality it is.  The ability to join arm and arm with friends, neighbors and even strangers to create a community theater production is what sets communities like Valley County apart from the rest.  It allows residents to fill their cups with acting, singing, dancing, and most importantly, time with other likeminded individuals.  It also allows non-artistic community members to enjoy an evening watching the kid who bags their groceries or the neighboring farmer showcase their talents.  With the right cast, production and venue, it can even elicit emotions we weren’t prepared to feel.  For this episode, Jesse Rosberg and Karen Reynolds, stop by to talk about the upcoming community production of the holiday classic, A Christmas Carol, coming to The Golden Husk on December 1-3, 2023.To get your tickets to A Christmas Carol, visit www.GoldenHuskArts.org.
The sound of a piano is widely recognized, probably because you hear it more often than you think.  If you listen close enough, you can hear it all around.  In the elevator, while you’re sitting in a waiting room, in your favorite love ballad, in the sound machine you use to sleep or even in your headphones while you study for that big final.  It’s usually calming and relaxing, but can also be ominous and dark.  It’s found in many genres, generates many feelings, and is overall easy listening.  For this episode of the Chamber Connection Podcast, I’m joined by Nebraska based pianist and full-time composer Philip Daniel. Philip and I talk about his journey as an artist in Nebraska, his carefully curated sound, and most importantly, his upcoming show at The Golden Husk on Saturday, November 4th. One of the major appeals of living in a rural community is safety.  We feel comfortable leaving our front doors unlocked, sharing personal information with our neighbor, and trusting our children to make it to a from the park on their own.  But living in a rural community doesn’t necessarily protect us from all dangers.  There’s one form of security that everyone should be considering, regardless of their geography.  Cyber security is an ever growing concern, especially as technology advances.  We’re all susceptible to being hacked, clicking on a spam link, or having our identity stolen.  On this episode of the Chamber Connection Podcast, Ed Knott and Jarod Dendinger with Applied Connective share more information on how to protect yourself from falling victim to "bad actors".  15 ways to protect your organization from cyber threats:https://appliedconnective.com/wp-content/uploads/15-ways-to-protect-your-organization.pdfFree cyber security self assessment (with tips along the way) that business owners can take to make sure they've got the bare necessities in place. It can be easy to take for granted the community we live in.  Sometimes what we need is an outsiders perspective to help us realize how incredible lucky we are to live in Nebraska.  During this episode, Daniel Martinez stops by to share his story on moving from Peru to Nebraska, then making a career out of playing guitar.  Daniel, along with his band Jarana, will make a stop at The Golden Husk on Saturday, April 15, 2023 to close out the Nebraska Grown Arts Festival.
