In 1633, Galileo Galilei was condemned by the Roman Inquisition for teaching that the Earth revolves around the Sun. His defiance became a symbol of individual conscience against powerful institutions. On this episode of The Chris Spangle Show, we explore the history of individualism versus collectivism — from Socrates to the Stoics, from Christianity and the Reformation to Enlightenment thinkers such as John Locke and John Stuart Mill, and into the American founding. We also explore libertarian principles of ethical individualism, free speech, and personal responsibility, contrasting them with the dangers of conformity, censorship, and control inherent in collectivism. I was honored to (and surprised) to be asked as a guest on Jacob Winograd's show The LCI Green Room over at the Libertarian Christian Institute to talk about the “Grill Pill”—a mindset that’s all about stepping back from the chaos of national politics to focus on what really matters: faith, family, community, and yes, sometimes literally grilling. He and I unpack the emotional toll of constant political engagement, why many of us are disillusioned with activism, and how to reorder our lives around what God has actually called us to. We talk about libertarianism, Christian cultural engagement, and the dangers of making politics an idol. This one’s honest, raw, and full of hard-won wisdom. Hope it helps you recalibrate. April 2, 2025—dubbed “Liberation Day” by Donald Trump—new sweeping tariffs were announced, including a 10% baseline on all imports and steep country-specific increases. This is spot on and everything I have been thinking and saying since trump came on the scene. The republican party hypocrisy is astounding especially among Christians. Also if we can't say BLM as libertarians what the hell are we doing?! We should be fighting so hard for ANYONE who does not have equal freedoms. Thank you for this podcast and awesome job 👏👏👏

Chris - I'm sad to see this show go. I only recently came to the realization that I've been eating up Leftist propaganda as truth for most of my life, and after several weeks of research and meditation, I came out the other side a Libertarian. I think what you're offering is important and sorely lacking in today's highly polarized world. It's hard to see where the truth is, when you're fed half stories colored with a particular narrative through most of the "news" and media behemoths. This show has had a tremendous impact on me in a very short period of time, and I really appreciate the effort and passion you sew into each episode. So anyway, thank you, and God speed. I can't wait to hear your next project.

In the words of Viktor Frankl - "a man's suffering is similar to the behavior of a gas. If a certain quantity of gas is pumped into an empty chamber, it will fill the chamber completely and evenly, no matter how big the chamber. Thus suffering completely fills the human soul and conscious mind, no matter whether the suffering is great or little. Therefore the "size" of human suffering is absolutely relative."

Not sure why for-profit corporations, non-profit corporations, and unions are all being discussed as if they serve the public good equivalently. Serving shareholders vs. serving employees imply very different intentions for influencing elections.

can we move WAL daily to a separate feed? It's as if my favorite Mexican place decided to serve Mexican food only on Fridays. I drive by it every day, and sometimes it's Italian day or Chinese day or Peruvian day, and that food is fine, but I really just want to go on Fridays for the fare I fell in love with.

Do you realize that it took 20 minutes before you got to the first topic? That's entirely too long... especially when you speak about such hyper specific stuff for the first block.. I tend to just start your show halfway through an episode because I have no idea how long you will tell us the same self promo pitch for at least 15 minutes. Content please.
