Description

When April Balascio was 40 years old, something she’d feared for decades was finally proven true. Her father, Edward Wayne Edwards, really was a murderer. The Clearing is about what came after April called a detective in 2009 to tell him about her suspicions — a call that led to her father’s arrest and eventual conviction on multiple murders — and tracks the emotional journey as she and host Josh Dean dig back into her childhood, unravel the truth of her father’s life, and overturn a viral online narrative that had turned Edward Wayne Edwards into a kind of serial killer caricature.
Produced by Pineapple Street Media in association with Gimlet.

love the music but I question its appropriateness for some of this.. Some of the music sounds like a Hallmark movie instead of a murderer show.. I would love to supply some music to any future podcasts ... I'm part of the CBC account.. loving this story so far... Kudos to all

Anyone else get an Abducted in Plain Sight vibe from this? It had that same ludicrous twisty-ness to it.

You would think a detour through Ohio to Florida would be odd, but there's some sort of weird Ohio-Florida connection that makes that seem more valid somehow.

Great podcast. April, I admire your strength, your refusal to feel victimized, and your determination to bring some semblance of peace to the trail of victims left in your father's wake. Life is about choices and you've made the right ones. I also love that you know your way around a workshop! xo

I wonder if he's responsible for the murders of Barbie Blatnik, Kathy Menendez, and Sarah Boehm. They were from PA&OH, and don't exactly fit his Lovers Lane MO, but they were raped and strangled. I can't remember where they said Ed was during those years. I feel like Ohio's biggest exports are soybeans and serial killers.

I enjoyed Episode 1 but this one went nowhere. Seemed like a collection of random conversations and anecdotes that didn't progress the story at all. Entirely skippable.

AshleyP. Garrett Agreed, I'm finding it lacks structure and direction. Episodes just seem to be a bunch of random conversations.
