Description

When April Balascio was 40 years old, something she’d feared for decades was finally proven true. Her father, Edward Wayne Edwards, really was a murderer. The Clearing is about what came after April called a detective in 2009 to tell him about her suspicions — a call that led to her father’s arrest and eventual conviction on multiple murders — and tracks the emotional journey as she and host Josh Dean dig back into her childhood, unravel the truth of her father’s life, and overturn a viral online narrative that had turned Edward Wayne Edwards into a kind of serial killer caricature.
Produced by Pineapple Street Media in association with Gimlet.

I've seen, heard, and experienced a lot of f***ked-up shit and was shaking my head when April said what she did. In no way she should think or feel in anyway that her actions did or didn't have some part in Danny's death. Her father was beyond f***ked-up and when he set out to do something, he made sure it was done, either to plan or not.

I think it is really important to continue to talk about cold cases, so that those victims are never forgotten and the perp can be caught. Never forget

I ABSOLUTELY loved this podcast!!! Listening I kept asking myself why...why did he pick young couples? I am always interested in the psyche of the killers...the why of why they committed these murders. I kept coming back to the thought...EWE was a bastard child, his mom was very young when she was impregnated. Did he see his mom and dad in these young couples? Was he taking out his feeling of rejection and "basterdness", if you will, on these victims? Just a thought!! Anybody else get that?

This is a great podcast. And I know you needed April to help make it. However, her voice is so annoying and whiny. Every time she speaks it’s like fingernails on a chalkboard. Sorry.

Anyone else get an Abducted in Plain Sight vibe from this? It had that same ludicrous twisty-ness to it.

You would think a detour through Ohio to Florida would be odd, but there's some sort of weird Ohio-Florida connection that makes that seem more valid somehow.

Great podcast. April, I admire your strength, your refusal to feel victimized, and your determination to bring some semblance of peace to the trail of victims left in your father's wake. Life is about choices and you've made the right ones. I also love that you know your way around a workshop! xo
