The Creative Journey

When I first met my now dear friend Rick Clemons I had yet one more closet to come out of. I was already consulting, coaching and even mentoring creatives in a very quiet, please-don’t-judge-me, “I don’t mean to make waves, I’m just another filmmaker in the city of Los Angeles” way. I wasn’t doing it, as Rick so often states, boldly. At the time I much preferred to be identified as another in a sea of millions - a filmmaker in LA? Talk about a cliche... only bested by the former skin I wore - actor. And so Rick became not only a friend but very much a mentor. I cherished every time he came down to LA and made some time to break bread and share of his knowledge and experience with me as I was navigating my coming out party of building my consulting business, in a bold, authentic way.Much like Rick, I too believe the concept of a “closet” and of “coming out” extends much beyond sexuality. Being closeted, means being closed, guarded, stuck and of course - in hiding. We all have another gear to get to, dreams that have yet to be acted on in order to be brought about, convictions we have yet to stand for, and a whole lot more we keep closeted. We all go through life having a few unresolved grudges, hooks if you will, that keep us from being the brightest, best versions of ourselves, forgiveness is never easy. But without forgiveness the hooks and grudges, vile and vitriol persists. When we hate and resent we drink the poison... so how do we stop this cycle of "hurt people hurt people", how do we forgive those that have wronged us so we may fulfill our destiny in the biggest and brightest way?I thought I had a great handle on the whole forgiving part until I met Brenda Adelman at a conference.
