After a brief holiday break, the boys are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown and while the league was dormant for most of the last week, there was still plenty to get to today on the pod.To kick things off, Jason and Frank talked about the Detroit Red Wings’ decision to make a coaching change. For the just the second time in franchise history, the team has made an in-season coaching change and the guys debated if the teams' struggles had anything to do with the coach or if there is a bigger problem with the way that the roster in constructed. That led to some talk about the Eastern Conference playoff picture and the play of the Ottawa Senators. The Senators front office nailed some big moves this summer, some of which weren’t viewed very positively at the time, while the moves that the Red Wings have made just haven’t worked out.Of course, the eight seed in the East is really only open because the New York Rangers continue to struggle. Should they be the next to make a coaching change? Jason and Frank debated that and then had a conversation about how much of the blame should lay at the feet of GM Chris Drury. They then went out West and talked about the run that the Los Angeles Kings have been on. Should Jim Hiller be in the conversation for the Jack Adams? Why aren’t more people talking about the insane season that 37-year-old Anze Kopitar is putting together? There are plenty of intriguing storylines out in Hollywood.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the who the best team in the East is, the Calder trophy odds, and Alex OVechkin’s chase of the all time goal record. They then wrapped up with some talk about a few milestones that were hit over the weekend.0:55 - Red Wings fire Lalonde6:27 - The Eastern playoff picture16:55 - Are the Rangers dead?28:40 - The Kings recent run41:05 - Buy or Sell49:00 - Weekend MilestonesShoutout to our friends at Fountain Tire: https://www.fountaintire.com/promotions/?utm_source=tnn&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=fountainConnect with us on ⬇️TwitterInstagramWebsiteDaily Faceoff Merch Hosted on Acast. Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli sat down for one last podcast before their Christmas Break and to kick things off, they talked about some of their favourite winter activities and Gregor tried to sell Frank on a few that he hasn’t tried yet like snowshoeing and going on a dog sled. They then got into the big drama that’s happening with the Vancouver Canucks. The rift between JT Miller and Elias Pettersson has really caught the publics attention but Frank says that this is nothing new. Could it get to the point where the Canucks need to move on from one of the two players for the sake of their locker room? Frank gave his thoughts. From there, they talked about some teams that are heading in totally different directions in the month of December. The Dallas Stars have been ice cold of late and while injuries have played a part, the guys discussed if there’s something off with the Stars this season. The Ottawa Senators are not looking like the Senators of old. They’ve found another gear and for the first time in a number of years, have avoided their dreaded mid-season slump. They also talked about Matt Rempe getting an eight-game suspension for his hit over the weekend. Tyler the popped in for Fill in the Blank which features some talk about Christmas shopping and then questions about Patrik Laine, the Buffalo Sabres, and the Utah Hockey club and their playoff chances.5:25 - The drama in Vancouver12:15 - Dallas’ December Dip15:00 - Senators red-hot run20:35 - Rempe gets 8 games26:55 - Fill in the Blank42:50 - Utah’s in the mixShoutout to our friends at Fountain Tire: https://www.fountaintire.com/promotions/?utm_source=tnn&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=fountainConnect with us on ⬇️TwitterInstagramWebsiteDaily Faceoff Merch Hosted on Acast. It was a wild evening in the NHL as three trades went down in the matter of a few hours. Frank and Jason broke it all down today on a new episode of The DFO Rundown. They started with the deal that saw Alexandre Carrier go from the Nashville Predators to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Justin Barron. The guys talked about why the rebuilding Canadiens wanted to get an older, more expensive defenseman and whether or not Barron is a project worth taking on for the Preds. They then got to the Kappo Kakko trade as the Rangers moved the former second overall pick to the Seattle Kraken in exchange for a package that includes defenseman Will Borgen. Gregor likes the move for Seattle and thinks that Kakko still has some upside. Frank thinks the upside is limited and thinks the Rangers did well in this deal. They quickly touched on the small trade that the Pittsburgh Penguins made and then they talked a bit about the run that the Utah Hockey Club has been on. Are they capable of being a playoff team this year?Tyler then popped in for another edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the teams that are currently leading their division, the Penguins run and whether or not we’ll see another trade before tonight’s roster freeze. To wrap up the pod, they talked a little about Christmas plans, their youth hockey coaching experiences and they quickly touched on the Vancouver Canucks and their potential plans ahead of the roster freeze.1:20 - Preds move Carrier to Montreal11:55 - Kraken add Kakko22:30 - Joseph goes back to Pittsburgh25:05 - Utah’s on a run31:30 - Buy or Sell52:15 - Current state of the CanucksShoutout to our friends at Fountain Tire: https://www.fountaintire.com/promotions/?utm_source=tnn&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=fountainConnect with us on ⬇️TwitterInstagramWebsiteDaily Faceoff Merch Hosted on Acast. To kick off a new edition of The DFO Rundown, Jason and Frank sunk their teeth into the latest surrounding the New York Rangers, who continue to struggle. GM Chris Drury tried to shake things up by trading Captain Jacob Trouba and it hasn’t sparked the team the way that they had hoped. Will someone pay for these struggles with their job? Or will the Rangers try to see this through with their current group? The guys debated it.From there, they went to upstate New York and talked about the Sabres ten game losing streak. Is it time for a change at the top in Buffalo? Frank thinks it might be but also wasn’t willing to say that their season is over. Things aren’t working and that is a fact. The Sabres will need to change something soon. They then went out west and talked about the comments that Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Rick Tocchet following the teams loss this weekend. Was Tocchet right to call out his team? The guys discussed it. Frank thinks the Canucks have an issue on their blueline and wondered if they should have been in on the Cam Fowler trade talks. That then led them to breakdown the deal that did happen between the Blues and Ducks.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked them about the Ottawa Senators playoff chances, who the truly elite teams are in the West, and which team could be next to make a trade. After that, they talked about the MVP race and a pair of teams in the Eastern Conference who are continuing to play well after strong starts to the season.1:05 - Rangers struggles continue16:10 - Can the Sabres turn it around?25:05 - Tocchet’s post game comments30:00 - Cam Fowler moves to St. Louis34:30 - Fill in the Blank35:50 - The MVP Race54:00 - The Devils start56:30 - The Capitals continued runShoutout to our friends at Fountain Tire: https://www.fountaintire.com/promotions/?utm_source=tnn&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=fountainConnect with us on ⬇️TwitterInstagramWebsiteDaily Faceoff Merch Hosted on Acast. Frank and Jason are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown as they go around the league and touch on some of the bigger stories that are floating around. To start the pod, they talked about the Vancouver Canucks, who welcomed back Thatcher Demko to the lineup and are expected to have JT Miller back by the end of the week. Could the Canucks start to gain some momentum now that they have some key pieces back? One team that has not been gaining any sort of momentum is the Nashville Predators. They are still sitting at the bottom of the league after spending like drunken sailors over the summer. Frank speculated on whether or not a coaching change is needed while Gregor talked about how they need to just accept fate this year and take whatever draft pick they get. They also quickly touched on Trevor Zegras’ knee injury before bringing in Tyler Yaremchuk for Buy or Sell where he got the guys take on a few of the major awards that appear to have clear front runners at the one-third mark of the season. They wrapped things up by each giving their five true Stanley Cup contenders. The guys were pretty aligned with who they had but there were some interesting debates about the teams they omitted.2:20 - Canucks get Miller & Demko back9:20 - Preds keep slipping23:00 - Ducks & Zegras24:00 - Buy or Sell41:10 - Who are the Cup contenders?Shoutout to our friends at Fountain Tire: https://www.fountaintire.com/promotions/?utm_source=tnn&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=fountainConnect with us on ⬇️TwitterInstagramWebsiteDaily Faceoff Merch Hosted on Acast. Frank and Jason are back with a fresh edition of The DFO Rundown and to kick things off today, they discussed what went down on Friday with the New York Rangers as they made a pair of significant moves. First, they traded their Captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks and managed to get out of his entire contract then just a few hours later, they came to an agreement with franchise goalie Igor Shesterkin, which was the richest contract ever given to a goaltender. With all things considered, was Friday a win for GM Chris Drury? Or is there now pressure to add? The guys discussed that and also talked about why the Ducks wanted to make this move. The other piece of news from late last week was the third coaching change of the regular season. The Chicago Blackhawks fired Luke Richardson after just over two years behind their bench and replaced him with Anders Sorensen. That led to some talk about how the Blackhawks are handling their rebuild and whehter or not they’re on track in the Connor Bedard era.Tyler then popped in for Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys a little bit more about the Ducks plans and also how much longer Blackhawks fans will have to wait until they’re finally watching their team back in the playoffs. To wrap it up, Jason talked about the Eastern Conference playoff picture as things begin to tighten up. Can the Penguins actually stay in the hunt? Out West, Frank had some questions about the Dallas Stars.1:10 - Rangers trade Trouba11:40 - Shesterkin’s record extension21:50 - Blackhawks fire Richardson33:20 - Fill in the Blank41:00 - Eastern playoff picture46:20 - Western playoff picture1:02:10 - Board of Governors previewWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? The Four Nations Rosters have officially been announced with roughly two months to go before the tournament will get going. That's where Jason and Frank began on today’s edition of The DFO Rundown. They started by talking about who who have been considered the last cuts for both Team USA and Team Canada. Players like Zach Hyman, Tage Thompson, Evan Bouchard, and Cole Caufield are the names that immediately got brought up, but Frank also thought a player like Jason Robertson deserved more love in the conversation. They also broke down some of the flaws with each team’s selection process. After breaking down each roster, Tyler jumped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about whether or not the Nashville Predators would consider a coaching change, if the Los Angeles Kings are legit contenders in the West, and whether or not Auston Matthews can work his way back into the goal scoring race. After that, Jason and Frank went around the NHL and talked about the Trevor Zegras injury, Mitch Marner’s production, and the David Jiricek trade that went down last weekend.4:50 - USA last cuts10:00 - Canada’s big omissions20:20 - USA snubs32:00 - Buy or Sell (Preds, Kings, Matthews)41:15 - Who’s the favourite at the Four Nations?43:30 - Zegras injury46:00 - Marners’s future52:10 - Jiricek tradeWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Happy Thanksgiving! Jason and Frank recorded a fresh episode of the podcast as the long weekend in the USA gets going. After some talk about the football schedule and Frank’s favourites parts of the holiday, the guys got into some talk about the toughest decisions that each team at the upcoming 4 Nations Faceoff is facing. This is the final podcast before the teams are going to be officially announced so they went through all four teams and talked about some of the bubble players that could end up making the cut. They started with Team USA where the goaltending seems locked in but there are a handful of open spots when it comes to both the forwards and defense. Players like Tage Thompson, Zach Werenski, and Chris Krieder are some of the names sparking up the most debate. For Team Canada, they discussed who the fourth-line centre should be with names like John Tavares, Connor Bedard, Nick Suzuki and Mark Schiefele all being possibilities. On the blueline, they debated the chances that someone like Evan Bouchard has of being on the team. The goaltending is obviously a soft spot for Canada and Jason and Frank gave their thoughts on who they could end up going with between the pipes. After going through the projected rosters for Finland and Sweden, they brought in Tyler Yaremchuk for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about the playoff picture at the quarter way mark of the season and the trade rumours swirling around the New York Rangers. 4:40 - USA’s 4 Nations Roster12:15 - Canada’s 4 Nations Roster28:55 - Sweden’s 4 Nations Roster39:35 - Fill in the Blank (Rangers, Bedard, playoff teams)Want to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? We got some big news in the NHL over the weekend as the St. Louis Blue fired Drew Bannister just 22 games into his Head Coaching career and promptly hired Jim Montgomery, who was let go from his job behind the Boston Bruins bench just five days earlier. That’s where Jason and Frank began with today’s edition of the show as they talked about why Blues GM Doug Armstrong made this move and the decision to give Montgomery a five-year contract. Can the Blues salvage this season? Is the future bright? The guys debated it.From there, they talked about the struggling Pittsburgh Penguins. The team seems lifeless and now the discussion is becoming what exactly should Kyle Dubas do this season? Frank believes they’re in the mix on David Jiricek, but isn’t quite sure what assets they’d be willing to give up.After a brief little bit of relationship advice from Gregor, they brought in Tyler for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked them about a couple of teams that are in interesting spots when it comes to the playoff picture. To wrap up the pod, Joe Thornton got to see his number #19 go to the rafters in San Jose over the weekend and the guys wanted to talk about Thornton’s legacy both in the game and in the San Jose community.1:05 - Montgomery lands in St. Louis15:50 - Pittsburgh’s struggles continue26:30 - Hurricanes goaltending30:00 - Buy or Sell40:55 - Jumbo Joe jersey retirement47:50 - Senators keep slippingWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? The first trade targets list of the season has dropped and that means it’s officially time to start talking about what big moves we could see this year! Frank and Jason went through some of the more intriguing players on the board and which ones are more likely to move than others. Before they dug into that, they talked about the Nashville Predators and their continued struggles. Last night, they were assessed a minor penalty for not icing the proper starting lineup and wound up getting shutout by the Seattle Kraken. That led to the guys talking about the playoff picture in the West and which teams will find ways to stay in the conversation this year and who could fall out in the next few months. They then got into the trade talk and dug into Frank’s list. They started with Joel Farabee who is on the board even though he has three more years on his current deal. Frank believes he has 35+ goal potential and he just needs to be put in the right situation. They also talked about Michael Matheson, who Gregor thinks is the most intriguing defenseman on the board. Is it smart for the Habs to move on from their best defenseman though? They also had a long conversation about Blue Jackets forward Mathieu Olivier. Gregor thinks he would be a great add for a contender but also thinks the Blue Jackets would be foolish to move him while Frank thinks they should cash in on his value. There was some significant injury news this week too as the Capitals are going to be without Alex Ovechkin for the next few weeks. The timing could not have been any worse as he was on an absolute heater. Frank gave an update on when he could come back today.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about some award long-shots and the Predators playoff chances. They wrapped with some talk about the Toronto Maple Leafs and the run they’ve been on despite their injuries. They also gave their thoughts on the Jim Montgomery firing in Boston.1:05 - Predators struggles continue10:45 - Joel Farabee’s availability16:40 - Could the Habs trade Mike Matheson?22:00 - CBJ & Mathieu Olivier32:10 - Ovechkin’s injury33:35 - Fill in the Blank44:40 - Montgomery firingWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Jason and Frank are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown to recap what was a wildly eventful weekend in the NHL. To start, they talked about Alex Ovechkin’s ridiculous production. The 39-year-old is on pace for 111 points and his projected date to pass Wayne Gretzky for the most goals of all time is getting closer and closer. The Capitals have been red-hot so far this season and it’s not just Ovechkin driving things. Frank pointed out that this team is looking very balanced. They also talked about another team in the Eastern Conference: the Carolina Hurricanes. They’re being driven by Martin Necas’ hot start and that created a big debate about whether or not he’s just a player on a hot-streak or a budding star. They then dug into the Ryan Reaves hit on Darnell Nurse, which resulted in Reaves getting a five-game suspension. Did the league get this right? Was the hit as bad as the social media commentary made it out to be? The guys talked about it.They also talked about the struggles in Chicago. The team is struggling to string together wins and even more surprisingly, Connor Bedard is struggling and it all came to a front on Saturday night as he was frustrated in his return to his hometown of Vancouver.Tyler then popped in for Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about a few futures bets he likes over at Bet365.They wrapped up the show with a follow up on their conversation from last week about limiting contract terms, the Flyers' bounce back over their last ten games and a surprising contender in the Calder Trophy race.1:00 - Ovechkin’s crazy pace9:20 - Necas’ hot start14:50 - Ryan Reaves suspension21:05 - Bedard & the Blackhawks struggle34:55 - Buy or Sell44:20 - Limiting contract term47:00 - Flyers bounce back52:30 - Dustin Wolf & the Flames$250 Fanatics Gift Card Giveaway: https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/contests/speak-up-and-scoreWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank is back from the GM Meetings and has some notes on what was discussed as some of the most influential minds in hockey got together. The league and the players association are getting close to having to negotiate a new CBA and that means each side is starting to have internal discussions about what they could want. That’s where the guys started today on the podcast and it led to some interesting debates about whether or not they could change the term limits for player contracts, how LTIR could change, and other things that could be changed in the next CBA.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys who their quarter way Jack Adams winner would be and how many career points Connor McDavid will finish with when all is said and done. After that, they talked a little bit more about McDavid’s upcoming milestone as he closes in on 1000 career points. Frank talked about a few players in the 1000 point club who were maybe a little under appreciated. They wrapped up the show by talking about the next Hockey Hall of Fame class and who are the locks to get in. They debated Carey Price, Joe Thornton, Duncan Keith, Ryan Getzlaf, and Duncan Keith and their chances of getting in.2:20 - Term limits17:44 - How could LTIR change?32:40 - Fill in the Blank46:00 - Under Appreciated players in the 1k club52:00 - Next HHOF Class$250 Fanatics Gift Card Giveaway: https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/contests/speak-up-and-scoreWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Today on The DFO Rundown, Jason and Frank started off by talking about Hall of Fame weekend in Toronto. Frank was in attendance for the induction ceremony and talked about why this weekend is one his his favourites. Jeremy Roenick stole the show with his Mike Keenan urinal story which reminded Frank that he’s been through a similar experience. They also talked about some of the names eligible for the 2025 HHOF Class. From there, they moved on to Alex Ovechkin and the feverish pace he’s off to this season. The question is no longer “will he catch Wayne Gretzky?” it’s now “when will he catch him?” and as he continues to pile up the goals, there becomes a better and better chance that he actually breaks The Great One’s record in fewer games.Tyler then popped in for Buy or Sell where he asked the guys just how high the Winnipeg Jets could soar, how long it will take McDavid to get back into the top ten of league scoring, and whether or now we’ll see a coach get fired this month. After that, Gregor and Frank talked about Nathan MacKinnon’s crazy production this season and how even with that, the Avs continue to look mediocre.Frank wrapped up the pod by telling us what he’s expected to hear at the GM Meetings on Tuesday.1:10 - HHOF Weekend12:15 - Ovechkin’s record chase20:50 - Matthews injury & Leafs roster update22:15 - Buy or Sell (Penguins, Jets, McDavid)35:00 - MacKinnon’s crazy pace49:20 - GM Meetings preview$250 Fanatics Gift Card Giveaway: https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/contests/speak-up-and-scoreWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli are back with another edition of of The DFO Rundown as they tackled some big stories from around the NHL. The one quote that dominated headlines this week was Predators GM Barry Trotz saying that if his team doesn’t turn it around he will start looking at his rebuilding plans. Things are ugly in Nashville after they spent more than any other team this offseason, can it turn around soon? They gave their thoughts. They then got into another struggling team in the West. The Anaheim Ducks were hoping to step out of their rebuild and start pushing for a playoff spot with their young core but it is not going to plan. Lukas Dostal is looking like a future star between the pipes but even with his elite play, they’re struggling to win. Does something need to change in Anaheim? Frank thinks so.Gregor then gave some quick stats before Tyler popped in with a fresh edition of Fill in the Blank brought to you by Bet365. He asked the guys about who the next team to make a trade will be, a pair of pending UFAs who are looking to get paid, and whether or not this years Stanley Cup winner could be a first time winner. They wrapped up by talking about the Seattle Kraken, who Frank dubbed “the New York Islanders of the west”. They can’t score and Frank thinks there needs to be a bigger sense of urgency to find themselves a star player. Jason thinks this all goes back to them fumbling the expansion draft.1:55 - Trotz’s comments11:00 - Ducks struggles20:55 - Gregor’s fast stats31:10 - Fill in the Blank47:10 - Kraken keep strugglingWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank and Jason are back with a fresh episode of the podcast following a wild Halloween weekend around the league. To start, they talked about their weekends which featured football and costume parties. It was a wildly unique weekend recap from the guys.Frank also spent some time in Boston talking with NHLPA Executive Director Marty Walsh. It’s the first time that they’ve acknowledged CTE and have formed a new board. Franke explained why this is significant and what the NHLPA hopes to accomplish.Sticking with Boston, it was a drama-filled weekend for the Bruins. While they won both of their games, there was more drama as Jim Montgomery benched David Pastrnak for the entire third period after a turnover. Frank wondered if it was a bridge too far. They then went out west and talked about the Seattle Kraken, who might be open to trading a forward. They also talked about the Carolina Hurricanes and the red-hot Martin Necas. Plus, Alex Ovechkin has firing home pucks like vintage Ovi and the Caps are also racking up the wins.Tyler then popped in for a fresh edition of Buy or Sell, brought to you by Bet365. He asked the guys about who will be the next great value contract in the league and a pair of players in contract year.7:50 - NHLPA acknowledges CTE16:35 - Montgomery & the Bruins23:00 - Kraken open to making a move28:40 - Red-hot Canes33:50 - Ovi & the Caps42:00 - Buy or SellWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? To begin an all new edition of The DFO Rundown, Jason and Frank talked about a pair of teams that are currently fighting through some pretty big injury problems. For the Colorado Avalanche, the sheer number of players they’re missing is the problem. With the likes of Ross Colton, Arturri Lehkonen and Jonathan Drouin joining Gabriel Landeskog and Valeri Nichuskin on the injured reserve, they’re basically missing everyone in their top-six with the exception of Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon. Can Jared Bednar and company get through this stretch without putting themselves too far behind in the Central Division? The Oilers are only dealing with one injury but it’s a big one as they’ll be without Connor McDavid for the next 2-3 weeks. Gregor wondered if this could be a wakeup call for the team while Frank talked about the teams lack of reaction when their Captain went down. From there, they talked a bit about the Columbus Blue Jackets, who are suddenly looking like an offensive powerhouse. They also looked at Kyle Connor’s remarkable start to the season, which Gregor thinks will result in a 50-goal season. That led them to talking about Team USA’s potential roster at the Four Nation’s Faceoff and some of the tough decisions that they’re going to need to make.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about a pair of struggling Eastern Conference teams in the Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings and also, which NHL franchises they’d be buying shares in right now if they could.1:20 - Avs & their injuries9:55 - Oilers lose McDavid15:05 - Blue Jackets offensive firepower22:00 - Team USA’s roster decisions42:30 - Fill in the BlankWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Jason and Frank are back with another fresh episode of The DFO Rundown. The guys kicked off today’s show with some drama in Long Island. The Islanders are seemingly having some issues between Head Coach, Patrick Roy, and GM, Lou Lamoriello. They then jump right into the Maple Leafs extension of Jake McCabe. (5 Years - $4.51M)Tonight is a big night for Steven Stamkos, heading back to Tampa for the first time since being traded. Will this trade end up being a smart move? We suspect a warm welcome for Stamkos tonight. The guys then dive deeper into the Atlantic division to discuss the rough start to the season for both Boston and Buffalo. Should NHL teams have a 3rd professional goalie on the roster that travels with the team and fills in when necessary in emergency situations? Jason and Frank are back with another fresh episode of The DFO Rundown. The guys kicked off today’s show with a little bit of talk about Halloween including how they handle giving out candy at their house. They then got into some talk about a pair of teams who are continuing their hot streaks to start the year: the Calgary Flames and the Minnesota Wild.Frank admitted that he should have been higher on the Wild and listed the reasons why they will be a playoff team this season. Gregor talked about how impressive it’s been that they’ve remained competitive even with their dead cap issues. As for the Flames, they’re proving that they won’t be a bottom-feeder. Frank says that they were never capable of truly bottoming out. The guys also talked about one of the best stories of the season in Justin Kirkland, or as Flames fans are calling him “Kirkland Signature”.From there, they talked about Cale Makar’s start to the season and how big the gap is between the Avs defenseman and the rest of the NHL. They then talked about the Leafs' start to the year, their improved blueline, and what they’re going to do with their goaltending situation. That led to Gregor’s take on the Montreal Canadiens blueline. He thinks the Habs made a mistake coming into the season with as young and small of a defence as they have, he also thinks that they’re playing Lane Hutson far too much. Frank disagreed with the Hutson take and explained why the hate he’s been getting is very unjustified.Tyler then swung by for a fresh edition of Fill in the Blank, presented by Bet365. He asked the guys about which team has changed their perception of them the most, the rash of injuries that the Utah Hockey Club has been dealing with, and some early season regrets.8:00 - Flames & Wild off to hot starts17:00 - Makar vs Hughes21:30 - The Leafs start to the year25:35 - Canadiens blueline38:40 - Fill in the BlankWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Jason and Frank have a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown for you to begin your week with. After some banter about Halloween, the guys got into the hockey talk and they began today’s show with a bit of a different vibe as they decided to look back at the 2020 NHL Draft and each pick their starting five from that class.Players like Alexis Lafreniere and Tim Stutzle are both locked up front, and Brock Faber and Jake Sanderson are on the blueline as well. After that, there are some pretty good debates including who the final forward should be, who will go down as the third-best defenseman from this class, and who will ultimately be the best goalie from the group. The final part about goaltending led them to a discussion about the current state of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tristan Jarry was healthy scratched over the weekend as Joel Blomqvist continues to get starts. Mike Sullivan feels frustrated with his goaltending and as the Penguins struggle, Frank wondered about Sullivan’s future in the Steel City. After a brief discussion about the idea of adding a full-time third goalie for every team in the league, the guys turned to the final perfect team in the NHL: the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck has been dialed in but should the Jets be trying to lessen his workload? The guys debated it.Tyler then popped in with Buy or Sell where he asked about a fun debate that was posed on Daily Faceoff on Sunday, Sam Bennett, and how many 100-point teams there could be in the Pacific Division.8:00 - Revisiting the 2020 Draft19:30 - Penguins, their goaltending & Mike Sullivan26:30 - Adding a third goalie32:35 - Jets stay perfect39:55 - Oilers offense stays cold42:30 - Predators struggles46:30 - Buy or SellWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Jason and Frank are back with another new edition of The DFO Rundown as they broke down the biggest headlines from around the NHL. Today, they begun with a pair of big milestone moments that went down last night in Pittsburgh as both Malkin and Crosby hit big numbers. Talking about the Penguins' start to the year naturally led to some conversation about Tristan Jarry’s struggles, which continued last night. Do the Pens have a goalie problem? Or is Jarry now strictly the backup? From there, the guys got into some other goalie situations around the league including Georgiev in Colorado, Ingram in Utah and Ullmark in Ottawa. Yes, it’s still early but there are some teams that are already concerned with their crease situation.Next, they talked about Gregor’s latest research project: is it easier to score 30 goals in today’s NHL? He made some interesting points regarding scoring trends in the league. One hot topic from the first few weeks of the season: what is, and isn’t, goalie interference? A handful of fan bases feel like they’re getting robbed of goals and when you go back through the goals that have been wiped off the board and the goals that have stood, the standard appears to be a little fuzzy. Jason and Frank gave their thoughts on whether or not the league will be able to find a solution to this.Tyler popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he talked about Matvei Michkov, the Leafs and the list of teams without wins.3:30 - Malkin& Crosby milestones8:20 - Georgiev & the Avs13:20 - Ingram & Utah18:45 - Predators early season struggles25:40 - Ullmark update27:15 - 30-goal conversation36:20 - Goalie interference44:30 - Fill in the BlankWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team?
