The first trade targets list of the season has dropped and that means it’s officially time to start talking about what big moves we could see this year! Frank and Jason went through some of the more intriguing players on the board and which ones are more likely to move than others. Before they dug into that, they talked about the Nashville Predators and their continued struggles. Last night, they were assessed a minor penalty for not icing the proper starting lineup and wound up getting shutout by the Seattle Kraken. That led to the guys talking about the playoff picture in the West and which teams will find ways to stay in the conversation this year and who could fall out in the next few months. They then got into the trade talk and dug into Frank’s list. They started with Joel Farabee who is on the board even though he has three more years on his current deal. Frank believes he has 35+ goal potential and he just needs to be put in the right situation. They also talked about Michael Matheson, who Gregor thinks is the most intriguing defenseman on the board. Is it smart for the Habs to move on from their best defenseman though? They also had a long conversation about Blue Jackets forward Mathieu Olivier. Gregor thinks he would be a great add for a contender but also thinks the Blue Jackets would be foolish to move him while Frank thinks they should cash in on his value. There was some significant injury news this week too as the Capitals are going to be without Alex Ovechkin for the next few weeks. The timing could not have been any worse as he was on an absolute heater. Frank gave an update on when he could come back today.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about some award long-shots and the Predators playoff chances. They wrapped with some talk about the Toronto Maple Leafs and the run they’ve been on despite their injuries. They also gave their thoughts on the Jim Montgomery firing in Boston.1:05 - Predators struggles continue10:45 - Joel Farabee’s availability16:40 - Could the Habs trade Mike Matheson?22:00 - CBJ & Mathieu Olivier32:10 - Ovechkin’s injury33:35 - Fill in the Blank44:40 - Montgomery firingWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Jason and Frank are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown to recap what was a wildly eventful weekend in the NHL. To start, they talked about Alex Ovechkin’s ridiculous production. The 39-year-old is on pace for 111 points and his projected date to pass Wayne Gretzky for the most goals of all time is getting closer and closer. The Capitals have been red-hot so far this season and it’s not just Ovechkin driving things. Frank pointed out that this team is looking very balanced. They also talked about another team in the Eastern Conference: the Carolina Hurricanes. They’re being driven by Martin Necas’ hot start and that created a big debate about whether or not he’s just a player on a hot-streak or a budding star. They then dug into the Ryan Reaves hit on Darnell Nurse, which resulted in Reaves getting a five-game suspension. Did the league get this right? Was the hit as bad as the social media commentary made it out to be? The guys talked about it.They also talked about the struggles in Chicago. The team is struggling to string together wins and even more surprisingly, Connor Bedard is struggling and it all came to a front on Saturday night as he was frustrated in his return to his hometown of Vancouver.Tyler then popped in for Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about a few futures bets he likes over at Bet365.They wrapped up the show with a follow up on their conversation from last week about limiting contract terms, the Flyers' bounce back over their last ten games and a surprising contender in the Calder Trophy race.1:00 - Ovechkin’s crazy pace9:20 - Necas’ hot start14:50 - Ryan Reaves suspension21:05 - Bedard & the Blackhawks struggle34:55 - Buy or Sell44:20 - Limiting contract term47:00 - Flyers bounce back52:30 - Dustin Wolf & the Flames$250 Fanatics Gift Card Giveaway: https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/contests/speak-up-and-scoreWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank is back from the GM Meetings and has some notes on what was discussed as some of the most influential minds in hockey got together. The league and the players association are getting close to having to negotiate a new CBA and that means each side is starting to have internal discussions about what they could want. That’s where the guys started today on the podcast and it led to some interesting debates about whether or not they could change the term limits for player contracts, how LTIR could change, and other things that could be changed in the next CBA.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys who their quarter way Jack Adams winner would be and how many career points Connor McDavid will finish with when all is said and done. After that, they talked a little bit more about McDavid’s upcoming milestone as he closes in on 1000 career points. Frank talked about a few players in the 1000 point club who were maybe a little under appreciated. They wrapped up the show by talking about the next Hockey Hall of Fame class and who are the locks to get in. They debated Carey Price, Joe Thornton, Duncan Keith, Ryan Getzlaf, and Duncan Keith and their chances of getting in.2:20 - Term limits17:44 - How could LTIR change?32:40 - Fill in the Blank46:00 - Under Appreciated players in the 1k club52:00 - Next HHOF Class$250 Fanatics Gift Card Giveaway: https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/contests/speak-up-and-scoreWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Today on The DFO Rundown, Jason and Frank started off by talking about Hall of Fame weekend in Toronto. Frank was in attendance for the induction ceremony and talked about why this weekend is one his his favourites. Jeremy Roenick stole the show with his Mike Keenan urinal story which reminded Frank that he’s been through a similar experience. They also talked about some of the names eligible for the 2025 HHOF Class. From there, they moved on to Alex Ovechkin and the feverish pace he’s off to this season. The question is no longer “will he catch Wayne Gretzky?” it’s now “when will he catch him?” and as he continues to pile up the goals, there becomes a better and better chance that he actually breaks The Great One’s record in fewer games.Tyler then popped in for Buy or Sell where he asked the guys just how high the Winnipeg Jets could soar, how long it will take McDavid to get back into the top ten of league scoring, and whether or now we’ll see a coach get fired this month. After that, Gregor and Frank talked about Nathan MacKinnon’s crazy production this season and how even with that, the Avs continue to look mediocre.Frank wrapped up the pod by telling us what he’s expected to hear at the GM Meetings on Tuesday.1:10 - HHOF Weekend12:15 - Ovechkin’s record chase20:50 - Matthews injury & Leafs roster update22:15 - Buy or Sell (Penguins, Jets, McDavid)35:00 - MacKinnon’s crazy pace49:20 - GM Meetings preview$250 Fanatics Gift Card Giveaway: https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/contests/speak-up-and-scoreWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli are back with another edition of of The DFO Rundown as they tackled some big stories from around the NHL. The one quote that dominated headlines this week was Predators GM Barry Trotz saying that if his team doesn’t turn it around he will start looking at his rebuilding plans. Things are ugly in Nashville after they spent more than any other team this offseason, can it turn around soon? They gave their thoughts. They then got into another struggling team in the West. The Anaheim Ducks were hoping to step out of their rebuild and start pushing for a playoff spot with their young core but it is not going to plan. Lukas Dostal is looking like a future star between the pipes but even with his elite play, they’re struggling to win. Does something need to change in Anaheim? Frank thinks so.Gregor then gave some quick stats before Tyler popped in with a fresh edition of Fill in the Blank brought to you by Bet365. He asked the guys about who the next team to make a trade will be, a pair of pending UFAs who are looking to get paid, and whether or not this years Stanley Cup winner could be a first time winner. They wrapped up by talking about the Seattle Kraken, who Frank dubbed “the New York Islanders of the west”. They can’t score and Frank thinks there needs to be a bigger sense of urgency to find themselves a star player. Jason thinks this all goes back to them fumbling the expansion draft.1:55 - Trotz’s comments11:00 - Ducks struggles20:55 - Gregor’s fast stats31:10 - Fill in the Blank47:10 - Kraken keep strugglingWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank and Jason are back with a fresh episode of the podcast following a wild Halloween weekend around the league. To start, they talked about their weekends which featured football and costume parties. It was a wildly unique weekend recap from the guys.Frank also spent some time in Boston talking with NHLPA Executive Director Marty Walsh. It’s the first time that they’ve acknowledged CTE and have formed a new board. Franke explained why this is significant and what the NHLPA hopes to accomplish.Sticking with Boston, it was a drama-filled weekend for the Bruins. While they won both of their games, there was more drama as Jim Montgomery benched David Pastrnak for the entire third period after a turnover. Frank wondered if it was a bridge too far. They then went out west and talked about the Seattle Kraken, who might be open to trading a forward. They also talked about the Carolina Hurricanes and the red-hot Martin Necas. Plus, Alex Ovechkin has firing home pucks like vintage Ovi and the Caps are also racking up the wins.Tyler then popped in for a fresh edition of Buy or Sell, brought to you by Bet365. He asked the guys about who will be the next great value contract in the league and a pair of players in contract year.7:50 - NHLPA acknowledges CTE16:35 - Montgomery & the Bruins23:00 - Kraken open to making a move28:40 - Red-hot Canes33:50 - Ovi & the Caps42:00 - Buy or SellWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? To begin an all new edition of The DFO Rundown, Jason and Frank talked about a pair of teams that are currently fighting through some pretty big injury problems. For the Colorado Avalanche, the sheer number of players they’re missing is the problem. With the likes of Ross Colton, Arturri Lehkonen and Jonathan Drouin joining Gabriel Landeskog and Valeri Nichuskin on the injured reserve, they’re basically missing everyone in their top-six with the exception of Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon. Can Jared Bednar and company get through this stretch without putting themselves too far behind in the Central Division? The Oilers are only dealing with one injury but it’s a big one as they’ll be without Connor McDavid for the next 2-3 weeks. Gregor wondered if this could be a wakeup call for the team while Frank talked about the teams lack of reaction when their Captain went down. From there, they talked a bit about the Columbus Blue Jackets, who are suddenly looking like an offensive powerhouse. They also looked at Kyle Connor’s remarkable start to the season, which Gregor thinks will result in a 50-goal season. That led them to talking about Team USA’s potential roster at the Four Nation’s Faceoff and some of the tough decisions that they’re going to need to make.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about a pair of struggling Eastern Conference teams in the Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings and also, which NHL franchises they’d be buying shares in right now if they could.1:20 - Avs & their injuries9:55 - Oilers lose McDavid15:05 - Blue Jackets offensive firepower22:00 - Team USA’s roster decisions42:30 - Fill in the BlankWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Jason and Frank are back with another fresh episode of The DFO Rundown. The guys kicked off today’s show with some drama in Long Island. The Islanders are seemingly having some issues between Head Coach, Patrick Roy, and GM, Lou Lamoriello. They then jump right into the Maple Leafs extension of Jake McCabe. (5 Years - $4.51M)Tonight is a big night for Steven Stamkos, heading back to Tampa for the first time since being traded. Will this trade end up being a smart move? We suspect a warm welcome for Stamkos tonight. The guys then dive deeper into the Atlantic division to discuss the rough start to the season for both Boston and Buffalo. Should NHL teams have a 3rd professional goalie on the roster that travels with the team and fills in when necessary in emergency situations? Tyler Yaremchuk is on a much deserved vacation to Seattle to watch his Bills play the Seahawks so Producer Patrick Puff fills in for today’s episode of Buy or Sell brought to you by bet365.You could argue the Golden Knights currently have one of the best lines in the NHL, what could Jack Eichel's next contract look like?Did the Buffalo Sabres make the right call moving on from Jack Eichel? Jason and Frank are back with another fresh episode of The DFO Rundown. The guys kicked off today’s show with a little bit of talk about Halloween including how they handle giving out candy at their house. They then got into some talk about a pair of teams who are continuing their hot streaks to start the year: the Calgary Flames and the Minnesota Wild.Frank admitted that he should have been higher on the Wild and listed the reasons why they will be a playoff team this season. Gregor talked about how impressive it’s been that they’ve remained competitive even with their dead cap issues. As for the Flames, they’re proving that they won’t be a bottom-feeder. Frank says that they were never capable of truly bottoming out. The guys also talked about one of the best stories of the season in Justin Kirkland, or as Flames fans are calling him “Kirkland Signature”.From there, they talked about Cale Makar’s start to the season and how big the gap is between the Avs defenseman and the rest of the NHL. They then talked about the Leafs' start to the year, their improved blueline, and what they’re going to do with their goaltending situation. That led to Gregor’s take on the Montreal Canadiens blueline. He thinks the Habs made a mistake coming into the season with as young and small of a defence as they have, he also thinks that they’re playing Lane Hutson far too much. Frank disagreed with the Hutson take and explained why the hate he’s been getting is very unjustified.Tyler then swung by for a fresh edition of Fill in the Blank, presented by Bet365. He asked the guys about which team has changed their perception of them the most, the rash of injuries that the Utah Hockey Club has been dealing with, and some early season regrets.8:00 - Flames & Wild off to hot starts17:00 - Makar vs Hughes21:30 - The Leafs start to the year25:35 - Canadiens blueline38:40 - Fill in the BlankWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Jason and Frank have a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown for you to begin your week with. After some banter about Halloween, the guys got into the hockey talk and they began today’s show with a bit of a different vibe as they decided to look back at the 2020 NHL Draft and each pick their starting five from that class.Players like Alexis Lafreniere and Tim Stutzle are both locked up front, and Brock Faber and Jake Sanderson are on the blueline as well. After that, there are some pretty good debates including who the final forward should be, who will go down as the third-best defenseman from this class, and who will ultimately be the best goalie from the group. The final part about goaltending led them to a discussion about the current state of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tristan Jarry was healthy scratched over the weekend as Joel Blomqvist continues to get starts. Mike Sullivan feels frustrated with his goaltending and as the Penguins struggle, Frank wondered about Sullivan’s future in the Steel City. After a brief discussion about the idea of adding a full-time third goalie for every team in the league, the guys turned to the final perfect team in the NHL: the Winnipeg Jets. Connor Hellebuyck has been dialed in but should the Jets be trying to lessen his workload? The guys debated it.Tyler then popped in with Buy or Sell where he asked about a fun debate that was posed on Daily Faceoff on Sunday, Sam Bennett, and how many 100-point teams there could be in the Pacific Division.8:00 - Revisiting the 2020 Draft19:30 - Penguins, their goaltending & Mike Sullivan26:30 - Adding a third goalie32:35 - Jets stay perfect39:55 - Oilers offense stays cold42:30 - Predators struggles46:30 - Buy or SellWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Jason and Frank are back with another new edition of The DFO Rundown as they broke down the biggest headlines from around the NHL. Today, they begun with a pair of big milestone moments that went down last night in Pittsburgh as both Malkin and Crosby hit big numbers. Talking about the Penguins' start to the year naturally led to some conversation about Tristan Jarry’s struggles, which continued last night. Do the Pens have a goalie problem? Or is Jarry now strictly the backup? From there, the guys got into some other goalie situations around the league including Georgiev in Colorado, Ingram in Utah and Ullmark in Ottawa. Yes, it’s still early but there are some teams that are already concerned with their crease situation.Next, they talked about Gregor’s latest research project: is it easier to score 30 goals in today’s NHL? He made some interesting points regarding scoring trends in the league. One hot topic from the first few weeks of the season: what is, and isn’t, goalie interference? A handful of fan bases feel like they’re getting robbed of goals and when you go back through the goals that have been wiped off the board and the goals that have stood, the standard appears to be a little fuzzy. Jason and Frank gave their thoughts on whether or not the league will be able to find a solution to this.Tyler popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he talked about Matvei Michkov, the Leafs and the list of teams without wins.3:30 - Malkin& Crosby milestones8:20 - Georgiev & the Avs13:20 - Ingram & Utah18:45 - Predators early season struggles25:40 - Ullmark update27:15 - 30-goal conversation36:20 - Goalie interference44:30 - Fill in the BlankWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank and Jason are back with a fresh edition of the DFO Rundown as the first weekend of the regular season is behind us. Now that every team has taken to the ice a handful of times, some fascinating storylines have emerged. They began the show by talking about the Pittsburgh Penguins first few games and the goalie controversy that could be brewing there. Head Coach Mike Sullivan had some interesting comments on the decision to play Joel Blomqvist over Tristan Jarry. That conversation eventually led them to the Colorado Avalanche, who also have some issues with their goaltending and from there, it turned into a bigger conversation about the state of the goaltending market. Frank had some thoughts about the Sergei Bobrovsky deal and they also talked about the Joey Daccord contract. They also talked about a couple of teams that are off to sluggish starts in the Nashville Predators and Edmonton Oilers. Is there a reason to be concerned in either market?Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell, presented by Bet365. He asked the guys about Dylan Guenther’s red-hot start, the Oilers' struggles, the Habs’ strong start, and whether or not Jack Eichel can be a 100-point player.3:15 - The state of the Penguins7:40 - Georgiev and the Avs11:30 - The goaltending market24:00 - Utah starts hot28:15 - Predators & Oilers stumble35:30 - The Habs offense40:00 - Buy or Sell57:20 - Week 2 storylinesWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank and Jason are back with a fresh episode of the pod. Pretty much every team in the league has played a game now as the season is a few days old and there are plenty of storyline developing. They started off by talking about the effects of Hurricane Milton on the Tampa Bay Lightning and why the organization decided to postpone a game rather than have emergency resources be used trying to make it happen. Frank had some info on what’s been happening behind the scenes. From there, they got into Alexis Lafreniere’s hot start to the season and potential extension talks between the former first overall pick and the New York Rangers. He’s taken a big step forward over the last couple of seasons and now, the Rangers might have to pay up.They also hit on the Maple Leaf's first game against their former Head Coach Sheldon Keefe, the Buffalo Sabres 0-3 start to the season, and the new look LA Kings. They also hit on what a bounce back season could look like for both Pierre-Luc Dubois and Jonathan Huberdeau.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about 100 point teams, Shane Wright’s future in Seattle, and the group of veteran defenseman who are still unsigned. They wrapped up by talking about the drama that’s been happening on the waiver wire with Raphael Lavoie and gave their thoughts on where he ultimately ends up.1:20 - Impacts of Hurricane Milton7:00 - Lafreniere extension16:15 - Berube and Keefe faceoff19:00 - Sabres struggles22:50 - Can Dubois hit 70-pts?26:50 - Jake Oettinger’s next deal35:00 - Can Huberdeau bounce back?38:20 - Fill in the Blank50:00 - Raphael Lavoie waiver dramaWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Hockey season is finally here. The offseason is over and after a few games in Europe to begin the season, the other 30 teams in the league are ready to start their regular season campaigns. To kick things off, Frank Seravalli flew to Utah where the first game in franchise history will take place tonight. They talked about the change that the players are going through this season after moving from Arizona and also, how committed Utah’s ownership and management is to making sure this is a long-term success. From there, they went out East where they talked about the Tampa Bay Lightning. Of course, Tampa Bay and Utah linked up for a big trade this summer as Utah acquired Mikael Sergachev from the Bolts. Frank thinks one of these two teams will make the playoffs and Gregor doesn’t think that bold prediction is that much of a reach. We also got some big news over the weekend as the Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman agreed to terms on a long-term deal just in time for the teams first game. It got ugly, but they found common ground. Did either side come out of this a winner? Or is it a fair deal? They then got into the first two games of the NHL’s regular season, which saw the Buffalo Sabres fall to 0-2. There is a lot of pressure on the Sabres to contend this season but Frank thinks that they can still be a playoff team and says their blueline could actually be what powers them.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell presented by Bet365. He asked the guys about the Stanley Cup odds, what to expect from Alex Ovechkin this season and this years rookie class.1:15 - Utah welcomes the NHL9:00 - Can they make the playoffs?14:00 - Could the Lightning miss the playoffs?18:40 - Swayman & Bruins find common ground26:40 - Sabres come out of the gates slow38:55 - Buy or Sell53:40 - Fast facts & predictionsWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? With October knocking at the door, Jason and Frank wrapped up their division previews by breaking down how they expect things to play out in the Pacific Division. They started off at the bottom of the division, where last season was miserable for the likes of San Jose and Anaheim, but there are reasons for optimism heading into the 2024-25 season. The Sharks of course had the first overall pick and will have Macklin Celebrini in the lineup when the season begins. On top of that, GM Mike Grier added a handful of veterans over the course of the offseason. Frank and Jason talked about how much they think the Sharks can improve this season. The Ducks on the other hand were trying to take a step last year and it didn’t happen. Can this year be different? They then got to the next tier, which features the Seattle Kraken and Calgary Flames. They both finished tied with 81 points last year but after the offseason, they seem to be going in different directions. The Flames are in the middle of a rebuild and this year could get ugly and the Kraken spent big in the offseason and have dreams of getting back to the playoffs. After that, Tyler popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank, brought to you by Bet365.To wrap things up, they looked at the four teams that made the playoffs last year. With the injury to Drew Doughty, which is expected to keep him out for a few months, could the Kings be in danger of missing the playoffs? Will the Canucks be able to keep up their level from last season? Will a healthy Golden Knights team contend for a division title? How will the Oilers handle the pressure of being Stanley Cup favourites? The DFO Rundown division previews continued to roll on and today, the guys zeroed in on the Atlantic Division. For the last few seasons, the division has been relatively top-heavy with a handful of legit Stanley Cup contenders and the rest of the division trying to step out of rebuilds. Will the 2024-25 season feature more of the same? Or can one of the bottom four teams finally take a big step forward? They kicked things off with the Montreal Canadiens, who didn’t have a crazy summer by any means but their roster does look pretty different. On top of acquiring Patrik Laine from the Blue Jackets, they’ll be welcoming back Kirby Dach, who missed most of last season with an injury and they could have Lane Hutson in the lineup. Frank thinks the Habs could really surprise people. The Ottawa Senators are certainly facing more pressure to get back into the playoffs. Frank has previously been a big believer in the Sens but is starting to get skeptical that this core can get the job done. One reason to believe: Linus Ullmark. The Senators should finally be getting good goaltending. The Sabres and Red Wings have both been trying to get out of their rebuilding phase for a few seasons now and if it doesn’t work this season, you have to wonder if major changes will be coming. Can either break through? The guys gave their takes.Tyler popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked about Auston Matthew’s goal totals and just how deep this division is.After that, they started talking about the playoff teams from last year. All four of the Bruins, Lightning, Maple Leafs, and Panthers went through some pretty big changes over the summer. Will any on the big guns fall out of the mix this season?Frank and Jason gave their thoughts on that along with an update on the Jeremy Swayman contract negotiations. They wrapped up the show by giving their official Atlantic Division playoff predictions.4:10 - Montreal Canadiens14:20 - Ottawa Senators25:10 - Buffalo Sabres32:25 - Detroit Red Wings46:10 - Tampa Bay Lightning51:20 - Toronto Maple Leafs55:15 - Boston Bruins59:15 - Florida PanthersWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Today, Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli continued their division preview series with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown. Today’s episode focused on the Central Division, which saw a handful of teams that made some major offseason changes. Before they got into that, they welcomed a new partner into the show: Fountain Tire. That led to some questions that Frank had about how winter tires work up in Canada. They also talked about the news of James Van Riemsdyk signing in Columbus. Frank says it’s the first of a few expected moves by the Blue Jackets. They kicked off the division preview by talking about the Chicago Blackhawks. What are expectations for Connor Bedard? How many rookies will be in the lineup? Did GM Kyle Davidson handle the offseason correctly? They answer all of those questions. They then jumped into the NHL’s newest franchise: the Utah Hockey Club. GM Bill Armstrong had a pretty busy offseason as he basically revamped their entire blueline. Will that along with a collection of young forwards be enough to push them into the playoffs? Also, could their new home give the players a boost? They also hit on the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild, who were both on the outside of the playoff picture last year. Neither made massive waves over the summer and are banking on internal improvement. The guys broke down whether or not that was the right play.Tyler then jumped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank, where he asked the guys about Mikko Rantanen’s next deal, Utah’s look heading into year one, and the chances of their being four 100-point teams in the division. To wrap it up, they went through the four playoff teams from last year, starting with the Nashville Predators, who spent big in free agency and brought in Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault, and Brady Skjei. Winning the offseason doesnt always translate to winning in the regular season, could that be the case in Nashville? They then moved on to the Winnipeg Jets, who are running it back once again with the same core group of players. Then there’s the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche, who are both once again looking like the class of the division.4:20 - News of the week (JVR in CBJ)6:40 - Chicago Blackhawks15:55 - Utah Hockey Club23:23 - Minnesota Wild32:15 - St. Louis Blues39:30 - More offer sheets coming?42:30 - Fill in the Blank49:00 - Nashville Predators56:30 - Colorado Avalanche1:01:00 - Winnipeg Jets1:07:25 - Dallas StarsWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? With the NHL regular season just a month away, Jason and Frank began their division preview series. Today, they took a look at the Metro Division. They started at the bottom of the division and broke down the Columbus Blue Jackets. It’s been a heartbreaking few weeks for the organization and it will be an emotional season following the passing of Johnny Gaudreau. The guys talked about their outlook heading into the season. From there, they talked about the New Jersey Devils, who seem primed to be one of the most improved teams in the NHL coming off a miserable 2023-24 campaign that saw them post just 81 points. Their offseason was busy, but did they do enough to be a legitimate Stanley Cup contender? They then moved on to the two teams that reside in Pennsylvania. The two were split on what to expect out of the Philadelphia Flyers, who surprised a lot of people last season. The Penguins are desperately trying to get back into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but is their roster good enough to compete in a strong Eastern Conference?Tyler popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about legendary play-by-play voices, the new PWHL names, and how balanced the divisions are across the NHL.To wrap it up, they talked about the four playoff teams from last season in the Metro. Which one has the best chance of missing this season? Who deserves to be the favourite to win the division? They hit on those questions while breaking down the Islanders, Capitals, Hurricanes, and Rangers.1:35 - Unsigned free agents2:55 - Blue Jackets preview8:50 - New Jersey Devils22:00 - Philadelphia Flyers32:30 - Pittsburgh Penguins41:20 - Buy or Sell49:25 - Washington Capitals55:30 - New York Islanders1:00:40 - Carolina Hurricanes1:05:45 - New York RangersWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Jason and Frank are back! After a summer hiatus, the boys returned to begin covering their fifth NHL season together on The DFO Rundown. Today’s pod began on a somber note as they remembered the lives of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau. The two tragically lost their lives last week and the last few days has seen some very touching tributes from the Blue Jackets and Flames organizations.Frank, who is from the same area as the Gaudreaus, explained the special connection that the local community has to the brightest star they’ve ever produced. They then got into some of the big transactions that have occurred over the last few months. They started with the Leon Draisaitl extension in Edmonton. The superstar forward is committing to spending the remainder of his prime with the Oilers and while the number is significant, both Frank and Jason explained why this signing isn’t a big surprise and what this means for the future of his “ride or die” Connor McDavid. That then led them to the Seth Jarvis extension in Carolina, which came with a unique structure as it featured deferred money. Could this become a trend in the NHL? Frank had some insight into that. They also hit on the Patrik Laine trade, the Jeremy Swayman contract negotiations, and Tyler popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank.0:15 - Personal summer recaps6:32 - Remembering Johnny & Matthew Gaudreau17:30 - Draisaitl extends in Edmonton28:50 - Jarvis takes deferred money39:40 - Fill in the Blank (Laine deal, Sharks get Askarov, no extension for Crosby)47:05 - Swayman & the RFAsWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank and Jason are back after taking a few weeks off to enjoy their summers. While news hasn’t come in at any sort of rapid pace, there have still been some big stories that have dropped over the last two weeks and the guys wanted to pop on the podcast to break everything down.To start the show, they talked about what they’ve been up to so far during their summer breaks and both of them have been dialled into the 2024 summer games. They talked about their favourite events so far and Gregor talked about trying to do a little bit of diving on his own.To kick off the hockey talk, they dug into what’s been going on in Philadelphia so over the last week or so. After months of uncertainty, Matvei Michkov finally landed on American soil and will be with the Flyers for next season. It will no doubt give the team a big boost but Frank says that fans needs to be cautious when it comes to their expectations of the young Russian forward. GM Danny Briere also extended Travis Konecny, giving the forward an eight-year deal. Both Frank and Jason like the player, but did the Flyers pay too much for what his ceiling is?From there, they got into another Eastern Conference team that has been making moves: the Columbus Blue Jackets. They’ve signed a handful of young players and also filled their Head Coaching vacancy by hiring former Wild Head Coach Dean Evason. Can the team take a step forward next season? Or will there be more pain coming in Ohio? The other big story that broke last week was up in Edmonton, where the Oilers announced that Stan Bowman will be their new General Manager. This was a controversial decision by the Oilers and Frank wanted to explain why he thinks Bowman deserves a second chance.Tyler also popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he talked about the trade market, Patrik Laine’s future, and coaching hot seats heading into next season.6:05 - Flyers make moves (Konecny, Michkov)15:55 - Blue Jackets hire Evason18:50 - Bowman lands in Edmonton28:50 - Fill in the Blank (Laine, Necas, coaching hot seats)Want to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team?
