The first trade targets list of the season has dropped and that means it’s officially time to start talking about what big moves we could see this year! Frank and Jason went through some of the more intriguing players on the board and which ones are more likely to move than others.Before they dug into that, they talked about the Nashville Predators and their continued struggles. Last night, they were assessed a minor penalty for not icing the proper starting lineup and wound up getting shutout by the Seattle Kraken. That led to the guys talking about the playoff picture in the West and which teams will find ways to stay in the conversation this year and who could fall out in the next few months.They then got into the trade talk and dug into Frank’s list. They started with Joel Farabee who is on the board even though he has three more years on his current deal. Frank believes he has 35+ goal potential and he just needs to be put in the right situation.They also talked about Michael Matheson, who Gregor thinks is the most intriguing defenseman on the board. Is it smart for the Habs to move on from their best defenseman though?They also had a long conversation about Blue Jackets forward Mathieu Olivier. Jason and Frank are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown to recap what was a wildly eventful weekend in the NHL. To start, they talked about Alex Ovechkin’s ridiculous production. The 39-year-old is on pace for 111 points and his projected date to pass Wayne Gretzky for the most goals of all time is getting closer and closer.The Capitals have been red-hot so far this season and it’s not just Ovechkin driving things. Frank is back from the GM Meetings and has some notes on what was discussed as some of the most influential minds in hockey got together. Frank was in attendance for the induction ceremony and talked about why this weekend is one his his favourites. The one quote that dominated headlines this week was Predators GM Barry Trotz saying that if his team doesn’t turn it around he will start looking at his rebuilding plans. Things are ugly in Nashville after they spent more than any other team this offseason, can it turn around soon? They gave their thoughts.They then got into another struggling team in the West. The Anaheim Ducks were hoping to step out of their rebuild and start pushing for a playoff spot with their young core but it is not going to plan. To begin an all new edition of The DFO Rundown, Jason and Frank talked about a pair of teams that are currently fighting through some pretty big injury problems.For the Colorado Avalanche, the sheer number of players they’re missing is the problem. With the likes of Ross Colton, Arturri Lehkonen and Jonathan Drouin joining Gabriel Landeskog and Valeri Nichuskin on the injured reserve, they’re basically missing everyone in their top-six with the exception of Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon. Can Jared Bednar and company get through this stretch without putting themselves too far behind in the Central Division?The Oilers are only dealing with one injury but it’s a big one as they’ll be without Connor McDavid for the next 2-3 weeks. Hockey season is finally here. The offseason is over and after a few games in Europe to begin the season, the other 30 teams in the league are ready to start their regular season campaigns. To kick things off, Frank Seravalli flew to Utah where the first game in franchise history will take place tonight. They talked about the change that the players are going through this season after moving from Arizona and also, how committed Utah’s ownership and management is to making sure this is a long-term success.From there, they went out East where they talked about the Tampa Bay Lightning. Of course, Tampa Bay and Utah linked up for a big trade this summer as Utah acquired Mikael Sergachev from the Bolts. Frank thinks one of these two teams will make the playoffs and Gregor doesn’t think that bold prediction is that much of a reach.We also got some big news over the weekend as the Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman agreed to terms on a long-term deal just in time for the teams first game. It got ugly, but they found common ground. Did either side come out of this a winner? Or is it a fair deal?They then got into the first two games of the NHL’s regular season, which saw the Buffalo Sabres fall to 0-2. With October knocking at the door, Jason and Frank wrapped up their division previews by breaking down how they expect things to play out in the Pacific Division.They started off at the bottom of the division, where last season was miserable for the likes of San Jose and Anaheim, but there are reasons for optimism heading into the 2024-25 season. The Sharks of course had the first overall pick and will have Macklin Celebrini in the lineup when the season begins. On top of that, GM Mike Grier added a handful of veterans over the course of the offseason. Frank and Jason talked about how much they think the Sharks can improve this season.The Ducks on the other hand were trying to take a step last year and it didn’t happen. Can this year be different?They then got to the next tier, which features the Seattle Kraken and Calgary Flames. They both finished tied with 81 points last year but after the offseason, they seem to be going in different directions. The DFO Rundown division previews continued to roll on and today, the guys zeroed in on the Atlantic Division. For the last few seasons, the division has been relatively top-heavy with a handful of legit Stanley Cup contenders and the rest of the division trying to step out of rebuilds. Will the 2024-25 season feature more of the same? Or can one of the bottom four teams finally take a big step forward?They kicked things off with the Montreal Canadiens, who didn’t have a crazy summer by any means but their roster does look pretty different. On top of acquiring Patrik Laine from the Blue Jackets, they’ll be welcoming back Kirby Dach, who missed most of last season with an injury and they could have Lane Hutson in the lineup. Frank thinks the Habs could really surprise people.The Ottawa Senators are certainly facing more pressure to get back into the playoffs. The Senators should finally be getting good goaltending.The Sabres and Red Wings have both been trying to get out of their rebuilding phase for a few seasons now and if it doesn’t work this season, you have to wonder if major changes will be coming. Today, Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli continued their division preview series with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown. Today’s episode focused on the Central Division, which saw a handful of teams that made some major offseason changes.Before they got into that, they welcomed a new partner into the show: Fountain Tire. Jason and Frank are back! After a summer hiatus, the boys returned to begin covering their fifth NHL season together on The DFO Rundown. Frank and Jason are back after taking a few weeks off to enjoy their summers. While news hasn’t come in at any sort of rapid pace, there have still been some big stories that have dropped over the last two weeks and the guys wanted to pop on the podcast to break everything down.To start the show, they talked about what they’ve been up to so far during their summer breaks and both of them have been dialled into the 2024 summer games. They talked about their favourite events so far and Gregor talked about trying to do a little bit of diving on his own.To kick off the hockey talk, they dug into what’s been going on in Philadelphia so over the last week or so. After months of uncertainty, Matvei Michkov finally landed on American soil and will be with the Flyers for next season. It will no doubt give the team a big boost but Frank says that fans needs to be cautious when it comes to their expectations of the young Russian forward. GM Danny Briere also extended Travis Konecny, giving the forward an eight-year deal. Both Frank and Jason like the player, but did the Flyers pay too much for what his ceiling is?From there, they got into another Eastern Conference team that has been making moves: the Columbus Blue Jackets. They’ve signed a handful of young players and also filled their Head Coaching vacancy by hiring former Wild Head Coach Dean Evason. Can the team take a step forward next season? Or will there be more pain coming in Ohio?The other big story that broke last week was up in Edmonton, where the Oilers announced that Stan Bowman will be their new General Manager.
