It’s Halloween weekend, and nothing is scarier than the possibility of a socialist gaining power over America’s biggest city.   On Tuesday, millions of New Yorkers will have the opportunity to choose the future they want for the Big Apple. Democrat Socialist Zohran Mamdani, Republican Curtis Sliwa, and Independent Andrew Cuomo are all running to be New York’s next mayor. If the polls are even close to accurate, Mamdani, a candidate who has made promises to freeze rent and introduce government-run grocery stores, will be the next mayor of New York City.   In addition to the Big Apple, voters in Virginia and New Jersey are choosing their next governors on Tuesday. Jessica Furst Johnson, a partner and co-chair of the political law practice at Lex Politica, joins “Problematic Women” this week to break down each election and assess who ran the best campaign.   Also on today’s show, President Donald Trump has just returned from Asia, where he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. We explain the big takeaways from the trip and what the future could hold for U.S.-China relations. Plus, Americans have just celebrated Halloween. For the past half decade or more, conservative intellectuals have tried to answer the question: Where did woke come from?  Some believe it is rebranded cultural Marxism. Others say it came from academia with the postmodern rejection of objective truth ultimately leading to the weaponization of culture. Maybe it came from the global corporations because woke is the ideology of the new managerial elite in late-stage neo-liberalism. But perhaps “woke” and its offspring like “cancel culture” came from something called “The Great Feminization.”  Helen Andrews, author of “Boomers: The Men and Women Who Promised Freedom and Delivered Disaster,” recently wrote an essay called “The Great Feminization,” a term borrowed from the pseudonymous online writer J Stone, that explains how “woke” is “an epiphenomenon of demographic feminization.” She joins “The Signal Sitdown” this week to discuss. “We had a big fight called feminism in the 1970s over whether or not we thought women could be lawyers. Autumn in Virginia and lawns are covered with two things, multicolored leaves and multicolored political yard signs. Young people go door knocking for candidates and even younger people go apple picking. The two worlds come together on the hills of southern Albemarle County behind a fence lined with American Flags at a winery with a familiar name, Trump. 10 years ago when his father announced that he was going to run for the Republican Party nomination he turned the reins of the Trump Empire over to his 31 year-old son and since then the family has been front page news and amongst the scrutiny they have quietly turned their winery into one that routinely wins awards across the winemaking industry and are considered one of the top destination inns in the country. He has chronicled the whole thing in his new book “Under Siege” and we caught up with the First Son at the Cidery and talked about all of it. Democrat Maine senatorial candidate Graham Platner claims that he didn’t know he got a Nazi tattoo in 2007 while serving as a U.S. Marine, saying on “Pod Save America” that he was “very inebriated” and “chose a terrifying skull and crossbones off the wall because we were Marines and skulls and crossbones are a pretty standard military thing.” “The Democrats are in a quandary. He was going nowhere. And then a group of insiders, politicos, donors, the media panicked because they knew that to nominate a Elizabeth Warren, a Pete Buttigieg, especially a Bernie Sanders, would destroy the Democratic ticket. “So, they cooked up this idea that Joe Biden from Scranton—even though they knew he was already cognitively challenged—could be a veneer, a wax effigy. And then they did not allow him to campaign because we know what happens when he campaigns, as we saw in 2024. “He sat in the basement under the pretext of COVID. He outsourced his campaign like a royal monarch to his underlings in the media. They got him elected. Vice President JD Vance is “scarier in certain ways” than President Donald Trump, according to former White House press secretary Jen Psaki.     Vance is “young” and “ambitious,” Psaki said on the leftist political podcast “I've Had It,” adding that the vice president is “agile in the sense that he is a chameleon who makes himself into whatever he thinks the audience wants to hear from him.”     Psaki also took a swipe at first lady Usha Vance, indicating she might not be happy in her marriage.     “I always wonder what’s going on in the mind of his wife,” Psaki said. “Like, are you OK? Please blink four times. Come over here. We’ll save you.”    While in Israel with the first lady, Vance was asked about the comments and called them “disgraceful,” adding, “but of course, the second lady can speak for herself. I am very lucky to have a wonderful wife.”    Psaki’s comments on Vance are telling. The next presidential election is over three years away. While President Donald Trump did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize this year, he could be the odds on favorite to win the distinguished award in 2026 because of his work brokering peace deals or ceasefires in eight different conflicts this year.  Trump’s deal-making diplomacy comes as left-wing critics thought this level of success impossible because of Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s efforts to completely reform the State Department. The critics were wrong.  State Department Deputy Spokesman Tommy Pigott joins ⁠“The Signal Sitdown”⁠ to provide an inside look at the State Department overhaul and how Trump has managed to find pathways to peace all over the world. The Biden administration’s poor prioritization of America and its interests was painfully on display inside the State Department that Trump and Rubio inherited. Things were so bad, in fact, that Trump’s political appointees had a difficult time simply tracking down just how many people actually worked for the state department.
