As we progress in our careers, we work hard to achieve a "Senior Developer" position. But, once you get that position, then what? Chuck talks through the options you have an how to decide which ones you might consider and why.
People hire you because they believe that they'll get the work done they need for a price they like. Producing a podcast helps them become more comfortable that you can deliver on what you say you will. When making this kind of business decision, they'll often opt for the sure thing instead of the cheap option. Let's show you techniques for how to build trust by building a podcast.
Your microphone has a major effect on the way you sound on your podcast. Some people think that you need an expensive one to sound your best, but if you're just getting started, you can get a terrific mic for less than $100. Charles Max Wood makes his recommendations: ATR2100x Samson Go Mic ElectroVoice RE20 Heil PR40 Heil PR30 (for women)
The Dream 100 is a method outlined in the book "Expert Secrets" by Russell Brunson. He explains that you find the influencers, blogs, podcasts, video channels, and social media groups that regularly put out news about the topics you're interested in. While Russell focuses on networking to build your business or content channel (Chuck agrees.) This also gives you a starting point for knowing what's moving in the community.
Chuck talks about what you need to start a podcast. He recommends basic equipment, website setup, and gives tips on picking a topic, recording, and reaching your audience.
Now that you've got your goals for the next 3 years, let's break them down into the things you can do right now to get to that place in 3 years. This is where you plan your workouts for the next 3 months. You plan the time you're going to spend on open source, learning, watching videos, etc. Chuck outlines the process he follows and recommends the book The 12-Week Year https://amzn.to/2NN3Q20
Charles Max Wood talks about the idea that you can't get what you want until you know what you want. He recommends that you plan to take a few hours and sit down and think about where you want to eventually end up. He outlines the areas of your life you should plan out. Brainstorm the big and even insane ideas and then pick and choose the ones that you'd really like that will fulfill you. Then plan out where you'd like to be in 3 years. This allows you to work backward from there. If you'd like to talk about your plans, schedule a call with Chuck at https://devchat.tv/nextlevel
