Diabetes freedom or diabetes reversal is so much more than what a finger prick blood test or continuous glucose monitor might be telling you. Without knowledge of why that reading is what it is how can you make progressive adjustments and changes to push on towards a life without diabetes in the future? Is there a way we can look at diabetes management within a framework of something that we're already familiar with? Here's how to do just that.Welcome to The Diabetic Rebellion podcast. In this podcast you'll get a better understanding about how diabetes has many different variables and how taking on one of those variables at-a-time is the best way of coping with overwhelm, making stable and consistent changes and helping to understand what is happening to produce the diabetes results that you're currently achieving.Finding diabetes freedom should be seen as a steady process that shouldn't be rushed because we're looking at reducing blood sugar, body fat and weight, cravings and emotional responses consistently over time so that they never come back. So diabetes is gone forever and we never need worry about any resurgence.Diabetes is about drawing a strategy and adapting and revising that strategy every week and month through reflection on what you've done or what you've missed - think of a weekly sales meeting, a monthly performance review and an annual general meeting. Finally, think about how these things are done best...in a group, with multiple inputs to cover things that individually we might miss. Using a health coach helps to stop these mistakes and make sure you reach your goals. A study in the New England Journal of Medicine states that the success rate of using health coaches to achieve your goals stands at over double in the short-term and that long-term maintenance is over eight times more likely from regular contact with a health coach - eight times!--I'm your host Rick Ashworth, a type-1 diabetic, MSc Psychologist and endurance athlete. Having travelled the world I came back home with a few slogan t-shirts and type-1 diabetes. That was 16 years ago and since then I've worked in social care, education and as a health coach and professional trainer working with competitive athletes to those overweight and struggling with nutrition and lifestyle. My main focus, drive and passion is coaching type-2 diabetes sufferers to reverse their diabetes and reach what I prefer to term as diabetes freedom - it's entirely possible, without going on any sort of restrictive diet, that you can reverse diabetic symptoms, come off all forms of diabetic medication and live a life free from complications and live your best life without sacrificing the things you love. Please visit https://thediabeticrebellion.com to enquire about how you can do this and start your journey to diabetes freedom. Will you learn the similarities between diabetes and climate change by listening to this podcast? You've not going to know if you don't listen now are you!Climate change is, well, kind of important. It's happening on our watch, beneath our noses, whilst we sleep and we really have no idea. I assume you're getting the crossover with diabetes. So, so (and did I say 'so') many people are walking around with no idea they have diabetes and no idea that ignorance is absolutely and without taking positive action against the symptoms of diabetes it will eat up our health and spit it out very much the worse for wear.Welcome to The Diabetic Rebellion podcast - it's going to be a blast..On this podcast you'll get a better understanding about how to take appropriate action to change the way you approach and understand your relationship with diabetes and, at least briefly, how this ties in with how we view climate change and how the two have a very similar psychology. In the Western world it has become normal to view our efforts against those of others, however, we all hit milestones and we develop at our own pace and, as far as diabetes is concerned, it serves absolutely no purpose to judge ourselves against others. We all have individual stressors, our jobs, family life and free time are all used in different ways and we all enjoy different foods and our bodies react to foods in very different ways. Diabetes is an individual disease and requires an individual approach, which is the key premise of The Diabetic Rebellion.I'm your host Rick Ashworth, a type-1 diabetic and MSc Psychologists and having travelled the world I came back home with a few t-shirts and type-1 diabetes. That was 16 years ago and since then I've worked in the social care sector with children from 0-16, I worked with competitive athletes, overweight parents and taught children to swim but my main focus, drive and passion is to coach type-2 diabetes sufferers to diabetes freedom. I can quite confidently say that it's entirely possible and without going on a restrictive diet that have proven to show that they do not do anything to lower the rates of diabetes diagnosis. Please visit https://thediabeticrebellion.com to enquire about a free and absolutely no obligation call on how to start the your journey to diabetes freedom and, still, in these lockdown times there is a 40% discount waiting for you on becoming a Diabetic Rebel. Plastics have been commonplace since well before I was born - longer ago than I'd like. They appeared without question, without thought to what they would eventually do to the planet. However, new research is beginning to cast a light on to what plastics are actually doing to us and not just the world we live on. These new studies are showing that our bodies are slowly filling with plastics residue, found in our organs and potentially causing a number of chronic diseases and, you guessed it, diabetes is right at the top of that list.Welcome to The Diabetic Rebellion podcast - it's going to be a blast..On this podcast you'll get a better understanding about how these plastics are getting into our bodies, why it's so concerning for our future health and that of the generations that follow and you'll also get a few tips about how you can cut down your plastics consumption to make a dent into the health of the world but to make a massive leap forward in your health and that of those around you. That, however, is only the first half of this week's show. In the second half of the show I go on a little rant about how we all our judging our health against the person next to us and why that's such a bad idea and will only make your life worse. This course of action is clearly understandable but it's not doing your physical or mental health any good at all and, though it's of huge importance to seek the advice and guidance of others, it's important to choose coaches and role-models who know how to live a healthier life, a responsible life (well, most of the time) and truly care about the well-being of others.- a quick disclaimer here that I do get a little carried away and swear a few times, I considered editing but I feel the emotion of the piece is better as is (apologies for any offence that might be caused).I'm your host Rick Ashworth, a type-1 diabetic and MSc Psychologists and having travelled the world I came back home with a few t-shirts and type-1 diabetes. Contemporary research debates the continued approach of diet and exercise on type-2 diabetes control and management #type2diabetes. The approach has been consistently inconsistent for more than 50 years, often with good initial results but then falling away within a month or two and leaving the patient in the same position, if not worse, than they were before.A rethink is required and, for me #thediabeticrebellion and many other practitioners, this has to be around the way we approach our own personal journey to #diabetesfreedom and how we understand why we make the choices we do. It's fine to receive education on diet and exercise but if we then sabotage or give up at the first hurdle then everyone has, essentially, been wasting their time #psychologyofdiabetesLet's peel back a few layers and make appropriate choices for us based on our history and understand why we make those decisions and how we can create consistency and reach diabetes freedom not for several weeks or a few months but for the rest of our lives #diabeteseducationPlease look me up at thediabeticrebellion.com or The Diabetic Rebellion on Instagram and Facebook for more information or to leave a comment.Thank you for taking an interest and supporting The Diabetic Rebellion #jointherebellion
Entrepreneur and public speaker Jim Rohn once said we are the sum of the five people we spend the most time with and might we be the diabetic product of that thought too?Don't worry, this podcast isn't about how to successfully ditch your friends, although I do believe we are definitely influenced and led by those around us but, rather, what five factors should we, perhaps, most spend our time doing to reach diabetes freedom? The five factors are exercise (yeah, big shock that one), water, carbohydrate (which, might come as a shock but I've got to have an angle to get you to listen somehow, right?), sleep and avoiding stress.Of course, you may feel I've missed something but if you stick to these principles I really don't see how you can fail to make good progress to lowering not only blood sugar but a myriad health factors that we all face through poor lifestyle habits - even if you just implement one to start with it will be well worth celebrating, so here's to your health and diabetes freedom!
Every muscle contraction releases myokines but what are these small proteins and what effect do they have within our cells and, farther, across our entire body? Do they hold the ability to help us control our diabetes and regulate not only our insulin sensitivity but our hormonal response to stress and exercise and, thus, give us even more chance to live a life of diabetes freedom?Of course, the answer to all these questions is a resounding yes and despite it being relatively new to research there is now a burgeoning number of studies that showcase how exercise effects our insulin sensitivity and how myokines are at the very centre of this. However, the final point is what exercise works best and, just like everything else just explained, this is looked into during the last few minutes of the podcast. As ever, the idea is to break all this down to make it easily understandable and, maybe, have a few laughs along the way - well, I enjoyed it and, hopefully, that means you will too.As ever, you can find The Diabetic Rebellion on Facebook and Instagram or, for more information and to enquire how The Diabetic Rebellion can help you live a life of diabetes freedom, please visit thediabeticrebellion.com Thank you for supporting the cause of eradicating diabetes.
It's long been held that exercise is good for overall health and is especially relevant to those with diabetes as it promotes weight loss, improves insulin sensitivity, leads to better sleep and eating habits and a whole lot more. So, why as health professionals have we been hammering on about reducing body fat through diet as the best diabetes intervention - has it worked? With diabetes numbers forever increasing and those diagnosed ever more reliant on medication that don't actually improve health but, rather, mask the continuing progression of the disease, is it not time for a new approach? Can we reach diabetes freedom by focusing on our muscles and doing what the body is physically designed to do? Recent studies are suggesting just that and, more than that, they are suggesting that resistance exercise can actually lead to better dietary adherence and far better long-term outcomes than merely focusing on diet, diet, diet, which, sadly, is not showing any marked improvement in the rates of newly diagnosed diabetes or any later reversal.Diet is phenomenally important but could resistance exercise be an even more powerful tool in getting to grips with the diabetes pandemic and lead to better outcomes and long-term complication free lives for the many millions currently suffering and scared for their health?
Boris Johnson missed the perfect opportunity this week to bring the nation together to fight against a common enemy but, instead, he chose to drop to the floor and show the world he could do a press-up. This enemy has killed more people this year than Covid-19 and has plunged over half of the nation's life expectancy to about the same as that of the Victorians. It's a grave situation but Boris managed to ignore the chance to help the country and show us just how ludicrous the phrase 'fit as a butcher's dog' really is - Prime Minister or not - the man's an idiot. Obesity is bankrupting the NHS and causing Boris to be unable to see his belt buckle. Diabetes is expected to reach 15 million within the next few years and neither diet plans nor higher taxes on processed foods have or will change the roll. The Diabetic Rebellion addresses the current situation and bleak outlook for the future, asks which circus the Prime Minister is joining when he leaves office and positions itself to help diabetes sufferers get back to a life of diabetes freedom.
The Keto diet has swelled in popularity in recent year and no more so for type-2 diabetes, where it is eulogised as the perfect diet for fast control and reversal for life. Many diabetes sufferers have found great results by using the diets and these are the ones that adorn websites and forums, extolling its use to the path of diabetes reversal and freedom. However, is the Keto diet the best diet for everyone? Does it bring diabetes reversal and freedom better than any other diet available? Finally, are there any drawbacks to its use and, clearly, can there be anything more important than what The Diabetic Rebellion sees in its use (I think the answer you're probably looking for here is 'no' but why don't you have a listen before making up your mind)? As ever, thank you for listening and taking an interest in The Diabetic Rebellion, you can find more information daily on The Diabetic Rebellion Facebook page where you can get in touch or go to thediabeticrebellion.com for an overview of the services offered and to find a way to get in touch and receive a call back and a free eBook that's on its way! Your health is always the top priority and if anyone can put up a good argument as to why my practices are wrong then I am forever willing to be educated further. The very best of health to you all, thanks for taking an interest, Rick
Right now diabetics have more choice than ever - there are diets by the dozen and new ones entering the fray left and right by the minute, there are new exercises; with some professing perfect health in as little as five minutes, but are any of these really going to produce the benefits promised and, more to the point, are any of them actually going to work for you? If everything worked as promised then why are the numbers of people suffering from diabetes increasing so drastically and why is the Western world getting more and more obese? The Diabetic Rebellion believes it's because people can't stick to unrealistic diets and exercise programs that promise instant results but have an ever increasing drop off rate from the first week. Could the answer be not to diet at all, not to try and run 5k, not to go to the gym? Diabetes reversal requires discipline and commitment but these are habits to learn and a process to understand to stoke motivation and eradicate diabetes, not for one month, but for life. Welcome to the first, unpolished, tarnished and non-perfected episode of The Diabetic Rebellion Podcast, much like diabetes reversal it's going to improve over time and learn from its mistakes - I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for listening.
