Description
The Different Stories Podcast is a collection of honest, open and sometimes candid conversations with people from a whole range of marginalised, under-represented and unheard groups who share their stories about feeling different from the mainstream, of feeling ‘other.’
By inviting them to share their stories of how they felt different, how they were treated differently and how they would prefer to be treated going forward, my intention is to give you an opportunity to walk a while in their shoes, to listen and learn and ultimately to make some small changes in your attitude and behaviour so that you become even more inclusive.
When we walk in others’ shoes, we start to understand and when we understand, the world becomes a kinder place.

In this episode of The Different Stories Podcast we to Deborah Henley talk about the importance of embracing individuality and self-expression rather than quashing it - of being who we are and seeing ADHD as a gift whilst acknowledging it’s challenges too. Following her parents’ separation and several years of expat life in Hong Kong, Deborah was sent to various boarding schools in UK. Moving from school to school, and having to adapt to each one, made her recognise her differences.
Now with a diagnosis of ADHD, which came in her early 40’s, she’s much better placed to make sense of both her struggles and capabilities.

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is a connective tissue disease with 13* different manifestations or types. The most common of these is the hypermobility type, with stretchy and fragile tissues creating havoc throughout the body and causing symptoms such as joint pain, digestive impairment, chronic fatigue, dizziness and palpitations. The others are extremely rare. In this episode, Holly Stone shares her story of living with the hypermobility type of EDS, how it was misdiagnosed for years and how that made her feel. Holly reminds any listeners who might have similar undiagnosed health struggles: ‘If you can’t connect the issues, think connective tissues!’
*Please note that in the audio recording, Holly refers to 12 different types. This was the case until just a few years ago when a 13th type was confirmed.
