Scott and Eric talk with Scott’s father, Cort, about his mission to Korea. Scott and Eric sit down with Harvey Greer for our season finale in this shortened second season. Harvey served in Germany in the early 50s, less than a decade after the end of World War II. Scott and Eric talk with Brooklyn about her mission to the little known islands of the Republic of Kiribati. While this was the first episode recorded for season 2 it has been released out of order. Scott and Eric sit down with James Stevens and speak with him about his mission to Canada. James is the oldest missionary which we have interviewed up to this point. Topics discussed include: serving amidst the Vietnam War; President Kimball ramping up mission work; having little idea of what a mission is because of not knowing many who have served; going to the mission home in Salt Lake City as opposed to the MTC; having to memorize the discussions; flying on an airplane over Idaho; serving in the mission office; teaching the Lamanites; making meals as a missionary; serving on an island; car accidents in the mission car and much more.
Scott and Eric sit down with Tommy Lowell and talk about his unique missionary experience. One day, Tommy will write a book about it entitled, "Two Farewells, One Homecoming." Topics include: being "worthy" to serve a mission; getting sent home from the MTC; serving a mission older than the norm; the seriousness with which you take the mission directly correlates with how many people you invite to open your mission call; being tall in Guatemala; serving as Christ did; drunks and missionaries; playing the drums in an Evangelical Church; baptisms in rivers; and much more.
Scott and Eric discuss many topics with Ashton about his mission in Brazil, including: MTC in Provo vs. MTC in Brazil, mission president rules, when to baptize and when not to baptize, trios of death, and Brazilian food.
In the season premiere of Season 2 of The Discussions, Scott and Eric sit down with Mason Horton to talk about his mission to Iquitos, Perú. Mason shares great stories about his mission and his time spent in the Amazon. However, Mason returns from his mission early because of reasons discussed in the episode. They discuss the ramifications of coming home early and how he has dealt with it as time has passed. While it is never ideal for a missionary to come home early for any reason, Scott and Eric discuss that we are never in a position to make judgement calls on such situations.
