The Thanksgiving 2018 Special! IGN.com's Tina Amini drops by to talk Red Dead Redemption 2, things she's thankful for, and most of California being on fire. Dr. Travis Hurst also drops by for another dose of Astro 101; we discuss things we're thankful for... like, really thankful for... things that have made it possible for humans to exist on Earth.
Pirates GM Neal Huntington drops by to say hello. How has baseball changed in his 11 years on the job? How has being a GM changed in his 11 years on the job? If Neal could change anything about baseball with the snap of his fingers, what would it be? We also say hello to LaKeisha Wolf, Exec. Director of The Ujamaa Collective. We get her feedback on Giving Tuesday, the importance of Triple Bottom Line companies, and her favorite Thanksgiving traditions. Dr. Hurst hosts another class of Astro 101; Magnetars are discussed in all their (weird) glory.
It's time to get to know some of the people who make Do-Goodery happen. This week, we're introduced to Mr. Adam Crowley, author of 'Adam Sans Xanax', and drive-time host on Espn Radio Pittsburgh (4-7p). Adam and I talk Steelers, death, anxiety, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, the state of our world, and the value in doing something about it. Also - Our Rationality segment this week takes us 100+ million miles away, and delivers to us something no humans have ever experienced before.
As a Christmas gift for the listeners, Dr. Travis Hurst and Rocco discuss time travel in Astro 101. We then get to know Matt Gajtka a little better. Matt is a member of the internal Do-Goodery.org team, and we spent an inordinate amount of time discussing his son's bowel movements. Also - The three greatest Christmas things are revealed.
In this New Year's Special, Rocco is joined by James Santelli, The (Value) Traveller. Rocco has recently booked a trip to Japan. James does his best to analyze Rocco's choices, in hopes of helping the listeners make smart travel choices. A great deal of Japanese video game music may or may not be featured.
James Fogarty, Exec. Director of A+ Schools drops by to talk about the current state of Education in America. Critical Thinking and Pink Floyd also featured.
Do-Goodery team member / Lawful Good alignment Matt Gajtka drops by to tease his upcoming hot pepper experiment. He also attempts to deny his status as a Lawful Good.
TV's Christina Ochoa (A Million Little Things, Animal Kingdom, etc.) is much more than an actor. She's a Science Communicator, a Mensa member, a descendant of a Nobel Prize Winner, and an active Philanthropist. https://oceana.org
(Former) KDKA-TV News Producer Mike Telek joins us to discuss his decision to assume some risk and make a joke... and the firing that resulted from said joke. He's now turning his newfound fame into Do-Goodery by donating all the money he's received (from well-wishers) following his firing.
It's my 57th birthday, so I do what I want. Dr. Travis Hurst drops by to discuss a rogue Quasar / the meaninglessness of life, and Mrs. DeMaro makes her DG Podcast debut.
We're visited this week by YouTube star, 'Currently Hannah'. She's an Aussie vlogger living in Japan, and her work is excellent. We discuss travel, Boobs in Thumbnail images, and I make a fool of myself proclaiming 'Thirsty Dudes' to be Aussie slang. I was once cool, I promise?
This week, we Get to Know another Do-Goodery team member; Mrs. Amy Paffrath (author of 'Amy's Do-Goodery in Hollywood')! Her husband, Drew Seeley, was also kind enough to join us, as we discussed the impending addition to their family (Amy is pregnant). What follows is a very fun convo involving Babies, TV's Mary Hart, and Dolphins. Befitting their performing arts background, there's even a sing-along!
Ben Lindbergh of The Ringer drops by this week. We talk about the unexpected intersection between Do-Goodery and the sport of Baseball. Ben has recently put together a really great 3-part series on the problematic nature of Scouting in baseball, and we use it to explore human bias, rationality, and lots more.
Rob Owen drops by the show. He's the TV Critic for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and a friend of the show. We bounce around quite a lot between Altruism / Ethics in Television and the greatest TV Theme songs of all-time. Kind of a freeform discussion, but with musical accompaniment. There's also an interpretive dance segment at the end.
Dr. Travis Hurst drops by the show this week to discuss the first-ever imaging of a Black Hole! Rationality, ftw. We discuss that celestial body, as well as the advancements necessary to image an object ~55 million light years (!) away. Mrs. DeMaro also pops in to discuss my stupidity, as I somehow gave myself frostbite last week.
This week, The Buzzsaw (Chris Adamski of Triblive.com) drops by to discuss whether the Pittsburgh Steelers properly valued character in the 2019 draft. If you missed it, the 2018 NFL season saw the Steelers miss the playoffs, in large part because two of their star players became problematic off the field. Did that turn of events impact the Steelers draft strategy in the 2019 Draft? Also - Chris recently had twins.
