Description

We are seeing an ever-increasing burden of chronic disease, primarily driven by our food and food system. This is perpetuated by agricultural, food, and health care policies that don’t support health. We need to rethink disease and reimagine a food system and a health care system the protects health, unburdens the economy from the weight of obesity and chronic disease, protects the environment, helps reverse climate change, and creates a nation of healthy children and citizens. This podcast is a place for deep conversations about the critical issues of our time in the space of health, wellness, food, and politics. New episodes are released every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. I hope you'll join me.

View Show Notes From This Episode Get Free Weekly Health Tips from Dr. Hyman Sign Up for Dr. Hyman’s Weekly Longevity Journal One of the many reasons I was drawn to Functional Medicine is that it’s the medicine of asking “why?” and looking beyond the status quo to reimagine health. When we use this practice to assess the metabolic diseases we see today, we can see we’re in an energy crisis. We’re wrapped up in a web of physiologic root causes, but also a web of policies, industries, and economic incentives impacting our health from the ground up. I loved discussing all this and more on this episode of the podcast with Dr. Casey Means.  We take a deep dive into: Why we need to reimagine the healthcare system and how to use Functional Medicine as a framework for asking “why?” Using metabolic health as a barometer for our challenges as a society  A stark reality: Every institution related to our health makes money off of sickness Combining advanced technology with our own awareness to take back control of our health Five affordable biomarkers of metabolic syndrome to start with  And so much more! Everywhere you turn, there’s sugar—from blended coffees to protein bars, drinks, dressings, snacks, and everything in between. Even seemingly “healthy” packaged foods often contain heaps of added sugar, and its impact has proven catastrophic for our mental and metabolic health. As the other white powder, sugar hijacks our brain chemistry, making us addicted, inflamed, sick, and depressed. But the good news is that most of the health issues that arise from eating too much sugar can be completely reversed in as little as 14 days. In today’s Health Bites episode, we’re exploring the research connecting sugar addiction to poor mental health and what you can do to clean up the excess sugar to reclaim your health and feel better, and more energized. Dr. Hyman. please allow your guest to be the star of the show! I think it was 12 minutes before she got a word on edgewise other than uh-huh. I was wondering if there is something clinically wrong with you.

Thank you for this! I have had so many vitamin D deficiency symptoms over the years, but no doctor has ever tested my vitamin D levels! After 15 years of symptoms, I started researching & discovered I should try taking Vitamin D & get my levels checked. So, I started taking Vitamin D & I started feeling better!!! I also went to the doctor, explained this, & asked for my vitamin D level to be checked. The doctor denied the testing & said that I don't need it checked & low vitamin D is not what my symptoms were from. I was floored. So I thank you for trying to get this information out there!! ✌️💛

I am currently taking T Colin Campbell's plant-based nutrition course and his opinion, as I am sure you know is very different. How do I listen to the advice of two respected doctors and understand which information to follow for my health. I would love to hear you two discuss this topic together.

Very informational but repetitive. I had to keep checking the time to make sure I hadn't accidentally skipped back to an earlier section.

I'm confused about this episode because it seemed like it was a bunch of clips from other episodes and the topic and guest speaker kept changing.

I have PCOS due to the usage of birth control. The list of side effects for women who are on birth control is astronomically long and hazardous to our health. I was so excited to hear this episode and she almost seems hesitant on Dr. Hymans way of living as an alternative way of treatment to PCOS.
