The Dodd Life

Follow our journey living in the Midwest! Doesn’t that sound exciting? It is! Restoring an old mansion near downtown Cincinnati and living the farm life like Ma and Pa Ingalls. We’re just storytellers, telling our story! And we love to make you laugh.

A Raisin in the Sun. A White's Creek Production, Revisited.

Season 3 of The Dodd Life has finally arrived! IN it, I talk to my former theatre students from White's Creek High School in Nashville, Tennessee.  Tiffany, Charles, Joseph and Shandale. We met in the fall of 2006, and now that I think about it, we did the show 13 years ago in November of that year and not in 2007 as we discuss in the episode. Another lifetime!  This was such a great year for Shine and me, moving to Nashville, a city  still untouched by bachelorette parties and airbnb rentals. Taylor Swift was pretty new on the scene and you could still show up at the Bluebird ten minutes before a show and possible get in!  Our school was out northwest of downtown Nash,  a school that sat alone in a pasture surrounded by the beautiful rolling hills of Tennessee.  I've stayed in touch with  the kids on Facebook of course,  but it was nice to sit down and chat.

The Dodds Take Dartmouth

Welcome to the longest road trip. New Hampshire my friends. Five days after we left Chicago and Holly at her dorm, the rest of us headed to New England. Stay tuned for the Chicago trip next, I had to LOCATE THE RECORDINGS! LOL and mainly, it's us eating with a couple bickers thrown in, but we made it, and as usual we love any trip to Chicago! It could not be more amazing that Holly lives there now.  In New England we decided to stay at a Hippie Haven on the way up. It was quirky, cool and well hippie like, in EVERY WAY. LOL Next came the Yurt in East Burke, then the college drop and Shine and Grace and I headed to Maine.   It's hard to put into words the feelings of the empty nest. I like to talk too much so I'm sure I'll find a way! LOVE you all and thanks for listening!

Pillow Talk

It's the thrilling second season of The Dodd Life.  Ma and Pa are exhausted but refreshed and exhilarated from the wonderful college send offs to dorm rooms that rival the Hilton. How does that happen? Times have changed since the olden days.  The glance at the southern coast of Maine was enough to keep them going for a couple years and spoiler alert, a peek at their future home state Vermont, helps even more.  Follow along as Grace Sticker Dodd competes this year as a level 10 and we check in with Holly and Mariama, and wait for it. Shawn gets his Ryan Gosling teeth. Don't miss it!

I'm in Love with my CAR

Some days are Diamonds, some days are stones... to quote my boyfriend John Denver.   The Dodds are spending so much time in the car., and the Dodds are all working overtime on everything, to prepare for the big send off! and subsequent vacation. I am grateful for the exhaustion, I will say that. I hope to one day be sitting on a nice beach with a martini in my hand wondering... "Do you think the kids want to come down for the week?"  So we must stay present. WE MUST enjoy the wild waves of life because one day soon we may shaking the sand out our bathing suit wishing that the house wasn't so quiet and that we could hear peeling laughter from the living room way past bedtime. On this episode, we find Robin at the Car Wash. Yes she's scared of them. And Yes, that's weird, I think. Grace discusses her new job at one of Cincinnati's greatest institutions. Skyline Chili. We talk gymnastics and no one knows where the other three are.... Please share our podcast with your friends and we would love it if you would subscribe and give us a REVIEW!

Christie and Robin take Columbus

Christie and I have been friends since 1986, no small feat. We met in the theatre department of Baylor University, during the John Hughes era, and LOVED being roommates.  Our favorite thing was to bicker in the mornings and later cry and hug and make up in front of the entire theatre department sometime later that day. We subscribed to drama. It was our everything back then.  We have always laughed alot together. Christie was born in Texas like me and was from the "Texas side of Texarkana" while I was born in Waco, and grew up in Fort Worth. We both NOW shockingly reside in Ohio, a place we never thought about in the 1980's. In the 90's, we both lived in New York City, in the same neighborhood, the Upper East side, and now as middle aged babes, we like to check in a few times a week, to help each other make it through the day to day.  Last month we decided to meet in the middle, Columbus, and survived rooming together yet again. * There are a few "choice" words so I wouldn't listen with little kids.

Texas Talk: Robin rambles on.

We talk to the littlest Dodd: Grace! AKA Glace, Graca, and Sticker.

Our youngest daughter Grace is our most practical  Dodd,  yet holds the record for the loudest and most joyful laugh. She loves ridiculous comedy, reality Emergency Room shows, ooh gross, the Office and Downton Abbey. You'll find her snuggling her puppies,  sleeping in the hammock , creating  art, along with a 25 hour a week workout in the gym, and enjoying a nice hearty plate of biscuits and gravy. We find Grace on the couch where she likes to nap, and ask her a few questions.

Last Saturday, many volunteers came together in the Avondale and Evanston neighborhoods of Cincinnati to Paint the Town! It’s been a decade since the non profit has been in the urban neighborhood of Avondale. We met some pretty cool folks. After a long day of painting, the Dodd girls and Sam discuss why Outlander is the show to watch..
