Yes, dreams do come true – and even better, the beer supports rescue dogs via The Dogist Fund! We teamed up with Torch & Crown, the only production brewery in Manhattan, to brew a hazy pale ale for dog lovers all over NYC. On this episode we sat down with our friend Chris McClellan to talk all things beer – Chris loves beer and rejoined the startup world two years ago at Torch & Crown Brewing Company at the beginning of 2020 as Marketing Director, spearheading commercial sales and marketing for the brewery. Today we’re diving into RESCUE MONTH. This month, we’ll be featuring four rescue organizations on The Dogist and our goal is to highlight an adoptable dog every single day for the month of October. The first organization we’re featuring is the Animal Care Centers of New York City.  Individuals from all over New York City come to the ACC every day of the week for reasons as diverse as reclaiming lost pets, adopting new furry family members and getting resources to help them keep their pets in homes. Our guest today is Katy Hansen, who is the Director of Marketing & Communications at the ACC. She joined in 2015 after having spent 20 years on Wall Street.
On today’s episode we’re featuring the amazing team at the Northeast Search and Rescue. Northeast Search and Rescue is a non-profit who’s volunteers offer their specialist search-and-rescue skills to bring home the lost, missing, and injured all over the tri-state area. Every year, their members donate an average of 10,000 hours to rescue operations and training. Their handlers, K9s, and technical rescue specialists are trained in live find, human remains detection, trailing, water detection, swift water rescue, grid search, disaster response, search management, and more, and respond to calls for assistance day or night, on land or water, in all weather. Head to The Dogist Fund page to donate to NESAR!
We sat down with Cristina Alcivar and Heidi Huebner to talk about airport therapy dogs around the country. Cristina Alcivar is the founder of Vane Airport Media, a Canadian media company that publishes the latest news about health and wellness airport services and amenities, and Heidi Huebner is the director of the PUP Program (Pets Unstressing Passengers) for Los Angeles World Airports. There are currently 87 North American airports that have implemented Therapy Dog Programs to enhance the passenger journey and experience, and today we’re going to learn all about how these programs enhance the lives of travelers.
We sat down with Rebekah Cross and Dan Weesner to discuss Guiding Eyes for the Blind, a non-profit that provides guide dogs to people with vision loss completely free of charge. Rebekah is both a graduate and an employee of Guiding Eyes, and joined the organization as the Special Gifts Officer in 2019 with her guide dog Regal. Dan is a qualified Guide Dog Mobility Instructor and has trained over 75 dogs.

In this episode we sit down with psychologist Dr. Katie Lawlor and veterinarian Dr. Alett Mekler to discuss the mental health crisis within the veterinary field in 2020 that resulted in a surge of deaths by suicide. If you're a vet interested in Dr. Lawlor's support group, please contact to sign-up for a 6-week group or an individual session. Shanti’s Veterinary Mental Health Initiative provides an empathetic and confidential space for vets to discuss how they are persisting through career-related challenges.
In part 2 of Kates story, we dive into her journey with exposure therapy, meeting her now-husband, how Waffle became a service dog and a VERY exciting announcement at the end of the episode!
We are kicking off Mental Health Awareness Month with Kate and her story with a decade-long, psychosis-inducing misdiagnosis and how dogs saved her life.

We sit down with our friend Henry from @keepingfinn and his brand new girlfriend Sydney from @divineontheroad to hear the story of how two best friends fell in love, all because of their dogs.

Bunny is currently participating in a larger study with the Comparative Cognition Lab of UCSD, and Alexis documents her progress for all the world to see.
We discuss our biggest dog park pet peeves and go over some basic do's and don'ts when it comes to etiquette around other dogs and dog owners.
