In this highly requested AMA, Dr. Gabrielle Lyon addresses the most critical questions surrounding male hormone health. Dr. Lyon tackles the fear, stigma, and misinformation surrounding Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT), revealing why a low testosterone level is a major predictor of serious health issues like heart disease, bone fracture, and obesity. She breaks down the current medical consensus on TRT, the risks of replacement, the truth about dosing, and what every man over 40 needs to know about their hormone health. This is a must-watch to separate the bodybuilding myths from the medical facts.Chapter Markers0:00 - Intro: Low Testosterone is a Predictor of Heart Disease1:12 - The Penile Shrinking Myth: What Caused the Viral Frenzy2:20 - Testosterone Levels: The Truth About Aging in Men3:44 - The First Step: What Labs to Ask Your Doctor for4:22 - Why Men Need to Check Their Estrogen (Estradiol)6:13 - The Medical Cutoff for Low T and Androgen Sensitivity7:27 - Low T is Linked to Fatigue, Depression, and Fat Deposition9:27 - TRT and Cardiovascular Health: Is it Protective or a Risk?10:36 - Erectile Dysfunction Predicts Heart Attack Within 3-5 Years12:30 - The Stigma: Why Doctors Don't Check Testosterone13:00 - TRT vs. Steroids: Defining the Line14:21 - Infertility and TRT: What You Must Know15:18 - Safety: What are the Risks of TRT for Men?16:33 - The Stigma: Why Doctors Don't Treat Low T17:15 - TRT and Obesity: Treat Concurrently or Wait?18:10 - Menopause vs. Andropause: Why Men Don't Have to Decline19:34 - Testosterone Boosters (Ashwagandha, Tongkat Ali)26:11 - Different Forms of Testosterone Administration28:09 - Intranasal Testosterone for Less Impact on Fertility30:38 - Managing Expectations: How Long Until You Feel Better?33:00 - TRT and Muscle Gain: The Highs and Lows of Dosing36:47 - The Win-Win: Low Risk, High Reward39:00 - Blood Flow & Erectile Function: Cialis and Exercise40:17 - Semen Quality as a Marker for Overall Male Health41:29 - Parenting and the Cost of Unhealthy Humans41:45 - How to Raise Testosterone Naturally (The Pillars)42:29 - Low-Dose Cialis for Cardiovascular Health (Preemptive Strategy)43:59 - Dr. Lyon's TRT Journey and Early Concerns46:00 - OutroKey Takeaways:Low Testosterone is a major health risk. Low T is linked to an increased risk of bone fracture, heart disease, obesity, and diabetes.TRT is often protective. Contrary to the long-standing myth, replacing low testosterone to a healthy range does not increase the risk of cardiac events. It is, in fact, protective against cardiovascular disease.Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is a canary in the coal mine. ED can predict a heart attack within 3 to 5 years.Men can maintain high T levels. Testosterone levels in a healthy 75-year-old can be just as good as in a man in his 20s.The solution is often concurrent. For an obese or overweight man with low T, concurrent treatment with TRT and a lifestyle intervention is often the most responsible approach to provide the motivation needed for weight loss.Low-dose daily Cialis (2.5mg to 5mg) may be a viable preemptive strategy for cardiovascular health due to its blood flow benefits. This episode is brought to you by:Manukora - Get $25 off your Starter Kit at https://manukora.com/DRLYON Our Place - Use Code DRLYON for...

In a powerful episode of the Dr. Gabrielle Lyon show, I sit down with my mentor, Dr. Donald Layman, to directly address some of the most common protein myths. We react to a controversial clip from the Huberman Lab podcast with Dr. Christopher Gardner, offering a different perspective on the conversation about protein intake, metabolic science, and dietary guidelines.Dr. Layman, a pioneer in protein research, breaks down the outdated science behind the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA), the flaws of nitrogen balance studies, and why a protein-conscious approach is crucial for your long-term health, not just for building muscle. This conversation is a must-listen for anyone who wants to cut through the confusion and understand what the science really says about protein, from its role in metabolism to why a grain-based diet may be leaving you deficient.Want ad-free episodes, exclusive takeaways, and direct access to community Q&As? In this groundbreaking episode, Dr. Gabrielle Lyon sits down with Dr. Tobias Kohler, a professor of urology at the Mayo Clinic, to discuss a topic most people are afraid to talk about: men's sexual health.Dr. Kohler shares eye-opening insights, backed by over two decades of clinical experience and research, on the powerful link between foundational health habits and male sexual function. They reveal why erectile dysfunction is a critical "check engine light" for heart disease and how building muscle and exercising can improve not just your erections, but your overall longevity. This conversation goes beyond simple fixes, providing actionable, science-based information that every man needs to hear.Looking to go deeper with The Dr. Gabrielle Lyon Show? He described it not just as a sexual problem, but as one of the earliest "check engine lights" for heart disease. The blood vessels leading to the penis are much smaller than those in the heart. As we age, plaque can build up in these vessels. This process, known as atherosclerosis, affects the smaller vessels first. This means if you're experiencing persistent issues with erections, it's a strong indicator that you may have vascular problems that could soon affect your heart. As Dr. Kohler put it, "If the penis is failing, you should assume you're going to have problems with your heart soon until proven otherwise." The good news is that anything good for your heart—like exercise and a healthy diet—is also good for your penis. The "Use-It-or-Lose-It" OrganThe conversation also tackled the surprising phenomenon of penile shortening. When the penis goes into a "garage" for an extended period—meaning there is a consistent lack of erections—it can lose length. Dr. Kohler shared that a consistent lack of erections for just three months can lead to a loss of 1-2 centimeters in length due to the formation of scar tissue. This is why he calls the penis a "use-it-or-lose-it" organ. The key to maintaining penile health is to exercise the penis through erections, and tools like a vacuum erection device can be used for penile

Muscle health isn’t just about how much protein you eat—it’s about how your body uses it. And for people with obesity or advancing age, that process can become less effective, even with optimal nutrition. In this episode, I am joined by Dr. Nick Burd, one of the world’s leading researchers in muscle metabolism, to unpack the concept of anabolic resistance—when muscle doesn’t respond normally to protein and/or exercise. Together, we explore how aging, obesity and even the way foods are combined on your plate can impact muscle remodeling, recovery, and growth. Dr. Burd also shares why plant-based proteins often fall short, why protein efficiency matters more than quantity, and how endurance and resistance training affect nutrient use differently. You’ll learn:What anabolic resistance is—and why it matters How to improve protein efficiency and muscle quality over timeWhy food matrix, and timing can change your resultsKey differences in nutrition strategies for endurance vs. strength athletesWhether you're focused on longevity, performance, or helping someone break through a plateau, this episode delivers the research-backed information you’ve been looking for.Who is Dr. Nick Burd? We have HaTs (hereditary alpha Tryptasemia) in our family. This gene expression produces MCAS-like symptoms. I've found Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique (NAET) to be essential for calming down my nervous system especially vis a vis certain foods that my body no longer tolerates. I encourage you to explore it for your patients!

Love this episode. He did such a good job explaining things! Dr. Lyon always does a great job of leading the discussion well. in the midst of almost fully agreeing with everything, I was very disappointed to find that his answer was so quick to be 'yes' on steroids. They should not be standard of care as was mentioned in the episode. Current research is placing them more and more squarely as being contraindicated. They even talked about how damaging they are and then just shuffled around it
Ferocious
wow I thoroughly enjoyed this podcast episode and I never thought that protein was so important especially in learning how to burn body fat I am a tree and I will continue my study and research and protein timing and adding protein to my lifestyle
