On this week’s episode DJ and Varun discuss the latest happenings in the world of cricket starting with DJ Bravo’s new song about M.S. Dhoni and the Panyda brothers’ social media fitness battle with Virat Kohli. We also talk about the restart of cricket with the West Indies tour of England kicking-off on 8 July and developments in Sri Lanka about fixing allegations around the 2011 World Cup final. The second half of the show is all about leg spin and is an interview with England Lions and Yorkshire cricket leg spinner, Josh Poysden. We talk about luck, the English first class system, how captains treat leg spinners, the best leggies going around today, Kuldeep, Chahal and how Josh bowled the ball of the 21st century in the 2018 T20 blast (link: Josh’s Cricinfo profile by George Dobell: You can follow Josh on Instagram and Twitter @JoshPoysden14 and @SpinBadger. This week we deal with the fall-out from the IPL GOAT XI episode as Varun (46%) gloats about his win over Ashwin (41%) and DJ (13%) in the Twitter poll pitting the podcasters teams against each other. We then move on to the keenly contested Listener IPL GOAT XI contest which was won by Ajinkya Patwardhan, who saw off very tough competition from Sreekar’s team. Congratulations Ajinkya! Test cricket is going to be back on our screens pretty soon with England playing the West Indies on 8 July so we are all looking forward to this. In the meantime, Pakistani players seem to playing COVID test roulette! The second half of the show is an interview with cricketer and AFL player Guy Walker, who has played cricket for Australia under-19 and has represented the Melbourne Renegades in the BBL. Stay tuned for the awesome Kohli sledging story! Podcaster poll: Listener teams and poll: Ajinkya’s video explaining his IPL GOAT XI: Guy Walker’s profile:
The Edges & Sledes gang goes back to its roots. With no guests on this episode, it’s no holds barred! We start with an update on what’s been happening with us since Lockdown started. We talk a little about our favourite guests on the podcast, what we have missed/not missed about the show and also call out a couple of other podcasts (TPSE, Lessons Learnt and Cricket Zone). On a more sombre note, we discuss the Darren Sammy racism issue and the untimely passing of Sushant Singh Rajput. The second half is absolute mayhem when all of us of them pick our IPL GOAT XI with a limit of four overseas players. -Why is there no Universe Boss in Varun’s team? -Why does Ashwin pick Rohit Sharma and has Suresh Raina ever batted at 5? -Why are the Pandya brothers even being spoken of by DJ in the same breath as Russell and Dhoni? And why is there no MS Dhoni in DJ’s team? Things get heated and the banter is non-stop! Write in with your comments/objections/rants and let us know what you think of the idea of a live IPL draft. We also discussed his views on split captaincy and some great stories from the 1997 Sharjah Cup on how he had to set the field as a captain against Sachin Tendulkar. Adam shared his views on how England changed their ODI set up from 2015 to 2019 to become world champions and his thoughts on current Indian cricketers such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah. Nick talks to us about his formative years in South Africa, moving to England as a fifteen year old schoolboy and the influence of his famous grandfather Denis Compton. After speaking briefly about his county cricket days at Middlesex and Somerset, we focus mainly on the famous 2012 tour of India where Nick made his test debut. England won the 2012 test series 2-1 and Nick tells us some great stories of that series, including about taking guard for the very first time and (separately) being sledged by Virat Kohli. We talk about Nick’s love for India as a country, what it felt like when he scored his first test hundred and also his love for photography. After the initial introductions are straightened out, they move on to Vish’s transition to sports writing, the effect of COVID-19 on cricket (financial, mental, fitness) and what cricket is likely to look like when it resumes after the pandemic. He is also currently playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. We get some great anecdotes from Jaydev about his test debut and playing under M.S. Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. We also ask him to tell us more about the characters in the Rajasthan Royals dressing room and the toughest overseas batsman he has bowled to. We then move on to his thoughts on the mankading controversy from IPL 2019, sledging stories, captaining Saurashtra to a Ranji Trophy win and his bromance with Cheteshwar Pujara. DJ, Varun and Ashwin are back and in this age of no live cricket, they have given themselves the unenviable task of picking India’s all time greatest teams. The first half is all about the test game, whereas the second half is ODIs. The debate gets heated. Tough questions are asked including: -Why does DJ drop VVS Laxman from his test XI halfway through the show? -Why does R Ashwin make Varun’s GOAT XI but not play India's next test? -Why is Viru in the ODI GOAT XI for both Varun and Ashwin? -Does Bumrah make the cut in tests or ODIs? -Do all our podcasters have way too much recency bias? Each podcaster's teams are available at Got a better team? Who makes your XI? Write in to us and let us know.
Ashwin and Varun are joined for a very special conversation with Jarrod Kimber - journalist, author, commentator, filmmaker, and much more. Jarrod shares his journey with the game of cricket, from the early days of being part of a cricketing family, to his journey creating Cricketwithballs, eventually to an illustrious career with ESPNCricinfo. He then talks about his experience creating Death of a Gentleman, a 2015 Cricket Documentary about the big 3 countries and their role in the ICC. He shares some great anecdotes about Lalit Modi as well. As an extra surprise, Jarrod Kimber shares some great anecdotes about Rahul Dravid too! Be sure to tune in. DJ is joined this week by Varun and Ashwin, who are both recording from their Delhi home. First up Ashwin gives an update on Varun’s exploits in their gully cricket tournament (or lack thereof). They then discuss the various cricket cancellations this week and IPL 2020 being suspended/postponed by the BCCI because of the Coronavirus pandemic. Of course, Sanjay Manjrekar’s sacking from the BCCI commentary panel comes up - was there any political motivation behind the decision? Also a new Amazon Prime documentary called “The Test” is recommended with a focus on how the Aussies view King Kohli. The second half of the podcast is a great chat with Gulu Ezekiel, author and cricket journalist. On Gulu’s podcast debut, Gulu and DJ discuss his days of covering domestic cricket, the recent Ranji Trophy final (between Saurashtra and Bengal) and his favourite cricketer across the decades. They also discuss his collection of 1500 cricket books and his upcoming books on Indian cricket - “Speed Merchants” and “Mythbusters” - before wrapping with some book recommendations. You can find Gulu on Twitter and can ask him for a full list of his collection here Ashwin bowling v Varun batting IPL 2020 options and update - Sanjay Manjrekar off BCCI panel Twitter debate with Cricketingview

They also analyse the team’s performance over the course of the tournament, including the positives to emerge for a young Indian team.
