I was five years old, and remember getting a Walt Disney World mini comic book on a trip from Florida to Connecticut that year. I was always fascinated by it. In the pantheon of all arcade games- few can hold the title of a game that defined a genre of gaming- before there was a word for it. As Pac- Man did the year before for the maze chase- Donkey Kong defined the platformer. The game also defined a companies direction, and the game's protagonist- Jumpman- became Mario, and would lead the fledgling video game company to so much success for decades to come.
