Tony Pence is a rather infamous figure of the Baltimore punk scene. Through his record store, Tony has helped lay a fingerprint on the pulse of what is being spun by its Baltimore residents. On this episode, we sit and talk about things that happened before I was born. We also discuss expanding his record store, comic books, not working a regular job, Japanese punk, the infamous Reptilian Records, and so much more. I’ll have to sit down with Tony again to cover more stuff.
We have finally reached our 10th episode! At my leisurely rate, we might have 15 by next year. Anyway, we celebrate this milestone by sitting down with Stephen St. Germaine for our longest interview to date. You might know him from his band Peace or remember him from his former outfit known as The First Step. Stephen stops by the studio to discuss being the biggest jock ever, college basketball, his upbringings, his start towards Buddhism, the politics of being a teacher, his parent’s and his own divorce, and he gives us the chances of a First Step reunion. We hope you enjoy!
Happy holidays everyone. We’re celebrating the end of the year with one of the best current bands from the area, Wildhoney. Joe and Zach stop by the studio and school me in acceptable shoegaze, being old in college, awkward moments with classmates, moving from Columbus, OH, unfavorable comparisons in reviews, and so much more. As always, this is available on iTunes. Wildhoney bandcamp: http://wildhoneysound.bandcamp.com/
The End of Silence is back, and we sit down with DC resident Garybird. Gary and I discuss an array of topics including growing up with sketchy DC punks, what led to Gary hating Baltimore, being a hostile front man, coming from money, and what bands he still backs. Gary also does commentary over a Skrewdriver song… I’m not going to even try to explain that one. Zak the Soundguy also stops by to discuss our hometowns.
The End of Silence is back for the second week in a row! We finish up our two part Connecticut series with Mr. Greg Horbal of the commonly ellipsed “The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die.” We sit down at TES HQ and discuss discovering punk through Dragon Ball Z, the life and times of a booking agent, taking the band seriously, and so many more topics. Also, Zak the Sound guy is back from Africa, and we catch up, as well as discuss the economic facets that go into a Pokemon universe.I mention S.M., a band I put out recently in the intro, as well as the music played before and after the interview. On this week’s episode, we sit down with Mr. CMAR. Another alumni of the 1017 house, we discuss weight lifting culture, an expansive history of his musical endeavors, music from Connecticut, and so much more.
The End of Silence is back from its GRE hiatus, and to welcome us back, a great friend in Sean O’Donnell. I sit with Sean and discuss and variety of topics including punk pre and post Nirvana, growing up in Central Pennsylvania, the Misfits, getting hitched, starting a family, and so much more.
This week, we are featuring the Baltimore rock band Big Mouth. We sit down with Angie and Emily and discuss their high school ventures, being labeled as a female fronted band, how they deal with criticism, and so much more. Also, Zak the soundguy stops by to talk about the experience had with John Joseph of the Cro Mags.
This week, we sit down with Ned Russin, bassist of Title Fight. We discuss the history of Title Fight’s shows in Baltimore, the importance of geography, the Russin musical family, and so much more. Zak the Sound Guy stops by, as well, and we talk about where we were during 9/11. This episode begins a new segment entitled, “Your favorite misogynist song.”
On this episode, I sit and talk with Nick Heitman, bassit of Angel Du$t and owner of Baltimore record label Photobooth Records. We have a nice talk about growing up in the same part of town, flunking out of college, women, sex, Swervedriver, and so much more. I had a bit of an editing snafoo with this when we were talking about Agnostic Front, but the point is still made very clearly. Also, Zak the sound guy stops by and we talk about our worst dates.
For our inaugural episode, I sit down with my good friend and roommate Andy Norton. We sit back in our living room and discuss growing up in Void country (that’s Columbia, MD), the stigma of anti depressants, being a “fest band,” and so much more.
