This is the audio version of my 2018 Fatbike Birkie Race Report. This is recorded almost a year after the original report was written and less than 2 weeks out from the 2019 race. It's short with a couple extra thoughts that I added regarding some things I wrote in the original report. Enjoy!

This is the audio version of the race report from my first American Birkiebeiner ski race. This was also my first ski race while still being very new to skiing, so you're getting this from the perspective of a newbie skier.

I had Todd Poquette back on the podcast to talk about what the whole "Doing The Hard Things" means, which spawned the title "Doing The RIGHT Things". Todd shared a lot of great thoughts and gave us some insight into how and what is happening with the 906 Adventure Team. Todd also shared a very personal story that he hasn't shared with too many people, but thought it would offer some insight as to why he does what he does. Listen to the whole thing, there is something there for everybody.

This Polar Roll Podcast Race Report is a little different than past ones... I started it off by having Todd Poquette on to talk about the race, it's history and some of the behind the scene details. We also talk about some of the other races Todd has going on with some good discussion before I jump into my race report. Let me know what you think of this format and I will see if I can get some other race directors on in the future for some discussion leading into my race report. Thanks for tuning in!

It was fun getting back to some racing at the Cyclova XC Solstice Chase Fatbike race a couple weeks ago! I wasn’t sure if I was going to be racing or not, since the shop that I just took part ownership of (Cyclova XC) actually runs the Solstice Chase race. We have an awesome crew with Steve Clark, who will be co-managing the shop with me and is also our race and event director for Cyclova XC, had everything under control for the event. I was out there early in the morning doing some final course marking and hauling the stuff out for the aid station, but was able to wrap up in time to jump in the race myself. Listen in...!

Welcome Jerome Dionne to the Endurance Path Podcast...!
Jerome originally got into mountain biking in the 80s and is back at it for round 2. We talk about Jerome's major weight gain after 2 years in the US and too many trips to Taco Bell. Jerome compares some racing he has done in Canada vs the US and then we dive into preparation for the Marji Gesick 100. We talk about a hole bunch of stuff, including endurance training, gear & equipment, the upcoming fatbike season, etc... all while Jerome throws some questions my way for some good open discussion. It's a bit of a longer episode, but we talk about a whole bunch of topics... So fire this one up over a couple commutes and enjoy!
BTW, would love some feedback on this type of an episode. If you like the open and sometimes random discussion, then I might bring some guests on just for that purpose. Hit me up and let me know. Enjoy!
Listen in to Jerome Dionne and I cover a whole lot of topics...!

Mark spent most of his spare time in High School playing video games, but after getting a chance to ride a mountain bike down some singletrack... he was hooked on mountain biking. Mark just started getting out on the trails and having some fun. He kept trying new things, challenging himself and quickly signed up for some races. Mark has raced just about everything at this point related to mountain biking; including Enduro, College race series, Endurance, Elite XC and even earned his Pro Racing License. Mark is a great example of somebody that is just getting out there, taking on some big challenges and having a lot of fun doing it.

Another guest episode of the Endurance Path podcast...! Welcome Eric Olson to talk about going from his first 2 mile run to finishing his 100th marathon.
Eric went for a couple mile run one night after work and decided to keep at it. It didn't take long for him to sign up for some races and the marathons started stacking up... Fast forward to the 2017 Twin Cities Marathon and Eric Olson checked off his 100th marathon, but not his last.
I reached out to Eric after hearing about him completing his 100th marathon, to see if he would come on the podcast and share his story. I really enjoyed talking with Eric and I know you'll enjoy hearing his story. Eric is another example of how you never know what you can accomplish until you get out there and get active. Eric now directs his own race, the Gandy Dancer Trail Marathon and coaches his local High School's cross-country track team.
Listen in as Eric shares some great stories, while we discuss his past experiences and what he has planned for the future...

First guest on the Endurance Path podcast...! John Petrylak
John was nearly 240 lbs when he realized he needed to make some changes. He was getting active again when some buddies invited him to join them on a 4 person team for a 24 hour mountain bike race. John was hooked on the bike at that point... Fastforward to 2017 and John Petrylak wins the (NUE) National Ultra Endurance Marathon Race Series.
John walks us through his progression, we talk a little bit about loosing weight, training and touch on quite a few different races. We also discuss the difference between racing the 100k Marathon distance races and the 100M Epic distance races. John has had success in both. We also talk about the community around mountain bike racing and making new friends in the sport.
John shares his sponsors with us, including talking about his coach Jeremiah Bishop and his local shop Bike Factory of Charlottesville that goes beyond the extra mile to keep his bikes rolling and John on the race course. No doubt, John's bikes get a lot of abuse with the amount of racing he's been doing and distances he's been racing.
