In the wake of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, what is the impact and the implications for K-12 public schools? As politicians and one member of the high court call for the rescinding of other rights previously granted to public education and public school students, how is instruction, standards, funding, and discipline impacted? Plenty of food for thought in this episode.
This full length professional learning session, recorded for the Ohio School Boards Association, focuses on one key foundational idea as it relates to teaching and learning through the lens of equity. That is, "to believe as a nation in a free public education means that the nation should demand fair and equitable treatment of all children, particularly those children traditionally marginalized, disenfranchised, unserved, and underserved.” -from Effecting Change for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Learners, 2nd Edition. A handout is available at https://adobe.ly/3ELrVgh.

Today I’m sharing with you an article that was commissioned by an education NGO for print in their membership journal. However, after several revisions, they found the content to be too politically risky for their organization. It contained too many words being weaponized against school systems by those opposed to diversity and equity. Words like "mindset" and "bias" and "privilege." So, they chose not to print it. Retaining my intellectual property, I chose to share that article here, in its original form and entirety. I hope you enjoy it.
