Description

From their enclave in midtown Manhattan, Michael Moynihan (Vice), Matt Welch (Reason), and Kmele Foster (Freethink) dissect the news, interrogate guests, and question just about everything. The topics are broad, the insights are deep, and the jokes are off color. Reform the system, or burn it to the ground? They discuss... @wethefifth www.wethefifth.com

Because try as they might to pull the conversation away from Kmele's bravura performance on Real Time with Bill Maher, the lads just couldn't manage it. I am a baptist preachers daughter. I was raised conservative, Republican, and then Christian, in that order. I was raised with racism and sexism. I have so many memories of sitting in the back yard with my dad listening to Rush Limbaugh. That is my background. I have legitimately seen my family do outright racist and sexist things. I joke that I am a recovering conservative. But I started that “recovery” because I now have teenage daughters and I absolutely can not raise them how I was raised. Again, I was raised to be racist. When I was raped I didn’t report it, because my family raised me to believe if a woman is raped it is her fault. I’m not saying all of this for sympathy. I have a point. Bare with me. My point is, is I’m searching. I’m searching for new information. I voted all democratic this election for the first time. I only did it because I knew the other side wasn’t what I wanted, but I still know that didn’t fit me either. Then I saw you in Bill Mahr and felt like I finally found someone speaking my language. My actual question is this. Where do I go. Neither side fits me, but I just don’t know how to vote or where to get my information.

In today’s hyper-politicized and polarized climate, it can be really hard to find a show or outlet that doesn’t cause independents to sift through drivel and sensational rhetoric to find original ideas. But this podcast is one of the only places I know of with a completely refreshing take on current events. Even disagreements are not taken as dividing lines between people, but something to discuss constructively and banter about it. I cannot recommend this enough. Just give it a try — and if you don’t like it, you can punch me in the face for wasting your time. Unless you’re a partisan who lets a cabal of Washington bureaucrats do all your thinking for you, in which case you should probably stay away from this.

After several months of listening to each and every episode, some more than once, I am of the opinion, these folks exist in a bubble of their own creation. Although their views may be described as independent of political party, I believe they belong to the political party of The Fifth Column. I got the impression, unless you believe exactly as they do, you’re an idiot, an expression hear on a regular basis. It’s been informative, thank you, gotta unsubcribe. I wish you all the best.

Bolton isn't going to come forward because he is the anonymous letter writer. that's why he did not show up for the inquiry. if they ask him questions that will show him to be the one, he will have to answer it under oath.

I have some very grave issues with podcast both philosophically and practically. First of all openly putting peoples information on the internet because you disagree with their family members politics is both wrong and stupid. They had no say in what was said, and thus you are using guilt by association. Also it is stupid because it paints you as childish thugs and makes your opponent sympathic. To claim to be a supporter of democracy and rights, but then to encourage the suppression of opponents is hypocrisy. Secondly I have a deeper philosophical issue with the guest. it seems that his work is largely built on a fallacy. Just because most modern democracies are liberal, doesn't mean that a democracy must be liberal. indeed I would argue that many stable states have been non liberal, and there is no reason to think a democracy could not have traditional institutions as well as a non capitalist economy, like a social credit or corporatist system. lastly he seems like his life has poorly equipped him to under why populism is happening. Being a naturalized American citizen, of polish jewish descent with a Harvard degree almost certainly points to a very much elite background. I can shed some light here with my working class background. To put it bluntly, we've been fucked in the ass by every special interest from AIPAC to Monsanto and were sick of it. We live in a system where money buys power and it's killing us, and we see people like mounk (or most establishment politicians) as pissing on our heads and telling us it's raining while CEO's get golden parachutes worth billions.
