The Floor Is Yours is hosted by Femi Oluwole; you’ve probably seen him arguing with Nigel Farage, debating on Twitter till the early hours or having a cup of tea with his opposition.

Covering for Femi this week was Somali social activist Nimco Ali, to talk about what it’s like to be black and British in this generation. She was joined by founder of ShowerBox Sarah Lamptey, Justin Finlayson from United Borders and Mandu Reid from the Women’s Equality Party. They spoke about their personal experiences and hot topics such as homelessness and knife crime. Finally, Conservative candidate for London Mayer, Shaun Bailey, spoke to Nimco about his proposals to help young black people in the UK and how the current government are failing them.
This week stepping in for Femi was Labour PPC and director of CLASS (Centre for Labour & Social Studies), Faiza Shaheen. Joining her to talk about how we can fix our political system post-Brexit was Labour MP Clive Lewis, digital strategist Shahmir Sanni and co-founder of the Women’s Equality Party, Catherine Mayer. They discussed the lack of representation in parliament, the flaws in the 2016 referendum and how that can be improved if we have a second. Klina Jordan from Make Votes Matter was also on the phone to talk about proportional representation and the best way to take back control.
Covering for Femi this week was the charismatic and witty, Jolyon Rubinstein. He was joined by Youth Officer for Hull George Aylett to discuss everything from general elections to extensions. Journalists Joana Ramiro and James Ball were in the studio on the day we should have been leaving the EU. They chatted about the current options we face as a country, which quickly changed as it was announced that MP’s had rejected Theresa May’s Brexit deal for a third time. Finally, talking to Jolyon about this breaking news was Lord Andrew Adonis, who gave his opinions on what will happen next in this never ending game called Brexit.
This week Femi was away so the lovely Emma Burnell was our guest host. Joining her was Young Conservative Stephen Canning and founder of Scientists 4 EU, Mike Galsworthy. They discussed austerity in the UK and the effects it has on crime, policing, schools and public services. Activist and feminist Sophie Walker was also in the studio to talk through the week’s headlines, including what happened in the Spring Statement and the sad events in New Zealand. Finally, activist Angela Ramsell joined Emma on the phone to add further comments to our topic of austerity.
Unity in the UK was this week’s theme on The Floor is Yours, and joining Femi in the studio was former The Voice UK winner and campaigner Jermain Jackman and pro-Brexiteer Dominique Samuels. They talked about the uproar about LGBT+ lessons being introduced in schools and how London-centric we are as a country with many areas in the North feeling like they’re not represented in politics. We also had comedian Ken Cheng to talk through the week’s headlines and his new game show on E4, The Hangover Games. Finally, Scottish journalist Angela Haggerty spoke to Femi on the phone about the unity between Scotland and England and the ongoing discussions about Scottish Independence.
CNN and New Statesman journalist Holly Thomas joined Femi to talk over the headlines including Domanic Raab’s recent criticisms, MPs getting a huge payrise plus David Lammy and Stacey Dooley bust up. In our round-table discussion this week, Elisabeth Braw from Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies, Azad Ali – activist and Community Relations Director for CAGE UK and Andre Walker who is Journalist and Brexit supporter joined Femi to talk about this week’s theme of ‘security’. The NHS was the topic of the week on the latest edition of The Floor Is Yours, and joining Femi was Mike Galsworthy, founder of NHS vs Brexit and Scientists 4 EU, and Ria Bernard, speech and language specialist. Also on the show was journalist Lucy Pasha-Robinson and Dr Mike, from Dr Mike on A Bike, who is currently cycling around the world to raise awareness for mental health for NHS staff.
This week Femi was joined by a wide array of guests to discuss climate change and environmentalism. Joining him in the studio for the entire hour was writer Matthew Todd, who discussed how we are running out of time to tackle some of the huge issues effecting our planet. Also in the studio was actor and environmentalist James Fletcher, who spoke about his experiences as a vegan, whilst Labour MP Geraint Davies was on the phone to talk about what politicians are doing in practical terms. Finally, former Green Party leader Natalie Bennett joined the conversation.
Housing was the main issue on the agenda for the latest episode of The Floor Is Yours; joining Femi to discuss the issue was writer Emma Burnell, Labour’s housing spokesman in the London Assembly Tom Copley, and Rueben Young, director of PricedOut. Also joining the show was Labour activist George Aylett, who was on the phone from Hull to discuss the level of political debate on Twitter as well as housing.
This week on The Floor Is Yours Femi ran through the headlines with writer Alex Andreou, discussing what happens next for Brexit after Theresa May’s deal was emphatically defeated in the House of Commons. Later, Femi discussed a variety of issues facing UK education with YouTuber Hannah Witton, author Yassmin Abel-Magied and former teacher Jonny Berlinger, including sex education and the drastic fall in new teachers.
Femi returned for the first show of 2019 and was joined in the studio by American comedian Desiree Burch, as the pair looked over their political highlights of 2018. Joining them on the phone was surprise guest Nish Kumar, who was full of praise for the work Femi does campaigning for a second EU referendum. Also in the studio was journalist and author Alastair Coleman and one of the individuals vying to be the Green Party’s London mayoral candidate, Zack Polanski.

Ashwin Bolar from from THTC Clothing to talk about his passions concerning hemp and organic products. Lib Dem MP Norman Lamb came on the phone to discuss his recently rejected bill which aims to legalise possession and consumption of cannabis. His ‘10-minute-rule bill’ in the House of Commons was rejected by 66 votes to 52 earlier this week. Our round-table discussion this week saw Sam from CBD oil specialist Cannassauers UK come through to the studio and Kris James who is a singer who is new to CBD.
Femi returned for another look at the weeks headlines, and was joined by Jolyon Rubinstein and Heydon Prowse, stars of The Revolution Will Be Televised and new series Ministry of Justice on Channel 4. They caught up with the latest news on Brexit (get stocking up on Wotsits), before discussing social media and online propaganda with Vice editor Gavin Haynes and author and mental health activist Natasha Devon MBE.

Later, Femi was joined by drill artist Drillminister and London Mayoral candidate for the Liberal Democrats Siobhan Benita as they held an in-depth discussion about knife crime and policing. Finally, Steven France joined Femi on the phone from Sunderland to talk about the impact of cuts to public services in the North East.
