Description

The Follow Up covers sports, health and politics through a deeper lens and provides a unique spin on content production and interviews. Host, Ashley Nevel, is an advocate for being unapologetically yourself and provides a positive platform for professionals who often get judged or misunderstood by mainstream media. This podcast follows up with your favorite sports personalities, motivational speakers, celebrities and more. Throughout Ashley's 10+ years in reporting, one thing she noticed about sports coverage was that the stories being covered and the questions being asked were too generic and repetitive. Content was lacking and there was so much more to a player than what he does in his sport. So, there she was fresh out of college, credentialed in Vegas for the NBA Summer League and covering high profile athletes, asking out of the box questions and creating viral content that caught the attention of many media outlets including SportsCenter, ESPN First Take and Fox Sports. The goal is, however, never to necessarily go viral. For Ashley, it's about providing dialogue that can help spark important conversations with some entertainment mixed in. Ashley's approach is always empathetic, charismatic and depending on the temperature in the room, sometimes humorous and sarcastic. She is an open book, even sharing some of her struggles and vulnerable moments in the sports world and life in general. Her straight forward approach allows those she's interviewing to let their guard down and feel comfortable talking about anything she throws at them. Ashley has had the opportunity of interviewing Hall of Famer and TNT analyst Charles Barkley, 3x NBA Champion and future Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade, and other notable athletes including Damian Lillard, Steph Curry, James Harden, Chris Paul and Devin Booker. She has also been featured on ESPN First Take twice getting over 3 million views and has worked with or been seen on various platforms including ESPN, ESPNU, Fox Sports, ESPN’s The Jump, First Take, CBS Sports, Bleacher Report, SLAM, House Of Highlights, Overtime, SB Nation, and more.

Former ESPN super star Michelle Beadle shares her journey in the sports world and the ups and downs she faced to make it to where she is today. During her 25 year career, Beadle worked at ESPN as the host of NBA Countdown, Sports Nation, and Get Up. She also held jobs with CBS, NBC and Fox. She left ESPN suddenly a few years ago and shared her story on what happened. Now, she's back home in San Antonio covering the Spurs as a reporter and host for their broadcast team. Beadle didn't always know she wanted to be a sports reporter but when she decided to audition for her spot on Sports Nation, it was evident that sports was her calling. She shares her crazy story of how she landed that gig and how it turned into some of the best times of her life! But things started getting rocky over at ESPN and in 2019, Beadle announced her departure from the worldwide leader in sports. For most, they'd be devastated to walk away from a job of that caliber but Beadle had had enough and knew it was time to leave. We go in-depth about the struggles many face in this industry and the importance of giving back and lifting others up especially women in a male dominated world. We both share stories of being misunderstood, rejected and knocked down but also moments of preserving and how we bounced back. We talk work/life balance, dating, and SO much more. For more unique content visit my Instagram and YouTube Channel @AshleyNevel
