Joining Bill in the studio this week was Scarborough-based singer songwriter Nick Calling making his debut on the show. Bill met Nick at Filey Folk Festival earlier in the year when Nick was sat in the audience of the venue Bill was hosting. As Nick didn't want to do mainstream covers, he only had six songs in his repertoir - either his own original, or songs written by friends of his, so Nick performed 3 songs in the first hour, 2 in the second hour, and one in the last hour. Joining Bill in the studio this week was Moon Moth making their debut on the show. Originally a duo, they were due on the show in 2022, but illness put a stop to that. Now expanded to a four-piece by adding cajon and bass guitar to their line up to compliment their guitar and saxaphone, they played a storming set of original songs - some from their latest album that was partly written and recorded in New Zealand. Our regular NZ listener has suggested that next time they are down under they play some gigs at the northern tip of the south island. Joining Bill in the studio this week was two-thirds of York-based rockers Pig Iron, making a welcome return to the studio. The third member, drummer Pete lives in Scotland so records his drum tracks and those are played via the PeteBox, whilst Neil on lead guitar and Rich on bass guitar and both on vocals play live in the studio. Who knows, one day Pete may put in an appearance in person! Emily played a great set of original songs, mainly from her excellent new album, Chrysalis, in which she has taken influence from country music. Emily also performed a new song that was written after the new album was released. Joining Bill in the studio this week was Country Music singer/songwriter Scarlett Whincup from Halifax making her debut on the show. Scarlett played a great mix of original and covers, including a countrified version of an Andy Williams song. Playing guitar with backing vocals and additional instruments streamed to the desk via a piece of technical wizardry, Scarlett aced her set and is more than welcome to come back on in the future.
