What do you desire? Food and water are essential to human thriving. And the readings today indicate that God cares about both. But God cares about more. Not just food to eat, and water to drink. No, water to give eternal life, and food to join us to the real presence.

Arts and Crafts. God knows what he has made. And what he's trying to say in this first reading is that God is all-powerful. That God can do whatever God wants. And he's reminding the people, you know, you only exist because of me. You only exist because I love you. You only exist because I created you in love.

Family. Where is the desire of our heart? The kingdom of heaven should be the desire of our heart. And it should be the desire of our heart in a way that is so strong that we would do anything to enter into it. We would seek out a treasure buried in a field. We will buy a pearl of great price.

Broken heart. In our lives too we probably have such moments. When we have been faithful to the Word of God, we have sought to live in a way that he wishes us to live, but things don't always turn out so well. And that's a time where it's really hard to be faithful. That's a time where we might say we don't understand what it is that God is doing or how it is that God is acting. But we need to remember the lesson of the prophet Jeremiah that when such times arise we too must turn to the Lord.
