Description

Are you at a loss to understand your child's big emotions and behaviors? Are you frustrated with, sad about, or even scared of your child? Are you completely confused about how to help them and help yourself make it through even another day in the midst of the arguments, the school refusals and suspensions, and even the threats and physical aggression? If you're at your wit's end, wondering what you've done wrong, or feeling like there's nothing you can do, this podcast is for you! The Full Potential Parenting Podcast is for parents of children with serious emotional and behavioral struggles, and for professionals who work with such families. In short segments (under 15 minutes), I'll be introducing you to critical concepts (like developmental trauma, neuroception, and regulation), lifesaving stress release tips and tools, inspiring books that I've found transformational or enlightening, and effective (non-pharmaceutical) therapies and interventions that you may have heard of but don't know much about (like EMDR, neurofeedback, or cransalsacral therapy). My goal is to help you better understand not only what's going on with your child but also what's going on with you, so you have more awareness and compassion for your child and yourself and are better able to manage your emotions and be there for your child in a way that helps them feel safe, seen, accepted, and loved, so they can begin to heal.Whether your child has multiple diagnoses or none, if you're at all concerned about what's going on with your child (and about how you're getting triggered yourself), it's empowering to finally get some answers about why certain things are happening and why you're reacting the way you are. Your host, Alison Morris, is the founder of Full Potential Parenting and a certified Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT Tapping) practitioner who loves to help parents better understand both the roots of what they're witnessing with the children and various approaches to soothing everyone's stress so you and your child can reach your full potential.

Learn a few quick and easy ways to do both, even when the weather or other circumstances prevent you from being outside. You can teach these techniques to your children too!
Our children are energetically sensitive and many (most?) of them are feeling emotions that aren't even theirs. Learn easy tools you can teach or use on your children to help them release what doesn't belong to them and to help them maintain their own energetic boundaries going forward so they don't need to struggle with emotions that don't belong to them.

Get some basic facts about the microbiome, learn why the microbiome is key to not just immune health, but also mood and overall health, and find out easy ways to increase the diversity of the "good" microorganisms in your and your children's bodies..
Why do bacteria, viruses, and fungi exist? What role do they play? In this episode you're invited to take a higher perspective on the intricate web of life on Earth and how moving out of fear of microorganisms (and even being grateful for them) might be helpful in returning us to a more balanced place.
If your child doesn't feel safe, they can't concentrate, listen, or "make good choices". Learn about a key sensory system that is always assessing whether there's danger in the environment, and some of the surprising cues of threat your child may be picking up on.
Everyone should be familiar with some nervous system fundamentals. Get to know the basics of The Polyvagal Theory by Dr. Stephen Porges, and learn the three major priorities of the nervous system. This quick exercise was designed by Stanley Rosenberg and can be found in his book, Accessing the Healing Power of the Vagus Nerve.
Learn why every parent, teacher, and therapist - heck, anyone who works with or interacts with children - should read this fabulous book by Dr. Mona Delahooke about why we need to look beyond (below) behaviors to understand what's really going on with our children and why they are behaving the way they are.
