In this episode of The Fully Charged Show Podcast, Robert Llewellyn sits down with Giles Parkinson, founder and editor of RenewEconomy, The Driven, and One Step Off the Grid—Australia’s go-to sources for EV and clean energy news. They dive into Australia’s rapid shift to renewables, the household solar boom, and why independent media plays a crucial role in educating the public, policymakers, and politicians. With an explosion of new EV options—including Range-Extending Electric Utes designed for Australia’s ute-obsessed drivers—they also unpack Tesla’s declining sales and how fresh competition is reshaping the market. The discussion covers vehicle-to-grid technology, the political and economic forces driving (or stalling) clean energy adoption, and how capitalism is proving that sustainability equals cheaper energy—forcing industries to adapt, regardless of political resistance. Plus, they tackle big-picture topics like decarbonising mining, nuclear energy, and Fortescue’s clean energy ambitions. Want to hear more from Robert and Giles? In this episode of the Fully Charged Show Podcast, we shine a spotlight on the unsung hero of lithium-ion batteries: Graphite. As the key component of a battery’s anode, graphite plays a critical role in powering EVs and energy storage solutions. However, with over 95% of the world’s graphite refined in China, diversifying the supply chain is more important than ever. We delve into how companies like Quebec-based Nouveau Monde Graphite (NMG) are stepping up, promising carbon-neutral graphite—an ambitious goal for an industry reliant on mining and refining raw materials. The company, backed by supply agreements with GM and Panasonic, is working to determine whether the battery supply chain can truly go green and make sustainable mining a reality. Joining us is NMG CEO and founder Eric Desaulniers to explore these challenges and opportunities. In this episode of the Fully Charged Show Podcast, Robert explores the world of tyres with Gunnlaugur Erlendsson, CEO and Founder of ENSO. With billions of tyres in use globally, most made from fossil-fuel-derived synthetic rubber, the environmental impact is staggering. Tyre wear releases six million tonnes of microscopic particles annually—accounting for 28% of primary microplastics in our oceans—and contributes more to air pollution than vehicle tailpipes. ENSO is taking on this challenge with innovative, low cost, durable, high-efficiency tyres specifically designed for electric vehicles (EVs). These advanced tyres produce 35% less pollution and can also extend EV range, setting a new standard for sustainability in the automotive industry. Great episode as usual, but profoundly shocking that a forward thinking podcast like this glosses over the huge health hazard of wood burning stoves. The stove industry has learned from the fossil fuel industry spreading disinformation about the toxicity of their products. Even the supposed eco stoves are 18 times more polluting than a diesel truck. That supposed lovely smell is benzene

Here in Alberta, Canada, the provincial government just wants to keep burning fossil fuels, they complain about not wanting solar farms, but will only allow homeowners to only put up enough solar for their own consumption, no off peak metering, no rebate if you buy an EV. I'm beginning to have a rant, like you, Robert. love the show. I'm a long-time subscriber from Western Canada.

Funny thing is for 9 months, you hear the "informed by Facebook et al" moan "you shouldn't load the grid during the day. It can't cope!" and the less informed EV users will comply by charging at night... 😋

Ever heard of a little place called India, Robert? I know that at 1 point something billion people, it's an easy one to miss, but they do drive on the left too mate. You might want to rethink how many people in the world actually drive on the left. There are quite a few of us.

You can't get your milk in glas bottles in the UK? Wow. We even have machines that dispense milk into whatever you want to hold under the tap here in N.Z. There's nothing stopping you from filling up a gumboot if you really feel like a boot full of milk. Glass milk bottles are back to stay here.
