The Gaming Nexus Show

The crew of the website gamingnexus.com sit down to talk news, pop culture, and of course video games.

A Yo Adriyan Rae!

Adriyan Rae is nominated for a Golden Joystick Award! We were honored to interview the voice behind Hazel Flood from the game South of Midnight. South of Midnight released earlier 2025, by Compulsion Games and Xbox. Joseph was more than excited to interview Adriyan, and this may be a cheap plug to go vote for her here. Extra special thanks to the PR Machine Grace Topalian for the oportunity!

Advancement!

Though we are missing our wonderful Elliot (I highly doubt they are), our resident game developer Max has assumed the throne! Crown him (king of mouth clicks) as he and Editor in Chief Eric talk about his game "Ocean's Heart" hitting the Switch, NFT's, then he (Max) and our Streamer Joseph talk about the advancement in "demakes". This episode is to the Max, so give it a listen! (so many!...) You can also preorder his game for the Switch here. -written by Joseph, with small edits by Elliot (I'm still here bitches)

Difficulty and video games

This week’s topic for The Gaming Nexus Show was difficulty. Our presentation today in three acts. Act one Eric talks about how hard it is to be good at video games, and even though he reviews games he’s not necessarily good at them. Act two Joe and Eric chat about the glory days of the original PlayStation era, back when games only had one difficulty. They break down their top five games from that system, with a bevy of honorable mentions (be sure to listen for Elliot’s top five at the top of the show). We round out the episode talking about the biggest gaming news of 2022 so far, Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard. How difficult will it be for Sony now that Microsoft owns an ever growing library of games? If you want to skip around (that’s totally fine with us) here are the jumping on points for this week’s segments: 3:44 Eric difficulty with games 13:50 Joseph and Eric’s top five PlayStation games 48:25 Activision-Blizzard bought up by Microsoft Enjoy listening to us weekly? Help us out and tell someone about The Gaming Nexus Show. We also have other projects you can get into as well! Like catching Joe’s Twitch, look for Max’s game, go to Eric’s YouTube channel, and listen to Elliot’s other podcast. All the ways to enjoy all the other stuff we make can be found in one handy link.

It's time to share our feelings

We have made it through the holiday break here on The Gaming Nexus Show. Video game news and releases may have been few and far in between the past couple of weeks, but things are looking up in the world of video games. Our topic for this week’s show was feelings. Eric and Elliot sat down to talk about theirs and the game Hades, something Elliot has been into since it’s initial release in 2020, and a game Eric has just recently given a try. After that Joseph chats with Eric about his cousin Ania. Of course we end with the selection of next episode’s word, and you’ll never believe who gets to finally pick it. If you want to skip around (that’s totally fine with us) here are the jumping on points for this week’s segments: 2:55 Hades with Eric and Elliot 22:20 Joseph shares about Ania 57:33 wrap up and next episode’s theme Enjoy listening to us weekly? Saddle up for this horse driven episode

Eric was once again allowed to pick the topic for this week’s show, he went with horses. We somehow found the gusto to put out three segments, some a little closer to the horse culture than others. We begin with a little end of the year chat about our favorite games of the year. And then Eric give us a tale of a knee replacement, and the game he will forever tie his recovery from it with. Elliot is joined by friend of the show Scott, of the Budget Arcade Podcast, to talk about horses and videogames. They both break down and end up talking about World of Warcraft. Finally Eric tests Joe's knowledge about the Atari era of video games. If you want to skip around (that’s totally fine with us) here are the jumping on points for this week’s segments: 4:40 Favorite games of 2021 15:32 Eric and Red Dead 25:42 Elliot and Scott talk mounts in games 41:52 Eric and Joe Atari trivia 1:17:00 Next episode’s topic Be sure to check out Scott’s podcast Budget Arcade, you can frequently hear Elliot as a guest. Trucks, and snakes... a podcast about video games

You read that right. This week we turned Eric's terrible idea of trucks and snakes into a podcast about video games. If you like that you'll love the next episode's word. We also give our thoughts on some of the Game Awards nominees. Max talks to Eric about a truck that meant a lot to some of us in our formidable years. Joe gives his thoughts on the game Returnal.  And stick around as Elliot loses his mind over who gets to pick the next topic. If you want to skip around (that’s totally fine with us) here are the jumping on points for this week’s segments: 5:53 Game Awards 19:58 Mew under the truck 54:15 Returnal 1:12:54 Wrap up

Select, Start

Stuck at home with a room full of people you’re not super excited to see this Thanksgiving? Your weird uncle asleep on the couch? Want something time consuming without putting in any physical work? We may have the show for you. We have a heaping portion of The Gaming Nexus Show for you this week. This week our topic was press-start. Joseph found himself pushing start on a newly purchased PlayStation 5. And boy does he have opinions. He sat down with Eric to talk and tells the listeners if he thinks it’s worth trying to pick up one right now, or if you’re better off just waiting. Joseph wasn’t done giving you his opinion of things, and as such read his op-ed he wrote a few weeks back on gamingnexus.com. And finally Elliot and Eric talk about the recent stealth release of Halo Infinity’s multiplayer. Elliot comes from a background where he played the first handful of games almost religiously, and this was Eric’s first foray into the series. And not to shock anyone, they have different opinions of the release. If you want to skip around (that’s totally fine with us) here are the jumping on points for this week’s segments: 18:50 Joseph buying a PS5 42:35 Joseph sounds off on Nintendo 55:30 Eric and Elliot talk Halo Infinity multiplayer 1:25:20 Wrap up Enjoy listening to us weekly? We are finally back! After a little hiatus The Gaming Nexus Show is back and better than ever. The Gaming Nexus Show is a podcast for people who like video games but want something a little different than the typical podcast. What does that mean? Well each episode we’re going to choose a word (or sentence if you’re Joe) and bring you some stories with that as a theme. This week’s theme is loyalty. We have three stories to share, one from Joe (who played Murder House) One from Eric and Aidan, and a little essay by Elliot about brand loyalty.  If you want to skip around (that’s totally fine with us) here are the jumping on points this week: 8:25- Forza 19:00- Joe gives his thought on Murder House 35:32- Eric and Aiden talk about friendships made while gaming 105:30- Elliot talks brand loyalty 1:11:16- wrap up and next episode’s topic Enjoy listening to us weekly? Where have we been? Where are we going?

Where have we been? Well we’ve been on a little bit of an unscheduled break that became more than that. We’re still going to be gone for a few more weeks, but we will return! And with our return comes a new and hopefully improved version of our show. Look for the new style on November 11. Thanks for sticking by, just a few more weeks.

The Gaming Nexus Show was live from GDEX

We did something a little special last week. The four of us had the opportunity to speak at a panel at GDEX? Not sure what GDEX is? Well it’s a, “convention dedicated to a love of games and creative technology, located in Columbus, Ohio.  GDEX features a weekend expo showcase, combined with presentation sessions, artist alleys, raffles, tournaments, and Charity events. The GDEX expo is a curated showcase of some of the most exciting up and coming developers so that you can see the latest games before anyone else!” We decided to record our panel as well and the results were better than I expected. The audio quality isn’t as great as our normal episodes, but still very listenable. Elliot and Eric bring two separate games with very similar rules. Joe shows us his improv chops to hilarious results, and Max does research for something he didn’t need to, but decides to share his findings anyway.  Joseph also decided to stream the panel, and you can choose to watch it instead of just listening.  Want even more content by these four guys? Try Joseph's Twitch page, or the video game Max developed, Ocean’s Heart. Eric has a YouTube and Elliot has another other podcast he does with his wife.

Netflix top 10, and reviews, reviews, reviews

Netflix has been very shy about just how many people watch their shows and movies. That changed this week when they gave us not only the top ten most watched movies and shows, but how many hours each one has been viewed as well. Max and Eric try to guess which shows make the list without much success. We also discuss how Twitch is trying to handle curbing the hate raids. And then everyone takes a turn reviewing a recently played game or two. We hope you enjoy listening to us weekly, and if you do help us out and tell someone about The Gaming Nexus Show. We also have other projects you can get into as well! Like catching Joe’s Twitch, look for Max’s game Ocean’s Heart, go to Eric’s YouTube channel, and listen to Elliot’s other podcast. Diablo 2, rumor mills, and the best indie titles

Did you know the Emmys took place last week? We talk about how basic cable hosted a show devoted to awarding online streaming shows and movies, and no one is surprised. Eric brings up the topic of Diablo 2 and if it’s ok to support a game that has ties to Blizzard. Joseph gets upset about rumors, even when they’re not about him. Elliot hates on old people just because they’re old. And Max brings up Catan World Explorers, a game that was in development which is now going away before being completely finished. We round out the episode with some listener questions. Enjoy listening to us weekly? Help us out and tell someone about The Gaming Nexus Show. We also have other projects you can get into as well! Like catching Joe’s Twitch, look for Max’s game, go to Eric’s YouTube channel, and listen to Elliot’s other podcast. And of course you can visit the place where it all started, gamingnexus.com.

Switch Bluetooth, Epic vs Apple, the Artful Escape

Is it too late for Nintendo to add Bluetooth to the Switch? Does anyone care? Have you heard about this whole Epic vs Apple but find it confusing? Elliot tries to explain it to the best of his knowledge to the other three, with some mixed results. Joseph bails on the pod halfway through the episode, and Elliot is bullied into leaving it unedited, to hilarious results. Eric and Joseph talk about the Artful Escape and why everyone should play it. Max forgets what day of the week it is and brings nothing, absolutely nothing to the table. Like the show? Help us out and tell someone about the show, our listens all come from word of mouth, we don’t advertise the show. We also have other projects you can get into as well! Like catching Joe’s Twitch, look for Max’s game Ocean's Heart, go to Eric’s YouTube channel, and listen to Elliot’s other podcast.
