GST 4 - Red Christmas

2025-10-0919:23

On this Geek Speak Treats, Henry once again goes back in time. Back to 2016 when Dee Wallace (E.T., The Howling, Cujo) came on the show to talk about her (at the time) new horror film, Red Christmas. It's a horror film that you can watch during Halloween season...and again during Christmas season, as it's set during Christmas.
Clover Press publisher Hank Kanalz joins Henry to talk about the ongoing Kickstarter campaign for The Amazing Spider-Man Classic Newspaper Comics. For the first time ever in softcover, Stan Lee and John Romita’s THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN NEWSPAPER COMICS returns to print in Clover Press’s spectacular new line of deluxe slipcase editions! The Book Club features a surprise this week. Not the book selection, but who the selection comes from.
You've probably heard or visited the RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. But did you know it's one of the most haunted ships in America? Nicole Strickland is a show host, author, paranormal investigator and a Queen Mary historian who has written four books about the ship's history. She's also quite knowledgeable about the Queen Mary's haunted history. She talks about her experiences and you'll hear ghostly voices recorded on the Queen Mary on this all-new Geek Speak Treats episode.
Is it really Halloween if we don't talk about a haunted house? On this episode, Henry takes us back to 2018. Back to a few days before The Haunting of Hill House premiered on Netflix. First, we hear from The Newton Brothers and the music they composed for the show. Then, Paxton Singleton talks about playing young Steven Crain in the series, how he doesn't really like scary movies and more.
This year's first Geek Speak Treats episode takes us to The Happiest Place On Earth: Disneyland! As the title says, though, Disneyland is one of the most haunted places in America. And we're not talking about The Haunted Mansion. Although that ride is very haunted, as you'll hear in this episode. Two former Cast Members share their experiences while working at Disneyland and also about conducting paranormal tours only for Cast Members. Enjoy this first Geek Speak Treats episode and be on the lookout for more through the month of October!
The Geek Speak Show is back with an all-new episode! After Shanclen's Nerdy Navajo News report, Henry welcomes writer Joshua Rubin & award-winning Portugese artist Jorge Coelho. Their new comic book, Time Sensitive #1, is currently running a Kickstarter campaign, ending on October 9th. Time Sensitive isn't the typical superhero story...in fact, there are no superheroes in it. It tells the story of L.A detective Caleb Stone, who's wife disappears one day...and everyone claims she never existed. Except for one teenage girl Caleb meets who not only believes him, but knows why his wife and many other people are being deleted. After that, the Book Club selection is Mark Tullius' Try Not To Die series, with 20 titles published and 30 more in development. In addition to his other novels and short story collections, he’s also written two nonfiction books inspired by his reckless journey through Ivy League football, MMA, and boxing—Unlocking the Cage, the largest sociological study of fighters, and TBI or CTE, which raises awareness for brain injury survivors.
Henry welcomes RJ Palisoc to the show this week. RJ is a producer & writer who has worked at Marvel Animation, Sony Pictures Animation and Legendary Pictures. He's now created his own comic book series called Barkskin, based on the Filipino mythological creature known as the Kapre. Plus a new Book Club selection that's perfect for the upcoming spooky season and a new Nerdy Navajo News with Shanclen.
The gang's all here for this month's Issues of the Day! Henry & Shanclen are joined by Geek Off The Street's Trent Tucker & Marc Pope as they discuss whether superhero fatigue is actually a thing now...and is it really because of bad stories or just human nature to get tired of too much of something? Marc & Trent bring up a couple of interesting topics at the end: Are all the Korean music, shows and films that are so popular now a good thing or bad thing? Also, as shown in Alien:Earth, if someone's consciousness is transferred to a diffeent body, is that person still alive or someone else?
On this episode, Henry welcomes Scott & India Cramton to the show. Scott wanted to shoot a Ghostbusters fan film for their wedding day, which he and their friends did. They released it on their theatre company's Youtube channel and it's been a huge hit with Ghostbusters fans. Hear their story in their own words and how even neighbors and locals they didn't know gladly participated in this fan film. For The Book Club, author Maxwell Alexander Drake talks about getting a second chance to (re)write his two most successful books: Genesis of Oblivion.
This week, Henry welcomes Alessandra Ferreri, Head of Content at Wattpad. Alessandra talks about the stories that Wattpad & its distributing partners look for and how those original stories get monetized, adapted & distributed. Then, writer & director Jeffrey Morris visits to talk about his new documentary, The Eagle Obsession. It follows his journey to find the origins of the Eagle Transporter spaceship from the Space: 1999 TV show...but it's actually much more than that. Plus a classic pick for The Book Club from Henry.
Mark Nazal joins Henry on this week's episode. Mark is an award-winning VFX artist/supervisor who has worked on many of the shows we watch. The Walking Dead, Gotham, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,Runaways and more. He's also the founder & Chief Creative Officer of Diwata Komiks, where he's bringing traditional Filipino-American stories to life for a whole new audience. For the Book Club, H.H. German drops by to talk to Henry about Calico, a vegan anti-hero who fights for those who can't: abused animals. It's published by H.H.'s own publishing company, Sigma Comics.
After a short recap of SDCC 2025, Henry welcomes Elliot & Harry White to the show. They're the artistic Directors for Foster Cat Productions and they talk about their new musical, It's A Bird...It's A Plane...It's Superman! For this week's Book Club selection, Shannon Gilligan drops by for a visit. Shannon is the CEO & publisher of Chooseco, as well as a long-time writer for Choose Your Own Adventure.
It's San Diego Comic-Con week! That means it's time for the annual Countdown To Comic-Con episode! The Fourth of July holiday is behind us, so that means....we're weeks away from San Diego Comic-Con! On this episode, Henry gives some advice to first-time attendees. Their excitement is building, but also a bit of anxiety as they start to see the schedule roll out, the activations, the off-sites, etc. This episode gives you first-time attendees some tips on how to navigate your first San Diego Comic-Con. Not the panels, but the little things that you may not be thinking about.
As we celebrate the 4th of July holiday in America, Henry replays an interview with director Lisa Downs. Lisa returned to The Geek Speak Show in June of last year to talk about her upcoming documentary Life After The Goonies. The campaign has ended and was successfuly funded, but you can still back them if you feel the need after you hear Lisa's story. The Geek Speak Show, Vol. 2 returns with all-new episodes starting July 9, 2025.
On this month's Issues of the Day, Henry is joined by Geek Off The Street's Marc Pope. They start by talking about Star Trek The Original Series possibly being rebooted by the Strange New Worlds team & actors and whether that would be welcomed or not. Then, in a first for an Issues of the Day episode, they welcome a guest: Lukas Kendall, founder of Film Score Monthly Magazine. Lukas talks about how & why he started a magazine about film scores when he was in high school and how it became THE go-to source for fans of film scores. The episode ends with Marc & Henry discussing something that is becoming normal in Geek Culture: Spoiler Culture, plus Marc Pope throws a few "rapid-fire" questions at Henry to wrap up the episode in a fun & geeky way.
Henry and Shanclen spend the first segment talking about the protests in Southern California, war in the Middle East and how all of this turmoil affects all of us. Shanclen even released a video about it on his YouTube Channel. Henry references a conversation he and Shanclen had about all of this and how it applies to the Geek Speak audience, particularly those of you that want to be tomorrow's filmmakers & storytellers. Plus, Henry highlights a classic Star Wars book for this week's Book Club selection.
After Henry explains why the show was away for so long, he gives a major update on The Geek Speak Expo. Comic Book writer & web manager Amin Amat joins the show to talk about his Kickstarter campaign for The Road To Oz: Chapter Two. Then Omar Morales visits to talk to Henry about his new graphic novel, Major Thomás.
On this month's Issues of the Day episode, Henry & Shanclen are joined by Scott & Gina Dunn. Scott & Gina are former actors, producers, writers and directors who are now YouTubers with three channels of content. (Dunncast, Dunn Reacts & Dunnit Films) They join the show to continue the conversation they had in one of their videos from earlier this year where they discussed the death of Hollywood. They talk about why & when Hollywood started to lose the magic and how it can get it back and, more importantly, bring audiences back to movie theatres. Henry & Shanclen also have a short discussion on the importance of Free Comic Book Day & whether it's accomplishing its original mission: To introduce comics to new readers and bring back former readers.
