Tulsa Football followed a hot game 1 against Abilene Christian with a disappointing road performance at New Mexico State. However, as we discuss, you can definitely still find plenty of reasons for optimism going forward. Can the team get their swagger back in their American Conference opener at home vs Navy this Saturday? We will see.To learn more about this year's Midshipmen, we welcome in Mike James from The Mid Report and the Navy Football Radio Network. Mike's doing color commentary for Navy Football alongside Keenan Reynolds (yes that Keenan Reynolds), which is extremely cool. Always love talking with him. After previewing Navy, we round out the episode by digging into some absolutely incredible weeks from the other sports happening at TU right now, particularly by the volleyball team, women's soccer team, and women's golf team.
The Tre Lamb era kicked off at home with a resounding 35-7 victory over the #16 FCS team in the country in Abilene Christian. Can TU keep the momentum going and go get a road win at New Mexico State? To help us preview the Aggies, we welcome in Nick Coppola from the Las Cruces Sun-News.In this one, we:* Recap the Abilene Christian win, especially the two fourth down stops and Angus Davies' 80 YARD PUNT* Award our players of the game* Review the new turf and the new Tulsa Golden Lager* Take a look Around the American for week one* Preview New Mexico State with Nick Coppola* Catch up on men's & women's soccer, volleyball, women's golf, and cross countryHuge shout out to Anthony, **OUR FIRST EDITOR**! This episode was his first edit for us. We're extremely excited and grateful to have him on board. Football is so close to being back, just days away at this point! And we are so pumped to see the first game with Tre Lamb at the helm. To help us break down FCS #16 Abilene Christian we are joined by Zach McKinnell from FCS Football Central on Sports Illustrated, Hero Sports FCS and Opta Analyst FCS (and plenty more). While we did talk about the matchup it was way more than that including the overall state of FCS, Tulsa's transfers, and Tre Lamb.Additionally we talked American's opening weekend, Tulsa beer, captains, why Matt is wearing orange to TU games, soccer, golf, volleyball, cross country and plenty of more!
The Hurricast returns! To kick off our 8th season and to preview the 2025 Tulsa Football team, we welcome Jeremie Poplin back to the show!Jeremie is the new Statewide Sports Director for News on 6 in Tulsa/News 9 in OKC in addition to being a sideline reporter for TU football, frequently appearing on the Eye of the Hurricane Podcast, and more. With Jeremie, we talk Rick Dickson as TU Interim President, Tre Lamb, staff standouts, and high level offense & defense before breaking down every single position group, digging into the schedule and getting a record prediction, and finally we close with a couple of listener questions. After Jeremie takes off, we give our own record predictions as well as make guesses on who will be the offensive, defensive, and breakout players of the year. This one goes deep and is packed with great stuff to get you ready for the upcoming football season. Hope you enjoy it!
The 2024-25 Tulsa men's hoops season is officially in the books, and Head Coach Eric Konkol will return for a fourth season. We give our thoughts on that decision before discussing women's hoops' shocking AAC Tournament loss and surprising WNIT berth, softball's upswing, other TU sports, and our favorite NCAA Tournament bracket picks.
The season(s) are over or ending. The men finished out the regular season with a big win on the road over Wichita State, but have an uphill battle in the conference tournament. Meanwhile the women’s season comes to a close with an upset loss to Charlotte. Now is the time to talk about the question that everyone has been wondering - should Tulsa move on from Eric Konkol? Besides giving our thoughts on that question we talk on conference tourney preview, softball, track, tennis, golf, and more!
The TU men shot 50% from 3 in the first half and 44% from deep overall against Tulane at home and still couldn't pull out the W in another heartbreaker. We recap the Tulane loss before previewing Tuesday's Senior Night vs Temple and Sunday's regular season finale on the road against a surging Wichita State team. The Tulsa women, on the other hand, are one fire. They've won 4 straight and are riding high heading into the AAC Tournament in Ft. Worth. We talk about that momentum and do a brief preview of the upcoming conference tournament. Finally, we take a look around the conference and discuss TBAL rankings before going pretty deep on all other active TU sports including men's tennis's tough schedule, women's tennis's hot start, softball's up and down season so far, women's golf's recent & upcoming tournaments, and how the men & women fared at the recent AAC Track & Field Championships.Fun one! Also, keep an eye out for Matt's upcoming Patreon post digging into some softball stats 👀
Ryan is out this week so Matt solos this episode. The men’s team keeps having weeks that go in the opposite direction of how we talk about them on the podcast. We get into their very bad week and a more, including:The women’s record setting weekSoftball’s slow startRecaps for Track, Tennis & Golf
Just when we thought the season was lost and over the men’s team string off two of their more impressive wins of the season just to spite Matt for our last episode’s title. We talk those big wins, outlook for the rest of the year plus more:Women’s basketball ending their 1-1 streakA look around campus sportsPatreon updates
Matt is finally back from the worst two week stretch he’s ever had! Now that he’s back the crew talks about the current state of the men and women’s basketball teams including:-Recaps of the bad (M) / average (W) week.-Previews for the upcoming stretch-Are these lost seasons?Additionally we look around campus at all the other sports that are in-season now!
The TU men bounced back in a big way in a dominant win over Wichita State and look like a team reaching their final form. Can they bring it against UAB and Tulane?
Also: Delanie Crawford sets TU Women's Basketball's all-time record for three-pointers made, players beyond Crawford continue to step up, and I take a look around the American before closing with a quick update on other sports across TU athletics.
Also also: Matt broke his leg like a dork (it looks awful ask him for the pic), so I am back to solo this one.
