Loughborough are just coming into their own at the end of this season, beating Bristol Bears & Saracens in recent weeks… so Scaz has invited us to take a look around her house, to see what’s in the water there.
Lightning Head Coach, Nathan Smith, joins Scazzy to tell us all about Loughborough’s pathways & the club he’s building.
Scaz then sits down with one of her youngest team mates, & one of the newest Red Roses, Lilli Ives Campion and a Red Rose of her generation, who is now coaching England U18s Ollie Perry to discuss everything from Sunter’s glory days at uni, to the England pathway.
Finally the trio are joined by Loughborough uni player, Emily ‘Mags’ Maguire, who is a mentee on GSR & Vodafone’s EmpowHER programme, to hear all about her journey into coaching.
GSR & Vodafone’s EmpowHER programme is bridging the gap between Women’s BUCS Super Rugby & the top leagues in England, Scotland & Wales. The unis get:

Abi Burton is back in a Red Roses training jersey with her sights firmly on her next XVs cap after the most incredible return to the GB7s team in the summer & an Olympic cycle that now seems like someone else’s life, to her. She joins Elma & Meg to relive her journey from the pitch, to a hospital bed, & back again. She touches on how her muscle mass saved her life, how much she appreciates her body now and how she’ll never get enough of necking pints of gravy fr fun. The Trailfinders back row is firmly back in business… & we suggest you don’t get in her way.

Elma’s headed South West to meet the busiest woman in the PWR: nail technician to the stars, Exeter Chiefs Captain & Exeter Uni Head Coach, Poppy Leitch & her team mate, Canada’s Alex Tessier AKA Tess. They discuss Tess’ World Rugby Player of the Year nomination & the nails that went with her outfit in Monaco (of course), as well as the legacy of Jo Yapp in those parts & the programme’s transformation over the last few years under Poppy’s leadership. The trio are then joined by two Exeter Uni’s players, who are also mentees on GSR & Vodafone’s EmpowHER programme, Eva Stirrett & Lilly Plowman, to hear all about how much they believe Poppy is the Messiah. (Their words, not ours.)

The girls have been back in England camp this week & the Red Roses’ Vice Captaincy has been bestowed upon our Meg, so Scaz, Mo & Elma hash through what it takes to be a leader in the Red Roses. True to form, Meg is open and honest about leadership, as well as the year she’s had - losing both her mum and dad in quick succession. She proudly tells the girls about the people they both were, as well as the struggles her mum had with alcoholism, in the hope that others affected by addiction don’t feel so alone. She’s one in a million, our Meg.

USA rugby is on the rise, so this week, Kate Zackary hosts Scaz & Elma at Trailfinders Women in Ealing. They might be the new kids on the block, but they’re taking the top teams in the league to task… not dissimilar to the USA on the international stage right now. They discuss Kate’s leadership of both sides, take a look around the place & learn all Whisky Sour Paws’ adventures.

Scaz’s Loughborough Lightning take on Mo’s Gloucester-Hartpury at Franklins Gardens this Sunday, so to preview the game & all the other big PWR news…cough cough, Ilona Maher 🐻… they’re joined by a pair of siblings who sit on either side of the rivalry; GH & England back row, Sarah Beckett & her older brother, Loughborough's Assistant coach, Charlie Beckett. Things get heated as the team discuss the upcoming game, but luckily the Becketts remembered their FFTJ, so things didn’t bubble over. & Scaz pays her debt to Elma after the Broses lost to the Boks, which it might be worth a trip to YouTube...

We hear all about Scaz & Alysha’s match up in New Zealand during the World Cup & how Mo thinks her medal box looks like Paddington Bears’ lunchbox. Also Elma won’t drop the killer whale story, so this week Shira’s left it in. You’re all welcome.

Elma, Scaz & Mo are joined by Aimee Barrett-Theron, the first professional female referee in South Africa who’s been in the middle for the Olympics and Rugby World Cups. Aimee exclusively reveals that she’s autistic & that her neurodivergence is her super power on the pitch! She talks openly about how difficult it is to be the first woman in such a male dominated space & gives us her best comebacks to players when they take things too far. Expect even more chino chat, somehow.

Elma, Scaz & Mo look at the World Cup draw, the autumn internationals, banning the word ladies from women’s sport & Scaz’s green chiiiiiinos… Mo also clears up the Ilona Maher rumours about Gloucester-Hartpury…

Back to back PWR winners & triple BUCS Super Rugby Champs all live under one roof, at Hartpury Uni in deepest darkest Gloucestershire. Our Mo, their Co-Captian has peeled back the door to her Circus Tent to show us what’s cooking at GH. Her teammates, Kelsey Jones 🏴 & Georgia Brock 🏴 join her, along with the Hartpury Uni girls they’ll be mentoring for the season, as part of ours & Vodafone’s EmpowHER programme. Then Mo brings in the big dogs in charge of developing the GH model; James Forrester, AKA Jango, Sean Lynn & Andrew Ford, to unpick how the pathway was forged & talk about what’s next for the girls in pink.

Scaz & Mo are back… fresh off the plane from Canada & they’ve brought two front row friends with them, in Hannah Botterman & Amy Cokayne. The final game against Canada is obviously discussed, but after nearly four months in eachothers company, it’s hardly surprising that Scaz’s chinos, her friendship with Gaby Logan & her use of the term oojamaflip get far more airtime. To say this episode is the roast of Emily Scarratt, is an understatement.

The PWR season is done & dusted. Mo and the Gloucester girls won, we had a party on the pitch, and now it’s time to wrap up our EmpowHER project, which aimed to connect uni rugby to the elite game. So on the show this week, Elma is joined by Mo & her mentee Em, as well as Scotland captain, Rachel Malcolm & her mentee Tash to discuss what your sock length & hair parting says about your age… and the difference our mentoring programme and Vodafone’s Player.Connect software has made on & off the pitch.
