No pain? I'm pretty sure that's not a good thing. There was this one researcher at least who studied a leper colony to figure out why their flesh would seemingly rot away each night. He observed what was happening to them overnight; turns out, rats would come into their houses at night and eat the skin and tissue off of their hands and feet. These lepers never knew though because they couldn't feel pain and wouldn't wake up. There have also been some people born without pain receptors. There was this one girl who, as a baby gouged her own eye out, bit off some of her fingers, and completely chewed up her tongue because she couldn't feel pain. Later in life she also went to school for an entire day, noticing that her back felt "funny." She had broken her back. and didn't notice. There's some pretty interesting research on people who can't feel pain, but I think the general conclusion is that pain is an essential part of interacting with our environments, and we're severely impaired with
