Welcome to the Healthy Christian Women Podcast! I'm your host, Dr. Melody. This weekly podcast has been created to empower, equip and enhance the lives of Christian women to easily begin living healthier in their mind, body and spirit. Why does our health matter? Does God really care if we're healthy or not? Does the Bible have anything to say about our physical health? Actually, Yes! The Bible is full of direction, instruction and even warnings about consequences of not caring for ourselves. It tells us that our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit and we are the stewards. If you were God, how would you expect your steward to maintain and care for one of your temples? The thing is, we live in fast-paced, fast-food, candy and soda driven society, so it can be hard to go against our culture. But as Obesity rises, and Heart Disease and Diabetes reach epidemic status, we MUST begin to take more responsibility for the care of ourselves. And in turn, lead our friends and family in doing the same. And I'll show you how. We want to be healthy, but there can be so much conflicting advice out there, that we often get stuck in 'analysis paralysis' and therefore don't do anything -- at least not consistently like we should. Well that ends TODAY! I will be showing you 5 easy daily steps you can focus on to create lasting healthy changes, and of course, weight loss will happen naturally as a result. Why more water? When I lose weight, aren't I losing 'water weight'? If you're doing it properly and healthily, actually, no. Adding more water to your daily routine is critical for not only weight loss, but so much more for a properly functioning body. I am not a fan of fads, gimmicks, pills, elixirs etc. when it comes to weight loss, are you? Those things are often unsustainable, expensive, and typically highly processed. Do you want to learn how to eat the good food God created, and use it to maximize your health and aid in weight loss? Me too! And that's what this episode is all about. We can easily over-complicate healthy cooking. So that's why in Part 3 of our 5 part series we break down your two main meals: lunch and dinner. We can make it very simple to get all the nutrients we need without a big fuss or hours in the kitchen. It's time to return to the way God intended it to be: eating real, whole foods from nature, lean protein and healthy fats the way He designed them. Our body is an efficiency machine, and if we treat it right, it will help us by using it's own fat stores for energy, which means more rapid weight loss! We live in a culture where more often than not, we are consuming more than we need, and the body stores the excess as fat. So how can we actually turn the tables and help our body give us all the energy we need and burn our own fat in the process? This is what is called ketosis. You may have heard of 'keto diets', which help your body do just that, but it's not necessarily a sustainable way of eating, long term. Instead, use these tips in Part 4 of our 5 part series and get your body into fat-burning mode (ketosis) by eating healthy, whole-food meals in a certain way that is sustainable and easy. ~Dr. Melody P.S. What roles do you play? What hats do you wear? Wife Mother Sister Friend Co-worker Teacher the list goes on... And what happens when something 'goes wrong' or there is a miscommunication, misperception or trauma? It can fully throw us into a tailspin emotionally, spiritually and physically. Finding our identity in the roles we play or different 'hats we wear' is a shaky place to find our true value and worth. But when we find our identity solely in Christ, being hidden and covered by Him, our value, worth, love and acceptance are never questioned. The strains and pressures of performance and duty are washed away. He is our sole provider and redeemer. Our solid rock whose love never fails and whose forgiveness and love are freely given. Turns out inviting God into your health journey can be a radical idea for some. I've heard things like: 'God doesn't need to be bothered with my health' or 'God has bigger things to deal with than my problems' or 'God doesn't care what my body looks like so why would He care about my health?' or  'God loves me no matter how big or small I am, so why does it matter?' But actually, if we do a little investigation, the Bible is full of evidence that our health does in fact matter to God, and more importantly than that, our decision to let God in on this journey is more for US than it is for Him. Our health journey opens our eyes to areas in our spiritual journey that need more of God. More intervention. More transformation. More freedom. More love, grace and mercy. We've been so programmed to follow society and fall into the ways of the world that we can begin believing that certain lies are actually truth. But as Christians, the Bible should be our Standard. God is supposed to be our ONLY one true god. But closer examination of our time, attention and habits reveals that food, tv, social media, other's opinions, work, family etc. have taken the number one place in our heart. Over our Creator and His plans, His Word, His ways. Let's identify and remove the falsehoods and return walking hand-in-hand with our Heavenly Father as He leads our life, our health, our time. One of the biggest things that can rob us our of future is the vice of Perfectionism. The voice that tells us 'it's not good enough' or 'you're not good enough' or 'you need to know everything before you move forward'. It's not that being knowledgeable is a bad thing, but when it gets to the point where you're stuck in analysis paralysis or overly consumed with something being perfect before you take the next step, you're literally delaying your future and all the good things God has waiting for you on the other side. I’m a male Christian and I stumbled across your podcast. You are a great leader, to be able to come out with such honesty. God has always used our weakness’s to become strong and to be strong leaders for others. You are just what women need. As a male I love listening also.
