Description

Welcome to the Holderness Family Podcast!

On Facebook and YouTube we are known as The Holderness Family. We make those silly songs and skits with our kids, but on this podcast, it's just us... the real us.

The non-Christmas-jammies-us, the why-can't-my-socks-be-on-the-kitchen-counter-us (Penn) the why-do-I-have-to-go-outside-and-talk-to-people-us (Kim).

On this podcast, we will share the real-life ups and downs of living together, working together, raising kids together, in what we hope is a funny and entertaining way.

We will be taking questions that we are likely unqualified to answer (absolutely unqualified to answer) but we are hoping that the show will make all of your beautiful families realize you're not alone.

You're not alone. We are all a hot mess... a HolderMess.

: Penn, Kim, Lola, and Penn Charles Holderness create original music, parodies, and Vlogs for YouTube and Facebook to poke fun of themselves and celebrate the absurdity in circumstances most families face in their day to day life. They published "Christmas Jammies" in December 2013 and life hasn't been the same. Since then, their popular parodies, "All About That Baste", "Baby Got Class," and original music "Snow Day" have received national news coverage. Penn, the Dad, took a chance and left his job as a news anchor to join his wife Kim, the Mom, at their video production and digital marketing company, Greenroom Communications, LLC. Lola and Penn Charles are always happy, respectful and eat all of their vegetables (that last sentence is a lie).  The Holderness Family Podcast is Produced and Engineered by Max Trujillo of Trujillo Media
Communication is a big part of Penn and I’s marriage. It’s how we handle parenting decisions that we disagree on. It’s how we decide how many times a week we have sex. It’s how we stay in a happy marriage. On this episode we answer all your questions!  Thank you for being here! Would you consider leaving a review? On this episode, we sit down with Donald Thompson and Jackie Ferguson of The Diversity Movement to have a conversation about race and how to be better allies in the wake of George Floyd. Donald Thompson is a friend and CEO of WalkWest. He serves on boards for several organizations in the fields of technology, marketing, sports and entertainment and is a mentor for Black Founders Google for Entrepreneurs Exchange. Jackie Ferguson is Director, Multicultural Programming at WalkWest and lead course writer for Diversity: Beyond the Checkbox. You can learn more at https://thediversitymovement.com/.  The Diversity Movement has put together lots of resources, books for children, our offers and upcoming events that promote allyship and make us all stronger together. You can also purchase their module on Unconscious Bias for only $19 with 100% of the proceeds will go to North Carolina organizations that support, educate and empower underserved and marginalized communities in our fight for equality. Learn more: https://thediversitymovement.com/what-can-i-do/ Here are some of the ways I discussed how I am starting to become a better ally on the podcast as well: 1) Broaden your social media feed to more creators of color. Some Instagram users that I follow are @rachel.cargle, @theconsciouskid, @AustinChanning, and @LatashaMorrison. 2) Google whether your local police department outfits all on-duty officers with body worn cameras and requires them to be turned on when answering a call. If they don’t, write to your city government and advocate for it. 3) Read, learn, and get involved. You can get involved with Be The Bridge, Showing Up for Racial Justice, or Center for Racial Justice. I'm reading White Fragility and I'm Still Here about racial inequality. There are also good books for kids to begin the conversation: https://bookriot.com/2018/09/19/childrens-books-about-diversity/amp/   -- Thank you for being here! Would you consider leaving a review? Disclaimer: While this is the most important podcast we’ve ever done, it is about preventing the sexual predation of minors online. We recommend listening first before deciding what you want to share with your kids. Penn and I talk to my friend Roo Powell about her experience as a 37-year-old posing as an 11-year-old girl on social media. Her work has been featured on GMA and Nightline. She is truly a superhero. Love Penn's compromise! It was creative & respectful of what Kim wanted. Another idea: Let Penn pick the images w/o obligation to place or glue them down. Big fan of The Holderness Family @KimDHolderness - love your vids & podcasts! <3

This was good! My husband and I have a code word for Mommy Daddy time, and yes we schedule it! For sure, kids are not the #1 priority in our marriage. But every marriage is different, so you gotta find what works for you 💗

How are there no comments? This is the best. I love you guys and have followed you for ages. I was nodding along the whole 38+ minutes. I couldn't agree with you all more. Marriage is hard but you have to make it work for however makes it work for you. Never stop making these. Bump it up to 8 Karen! ❤️

This was a super interesting podcast about analyzing dreams! My reoccurring dream is weird..... I dream that I'm going to the bathroom, usually in a public place, and the stall walls are so low that everyone can see me sitting on the toilet. This dream occurs sometimes every few months and sometimes it can be a few years before I dream it again. I think I first had it as a teenager; I'm in my 30's now. I've had the teeth falling out on and it always freaks me out! I dream about babies a lot too. Like last night, I dreamed that a friend I knew a long time ago was having a baby. I visited her and was about to tell her the my non-drugged delivery was excruciating but her dad cut me off and I changed my word to exhilarating. (what?!) Then I went to the nurses desk, picked up a tiny dark haired baby from off the counter and turned to walk to her room....and then I woke up. I never got to her room.

As a teacher, let them learn from their mistakes. Teach them to be their own advocate.

Just wanted to say how much I appreciate this episode and y'all's honesty about it. This was a real eye opener and helpful! One of my favorite speakers says "Facebook is nothing but comparing your B game with everyone else's highlight real". So true. Thanks Holderness fam! I love you guys!!

Just listened to the podcast about Ruby! I have been there!!!! Right where Kim is (Funny, my name is Kim, too!) Have had all the feelings and all of the comments too! I have been too ashamed to even talk about this for the last 10 years because of everyone else's obvious opinions. I was in the "You took this dog on, you are to love her until she dies, no matter what the situation." camp until this happened. We did EVERYTHING! I did all the behavior training, I drove over an hour and a half away 3 times a week for private training, just to "fix" the protective situation, I became a hermit to do everything to "save" her. But I finally had to give up, she was getting MORE protective the more aware I became, she felt she needed to protect MORE. We had a 6 foot fence she hadn't jumped over, simply because she hadn't tried it yet. We had little kids in our neighborhood that she reacted to every time they screamed. I couldn't not protect them, her and my family ALL...THE...TIME anymore. I didn't want her leaving our family to be a traumatic, hurried, hostile affair as she was dragged off to be put down for biting someone. By adopting her out to a specific, "RIGHT" atmosphere with the help of professionals, I was saving my family from trauma as much as possible, saving her life and saving my sanity. YOU GUYS ARE HEROES for talking about this!!!!! You are putting Ruby's love and health ahead of your own hurt. My Sam needed to be an only dog in a house without little kids. She got that and stopped being "on guard" all the time. She could FINALLY relax. We are happier, she is happier, her new mom is happier! THIS SUCKS! but it WILL PASS. Loving her enough to put her in a situation that she won't possibly hurt someone and then get put down, is LOVING HER! PENN AND KIM ARE MY HEROES!!!
