Sapna is a board certified Internal Medicine physician. She was born and raised in Kansas, and attended medical school at the University of Kansas [KU] School of Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at KU-Wichita as well. After experiencing burnout herself, and watching other physician colleagues burn out, it became a passion of hers to look into different aspects of burnout. Today I'm joined by Ray Cook, who as someone who struggled with weight management and health as a whole for much of his early life, Ray turned his challenges and lack of knowledge around exercise and nutrition into an opportunity to build a career around helping transform the lives of others with similar backgrounds. In 2021, John's life took an unexpected turn when he became paralyzed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a rare autoimmune disease that landed him in the ICU. With a lifestyle so heavily dependent on physical health and wellbeing, John needed to rely on his mental strength to overcome this disease.

Today I'm joined by Furkhan Dandia who is a therapist, author, speaker and coach. After going through adversity and working in the corporate world as an Engineer for many years, Furkhan decided to pivot and pursue a Master's in Psychology. Furkhan developed a newfound passion for making a difference in people’s lives and working with them to find their purpose.
Going through a divorce made Furkhan realize how much shame there is for men around failure. That further motivated him to help other men like himself. After seeing the life-changing benefits of therapy, Furkhan decided to become a therapist. In addition to becoming a therapist, Furkhan has a podcast: EZ Conversations, a men's group that he facilitates to help men embrace their vulnerabilities, and he also released a book, Pursuit Of Self-Love: 30 Uplifting Messages and Reflections.
When struggling with adversity, Furkhan wished he had someone to turn to. Someone whom he could speak with, someone who could help him navigate through things, or even provide him with a different perspective. While everyone struggles with adversity differently, adversity is relative, and we all need support.
Furkhan is passionate about working with people to address childhood incidents and trauma. He believes that childhood experiences shape our behaviors, patterns and beliefs, ultimately influencing our perspectives of the world, relationships and how we view ourselves. Often these behaviours, patterns and beliefs are manifested subconsciously, and we are unaware of our role in shaping our lives. The narrative then becomes that life is happening to us. Furkhan's objective is to help people become more aware of these subconscious actions and dive deeper into the source of these behaviours, patterns and beliefs. Furkhan believes we can all live purposefully and work toward our best selves once we have healed the past.

Today I'm joined by Benjy, who believes there is a fine line between emotional awareness and spiritual awakening, and that is where Benjy thrives as a mentor and teacher. Guiding people to emotional mastery, Benjy bridges the gaps between psychology, spirituality and philosophy. Those 3 realms are all intrinsically connected in Benjy’s completely unique - and yet intuitively and compellingly simple - approach to self love and emotional mastery. His overall approach is about “Feelings First”, referring to the notion that we can master our emotions directly, without the need for deep intellectual analysis, ultra-spiritual practices, or pharmaceutical medications. Today I'm joined by Casey, who is a certified holistic nutritionist who lives in San Francisco, CA. She runs her practice, Your Case for Wellness, where she offers private and group coaching services. After almost a decade of struggling with eating disorders and body image issues, she knew there must be a better way to approach health. This is what propelled her back to study nutrition. Casey focuses on working with women who are ready to stop the yo-yo struggle and finally make peace with food and their bodies. She helps women to learn to eat in a way that promotes overall health as well weight loss. She found that what was missing in the health coaching space were coaches and programs that emphasized the importance of mindset and holistic behaviors in tandem with food and exercise. She now coaches women all over the world on how they can truly feel their best from the inside out and stress less about food so they can live their lives to the fullest. Gabriel has been practising and teaching tai chi, qigong and meditation since 2003. Gabriel began his healthcare career as a paramedic, working in both field and hospital settings. Later he received his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Victoria followed by designation as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist. Today, Lori is joined by Rachel Lavin. Rachel is a Published author of The Doughnut Diaries, Professional Speaker, Body Love Coach, Certified Health Coach, Certified Personal Trainer. In 2000 Rachel started as an ACE certified group fitness instructor moving into big box and independent personal training roles from 2007 and beyond. She then became an ACE Health Coach in 2018. In 2020 Rachel wrote her first book "The Doughnut Diaries" about her own struggles with her weight and restrictive diets which lasted for over thirty years. At 40, Rachel got sick and tired of being sick and tired hit home and she made a decision to take her power back and heal from decades of negative thinking and self sabotage. Rachel began to do the work on my mind, body and soul. Now Rachel helps people who experience negative body image. By using what she now refers to as my three pillars of fitness. In this episode, we speak about those three pillars, body love, the importance of movement and self acceptance. This was a great conversation to understand how body positivity can impact your goals.

She’s fitness and nutrition coach since 2015. However, fitness/nutrition didn’t always come easy to her.After graduating college, where I was a collegiate swimmer, she experienced highs and lows with food. Today I'm joined by Dr. Marcella Raimondo PhD, MPH. Marcella is a passionate and spirited clinical trainer speaking from her heart on social justice and eating disorders since 1995. She is on the About-Face Board of Founders and a consultant. She was also on the Advisory Board for the Association of Size Health and Diversity (ASDAH), on the Advisory Board of Eating Disorder Recovery Support (EDRS) as Past President and served as Co-Chair of the Academy of Eating Disorders Diversity Equity and Inclusion committee. Marcella currently serves as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PSY # 27037) in Kaiser Permanente’s eating disorder clinic in Oakland and runs a private practice. Marcella herself recovered from anorexia nervosa over 20 years ago. Marcella trains in Kajukenbo at Hand to Hand Kajukenbo Self Defense Center in Oakland. Her eating disorder recovery and her martial arts training inspire her dedication to multicultural body nurturance and community celebration. We spoke about diet culture, weight loss myths and body liberation.
