The Homestead Kings

Set on the open-air balcony of the Knights of Columbus in downtown Savannah on a perfect August evening, this is Arthur's and my talk on Hospitality, Food, & Community at Theology on Tap Savannah. You'll hear the sounds of Liberty and Bull Street below us, as well as the coos and squeals of the little babies who are with their wonderful parents in the audience. Frugality and homesteading really go hand in hand. We talk through some of the places we've found on the homestead where being frugal was necessary and effective. Whether it be reusing a structure or thinking through a project when funds were tight, being creative and working hard can help you attain your goals even if you can't have the "dream" version of them. Full disclosure: We don't touch on animal feed in regards to being frugal because we bring in most of all of our animals' feed. P & I sit down to talk all about milking the goats. We talk through dehorning the kids, banding the buckling, how we go about milking, or rather how Arthur goes about milking, and how we handle the milk once it reaches the kitchen. Getting milk from our goats has been a two-year deal, so what's the verdict? Is goat's milk better or worse than cow's milk? This is by no means an exhaustive information session, but we enjoyed sitting down for a quick chat about our newest endeavor. We hope you enjoy the conversation too! We spent months last year planning our backyard garden. There were some homestead animal obstacles we had to overcome, but we finally refurbished our garden into a gorgeous, colorful space that we can all enjoy.
