Following a notorious case of election fraud in Bladen County, North Carolina, in 2018, the reporter Zoe Chace gets an invitation from Horace Munn, the leader of the Bladen County Improvement Association PAC, a Black political advocacy group whose name was dragged into the scandal. It always gets me how people can sit there and say "I've got evidence of this, but I can't tell you what it is or let you see it" and still expect you to trust them. Especially while insisting you can't trust anyone else. How special do these people think they are?
this was truly excellent reporting by Zoe Chase and Serial.
Let noone be surprised that this is how NC rural counties operate. while doing a get out the vote / registration drive in a rural county, I was followed by a police car every neighborhood I entered. one police car was at the entrance or exit every time. At dusk, my last knock was at the home of a Black resident who warned me that it wasn't safe for me after dark and for me to leave now. I did.
