The Interlude™️

The Interlude returns for season 2, their first full season, in the midst of COVID-19. Steve and Jesse discuss how they've adapted during quarantine, how they're listening to music differently, and the versus battles that have captivated music listeners in the times of social distancing.

For episode 5 of this season we’re talking about the XXL Freshman classes. From 2007 - 2011 we saw the likes of Boosie, Plies, Wale, B.o.B, J. Cole, Nipsey, Mac Miller, and Kendrick Lamar all grace the cover as XXL Freshman. Part 1 of episode 5 touches on the first four classes and who stands out from them today!

This week we review Mozzy’s latest album Beyond Bulletproof. We discuss the album and the rapper’s place in the rap game!

For episode 4, we sit down with up and coming producer, IMAX. In the interview, the Mizzou Alum and STL native talks producers, artists, the state of the music industry and more!

In this episode we pick up from our conversation in episode 2 and continue into modern day R&B. We dive into its evolution in the last decade, the different lanes of the genre, and which artists are leading the way.

This week we discuss Deante Hitchcock’s debut album, Better. Through track by track analysis, we pick out our 3 standout songs, along with grading the project.

In our second episode this season, following our Verzuz battle, we take on the debate of Frank Ocean v. Miguel! Through analyzing their catalogs and careers, we attempt to see if you can definitively determine the better artist.

Snow on Tha Bluff, Song 33, and activism. These topics lead the conversation in this episode of The Interlude where we talk about the relationship between music and activism, as well as cancel culture and the responsibilities of black artists.

This week we review Kehlani’s most recent album, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t.
