In this deeply vulnerable episode, I share one of the boldest actions I’ve taken so far - publishing an open letter to the medical profession, born from witnessing the impact of words and presence on those facing cancer. What began as support for a client who was devastated after an appointment with her oncologist quickly transformed into a fire within me and the call to write and record a message that honours, questions, and invites a new way forward in medicine and in healing. This letter is not only for doctors, but also for those living with cancer and other illnesses, and for the loved ones who walk beside them. Yesterday I shared on social media that over the next 30 days, I’ll be sharing stories of the people I’ve had the deep honour of walking beside. This is where this pull began. On Monday I parked my car at the gym on my way to Spin class.  As I walked, I was reflecting on the fact that often we risk it all (our identity and safety) in the process of our becoming.  It hit me emotionally and my eyes went teary.  I noticed this. Then later that day as I was writing my notes to self, that feeling came back and I began writing, person after person in the third person, starting with “There is nothing more I love than walking with people who”.  At the fourteenth person, the vision of this 30 days of honouring came and I said yes. Trigger Warning - Facing terminal illness with love, heart and so much generosity,  I not only have the great privilege of supporting Jannine through coaching, but she decided to speak with me here for the second time on this podcast to share her deeply personal decision to explore voluntary assisted dying (VAD).     Jannine is in the late stages of cancer and on this episode shares her personal journey and reasons for advocating for VAD. The conversation delves into the eligibility requirements, the multi-step process, and the emotional and psychological impacts of choosing VAD.
