A live jazz set from Aufsturz Klub in Berlin, Germany by GULF of Berlin on today’s episode of The Jazz Hole Live with Linus. GULF of Berlin’s Soundresearch Project focuses on improvised compositions and it consists of Gebhard Ullmann (tenor saxophone, bass clarinet), Gerhard Gschlössl (trombone, sousaphone), Johannes Fink (bass, cello), Jan Leipnitz (drums) and special guest Michael Haves (live electronics). All of the musicians come from different parts of Germany, bringing their various backgrounds and influences into this band. While their improvisations are free, all players think compositionally. The Jazz Hole Live with Linus features a live set by the NYC-based Hyuna Park Trio today, recorded at Birdland Theater, the new addition to the legendary Birdland Jazz Club. South Korean bandleader, composer and pianist Hyuna Park is joined by the Colorado-born bassist Myles Sloniker, the Austrian-born drummer Peter Traunmueller and on one tune by her husband, Swiss producer, composer and trombonist Amadis Dunkel. Today’s “The Jazz Hole Live” set comes from the Owl Music Parlor in Brooklyn. The group that performed there on June 16th was Curtis + Garabedian + Sperrazza, a Brooklyn-based trio that recently released their debut album “New Year” on Outside In Music. The trio consists of GRAMMY nominated alto saxophonist Caleb Wheeler Curtis, bassist Noah Garabedian and drummer Vinnie Sperrazza and they describe their sound as improvisations, compositions, sketches, inside jokes, aspirations, dreams, challenges, and possibilities. Together, they set out to challenge themselves and push past their natural inclinations in the hopes of creating something sublime.
