https://www.youtube.com/live/3cKjIaZys50?si=AqpCJMy6TWrfbcPe Adrian Vandenberg recently reflected on why his band never had the opportunity to build on the success of their debut album, acknowledging that his experience is far from unique in the music industry. Known for co-writing Whitesnake's Slip of the Tongue with David Coverdale and delivering the iconic solo on "Here I Go Again," Vandenberg’s contributions to rock history are undeniable. However, his work with his own band, Vandenberg, hints at unfulfilled potential for even greater success. Recorded at Jimmy Page’s Sol Studios in London and released in 1982, Vandenberg’s self-titled debut established the band as one of the most promising European hard rock acts of the era. The album’s success led to U.S. tours with Ozzy Osbourne and KISS. Despite their growing popularity in Europe, the band’s subsequent albums failed to make the same impact overseas. In a recent interview with Alma Hard, Adrian explained what went wrong: "It ultimately comes down to timing and promotion from the record company. It’s their job to make sure everyone knows about your new release. The issue between the first and second Vandenberg album was that the president of Atlantic Records, who had signed us and believed in my band, left the label. "At the same time, the president of ATCO Records, a division of Atlantic in the U.S., also left. When the second album came out, the people who had championed us were gone. As we say in Holland, we were left ‘between the quay and the ship.’"
https://youtube.com/live/4_iffBMGZ5s You wouldn’t believe Mico Klokoc Thompson’s story—it’s like something out of a rock and roll legend. This guy’s been hooked on electronics since he was just a little kid, probably around six. His grandfather used to tinker with tube TVs, radios, and ham radio setups, so there was always some cool gadget to mess with at his grandparents' house. Oh, and his grandfather also played a little guitar, which kind of planted the seed for Mico’s lifelong love of music and tone. By the time he was 12, Mico was already reaching out to big names in the industry. He wrote to Ken Fischer from Trainwreck Circuits and even the artist relations team at Kramer Guitars. And get this—Ken Fischer actually responded and told him to stay in touch. Talk about a promising start! Fast forward a few years, and by 17, he was on the road with Aerosmith, working behind the scenes while Guns N’ Roses was the opening act. Can you imagine being a teenager and getting that kind of backstage pass to rock history? From there, he jumped into the Hollywood music scene, fixing tube amps and working with local guitarists at Amp Crazy. It didn’t take long for Mico to start rubbing shoulders with the biggest names in the game. He worked with Eddie Van Halen, Ratt, Poison—you name it. And when he moved to Nashville, he didn’t slow down. Instead, he started working with country legends like Marty Stuart, Travis Tritt, and Merle Haggard. But Mico’s not just some behind-the-scenes tech guy. He’s been a key player at Trainwreck Amplifiers for years, partnered with One Control Effects and Amplifiers, and he even designs his own amps now. He’s all about restoring vintage gear and helping musicians perfect their tone. I mean, he’s worked with everyone from Ted Nugent to Pat Travers, and even up-and-comers like Benito Di Bartolie and Dante Bonasera. Mico’s the guy you call when you’re serious about tone. Whether it’s building a custom amp, restoring a classic, or just dialing in that perfect sound, he’s the one who makes it happen. He’s a legend in his own right. https://youtube.com/live/mzDNf5VLV9s Undone by the loss of his brother Eddie, Alex Van Halen looks back in a new memoir When guitarist Eddie Van Halen died of cancer in 2020, his older brother Alex was overwhelmed by grief. Only 20 months apart in age, they had grown up together as "a yin and yang ... the two halves of a whole," Alex says. Raised by a Dutch father and an Indonesian mother, the brothers immigrated to the U.S. from the Netherlands when Alex was 8 and Eddie was 6. In California, they learned to play music — mostly classical and military marches — but their focus switched to rock once they started listening to The Beatles and The Dave Clark Five. In 1974, they formed the band Van Halen, with vocalist David Lee Roth and bassist Michael Anthony. Initially, Alex was the guitarist in the family, but he discovered that he had "no connection with the instrument," he says. "I just wasn't feeling it." His brother's link to the guitar, on the other hand, felt like fate. "The fact was, when Ed played, he made that instrument sing. It was unbelievable. [I said,] 'Ed, you're playing guitar. I want drums.' " Known for their extravagant, high-energy performances, Van Halen would go on to produce 12 studio albums and singles that included "Runnin' with the Devil," "Hot for Teacher" and the 1983 anthem, “Jump." The band went through some famous lineup changes (mostly singers) through it's career, but Eddie and Alex are the only members of Van Halen who played on all of those albums. In the new memoir, Brothers, Alex looks back on his relationship with Eddie and the decades they spent playing music together. "We left a lot unfinished," he says. "Obviously, every time I hear some of our music, that puts me right back there."

https://youtube.com/live/r3pmuI2kPaI Featuring an exclusive, never-before-heard piece of music, the last written together by the legendary Van Halen brothers! In this intimate and open account—nothing like any rock-and-roll memoir you’ve ever read—Alex Van Halen shares his personal story of family, friendship, music and brotherly love in a remarkable tribute to his beloved brother and band mate. Told with acclaimed New Yorker writer Ariel Levy Brothers is seventy-year-old drummer Alex Van Halen’s love letter to his younger brother, Edward, (Maybe “Ed,” but never “Eddie”), written while still mourning his untimely death. In his rough yet sweet voice, Alex recounts the brothers’ childhood, first in the Netherlands and then in working class Pasadena, California, with an itinerant musician father and a very proper Indonesian-born mother—the kind of mom who admonished her boys to “always wear a suit” no matter how famous they became—a woman who was both proud and practical, nonchalant about taking a doggie bag from a star-studded dinner. He also shares tales of musical politics, infighting, and plenty of bad-boy behavior. But mostly his is a story of brotherhood, music, and enduring love. "I was with him from day one,” Alex writes. “We shared the experience of coming to this country and figuring out how to fit in. We shared a record player, an 800 square foot house, a mom and dad, and a work ethic. Later, we shared the back of a tour bus, alcoholism, the experience of becoming successful, of becoming fathers and uncles, and of spending more hours in the studio than I’ve spent doing anything else in this life. We shared a depth of understanding that most people can only hope to achieve in a lifetime." There has never been an accurate account of them or the band, and Alex wants to set the record straight on Edward’s life and death.
