04/30-Should institutions be forced to sell their rental properties to families?

Wall Street went on a home buying spree during the pandemic.  Democrats in the U.S. Senate and House have sponsored legislation that would force large institutional owners of single family homes to sell these houses to family buyers.  One lawmaker in Ohio has proposed heavy taxation on these buyers.  But did these institutions harm or help the housing market?  We’ll discuss it tonight.

Studies have revealed that there is a large portion of the population that is contributing to the housing shortage.  The group I am referring to are Baby Boomers.  According to Redfin, about 28% of all US homes that have three or more bedrooms are owned by this group…and they are not moving for various reasons.  We’ll discuss what this group means to the housing market currently and for years to come.
