50 - Dr. Richard Haier: The Neuroscience of Intelligence
There is almost nothing more important to understand about people than intelligence. It can be measured more accurately than anything else in the social sciences. It differs tremendously and importantly between individuals. It is the single most important determinant of life success. It's very existence, however, remains subject to substantive debate, most of it highly politicized. Dr. Richard Haier has recently written a major book on the topic, The Neuroscience of Intelligence (http://amzn.to/2em55A9), summarized in the following manner: "This book introduces new and provocative neuroscience research that advances our understanding of intelligence and the brain. Compelling evidence shows that genetics plays a more important role than environment as intelligence develops from childhood, and that intelligence test scores correspond strongly to specific features of the brain assessed with neuroimaging. In understandable language, Richard J. Haier explains cutting-edge techniques based on genetics, DNA, and imaging of brain connectivity and function. He dispels common misconceptions, such as the belief that IQ tests are biased or meaningless, and debunks simple interventions alleged to increase intelligence. " We recently spent an hour and a half talking about such things. 49 - Steven Pinker: Enlightenment Now
I spoke with Harvard's Dr. Steven Pinker about the immense improvements in human living conditions that are now happening with amazing speed almost everywhere in the world -- as detailed in his new book, Enlightenment Now! (https://amzn.to/2jDwv7D) -- a careful, clear-headed and data-driven defense of the rational/scientific worldview that helped make such improvement possible).Dr. Pinker grew up in Montreal and earned his BA from McGill and his PhD from Harvard. Currently Johnstone Professor of Psychology at Harvard, he has also taught at Stanford and MIT. He has won numerous prizes for his research, his teaching, and his nine books, including: The Language Instinct (https://amzn.to/2JXZcai), How the Mind Works (https://amzn.to/2KEh77f), The Blank Slate (https://amzn.to/2jzXsZO), The Better Angels of Our Nature (https://amzn.to/2rnkqHF), and The Sense of Style (https://amzn.to/2wf5WyI).He is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist, a Humanist of the Year, a recipient of nine honorary doctorates, and one of Foreign Policy’s “World’s Top 100 Public Intellectuals” and Time’s “100 Most Influential People in the World Today.” He is Chair of the Usage Panel of the American Heritage Dictionary, and writes frequently for The New York Times, The Guardian, and other publications.12 Rules for Life Tour: https://jordanbpeterson.com/events/My new book: 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos: jordanbpeterson.com/12-rules-for-life/Audiobook now available for Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief: jordanbpeterson.com/maps-of-meaning/Dr Jordan B Peterson Website: jordanbpeterson.com/Self Authoring Suite: selfauthoring.com/Understand Myself personality test: understandmyself.com/Podcast: jordanbpeterson.com/jordan-b-peterson-podcast/Reading List: jordanbpeterson.com/reading-list/great-books/Twitter: twitter.com/jordanbpetersonPatreon: www.patreon.com/jordanbpeterson

45 - Australia's John Anderson & Dr. Jordan B Peterson: In Conversation
I was in Australia in mid-March of 2018, speaking in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. While I was there, I had the privilege of speaking to former Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson (Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/johnandersonao/), who is described accurately on Wikipedia as "handsome, well-educated and well-spoken." Mr. Anderson introduced one of my Australian lectures. We also had the opportunity to talk together for a few hours, and to complete this interview. We discussed many things -- responsibility, freedom, meaning in life, the polarization of viewpoints in the West, the ideological use of language and identity politics. It seems to me that the sensible fiscal policies Mr. Anderson pursued during his governmental tenure in Australia constitute a model for good governance in the West.Mr. Anderson has started a conversation series, where he discusses important philosophical, political and cultural issues. It can be found at https://johnanderson.net.au/media/ and on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtnY... He can be followed on Twitter @JohnAndersonAOMy new book: 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos: https://jordanbpeterson.com/12-rules-for-life/Audiobook now available for Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief: https://jordanbpeterson.com/maps-of-meaning/Dr Jordan B Peterson Website: http://jordanbpeterson.com/ Self Authoring Suite: http://selfauthoring.com/ Understand Myself personality test: http://understandmyself.com/ Podcast: https://jordanbpeterson.com/jordan-b-peterson-podcast/ Reading List: https://jordanbpeterson.com/reading-list/great-books/Twitter: https://twitter.com/jordanbpeterson Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/jordanbpeterson

This was quite frustrating to listen to, Jordan almost didn't let her speak.

if every rebuttal you come up with has to do with race maybe you're thinking of race a little too much. your memorization skills might be great when it comes to citing people like Beyonce using her "beautiful woman privilege". LOL. it must be tough to be able to contemplate as many things as someone else who's not simultaneously contemplating how this conversation is racist.

When there is a guest in the podcast I think it would be better to let him do most of the talking and take a format more similar to an interview. If the interviewer is not focused on listening it will have difficulty to make relevant questions and also to keep a good flow in the conversation. This is something we can clearly notice on the last interview, Jordan Peterson is taking a lot of the time to talk and frequently cutting the guest.

Hardly anyone can debate Peterson. Self delusion is the primary trait of the dysfunctional left.

Log Splitta It's weird though. Obviously it seems in a lot of situations he is on another level intellectually compared to other people. But at the same time its like it's just two people thinking about things in different ways. Usually one person has a bias, and Jordan just agrues his point based on overwhelming evidence and experience. But do you think sometimes it comes back to that old "what's your truth" argument? (hoping to open this to discussion)

Log Splitta I agree. I hope he reads this advice and takes the weight off his shoulders. Others need to share the load

Very good. Thank you for compiling your lectures and life's work in a place that can be easily accessed and easily absorbed. The world needs a turn-around; not to regress backwards, but to pause and realize how we got here.

"Absolute necessity of fathers." This is just reverse postmodernism. As with most things, the truth is found somewhere in the middle, between absolutes and absolute nihilism

Steven Pinker: "I was worried this mig t be too obvious or platitudinous..." Jordan Peterson: [interrupts] "It's not!" In Peterson's head: "If it were, then my work would all be platitudinous obvious advice mixed with mystical non-sense." In Pinker's head: "How did this guy teach at Harvard?"
