The Kahani (Hindi word for Story) Project aims to bring together storytellers from across the world who want to set stories free. We believe that listening to stories is a fundamental right of every child and captured in digital audio format stories can be made more accessible and available to children of all age groups, nationalities and disabilities. Our website (www.thekahaniproject.org) features audio stories recorded by volunteers who have a passion for storytelling and a little time on their hand.

Holland is a country where much of the land lies below sea level. Only great walls called dikes keep the North Sea from rushing in and flooding the land. For centuries the people of Holland have worked to keep the walls strong so that their country will be safe and dry. Even the little children know the dikes must be watched every moment, and that a hole no larger than your finger can be a very dangerous thing.
This is a true story. It is truly moving. The bomb which fell on Hiroshima
caused tremendous havoc. Fifty years have passed but people are still
dying of the lethal radioactive waves. This story will jolt you - shake you.
Hopefully, after reading this story some people will withdraw from war
and instead work for peace and good of humankind.

During the last stage of World War II, Tokyo was often attacked
from the air. At the city zoo, the keepers, with tears in their eyes, had
to kill many of the animals for fear that they would run amuck in the
town if the zoo was bombed directly. Faithful Elephants describes how
three elephants died at the Ueno Zoo in Tokyo at that time.
During the last stage of World War II, Tokyo was often attacked
